Living Beyond Breast Cancer

Күн бұрын

Fatigue is a common side effect of metastatic breast cancer treatment. Four young women living with metastatic breast cancer discuss how fatigue impacts their lives and their strategies for managing it. Healthcare providers Don Dizon, MD, FACP, and Lori Ranallo, RN, MSN, APRN-BC, provide insight on why treatment causes fatigue and options for managing fatigue, including complementary therapies.

This is me right now. I can't sleep enough at night and nap on and off all day long. It doesn't matter how active I try to be. I'm overwhelmed by fatigue. It was much worse when I was taking Gabapentin for peripheral neuropathy related to IV Taxol. The pn is improved but still there, just barely bothers me. I am not taking Gabapentin but still wiped out and tired all the time. My labs and scans are all really good so my cancer doesn't seem to be advancing at least at this time. I think it's the meds I'm taking and some of the fatigue is from depression and boredom. Cancer truly sucks.

I'm referring not just to this video, had it been just this one I would've had any reaction. No, I mean commercials, articles in magazines, other KZfaq content, online material, etc. It just goes on and on. Yet I rarely see info or conversations directed at the 55+ age group.

Most breast cancer media, charities, groups, even the women featured in MBC med commercials are all old enough to have lived a full life wo the disease. Its almost exclusively directed at women who are 55+. By far! The thing is, if something is ab breast cancer with no further age level mentioned, it is always so obvious it wasnt even considered someone who would relat is under 55+. The thing is that the vast majority of the public thinks that only ppl 55+ get the disease. That's why younger women have had to make separate groups or talk specifically ab the challenges specific to young adults who are also typically premenopausal when diagnosed which leads to different medical and psychosocial needs than what has been focused on (and still is, bc the assumption is if you have MBC especially that you are older). Why is it so bad for younger women with MBC to finally get some representation and the chance to tell our stories? How strange and just plain sad that it makes you bitter and try to play victim bc there are a few videos and maybe 2 charities for younger women with MBC. Go to literally any hospital support group or Gilda's club meeting and you'll hear plenty of elderly women's stories right away. If I had the chance to live anywhere near as long as you, I would be so happy that the younger generation of women with this horrible disease (at any age) choose to stand up for themselves and share their stories. There are so many ppl who don't even know young women with breast cancer are dying from it still, so more work needs to be done

I don't get it. Supposedly older women develop breast cancer more often then younger women and yet almost everything is focused on and for young women. Why is this is? What is the reason for the lack of inclusion? Why aren't we invited too? I truly feel shunned!

+Hoji Scott I don't know too many 33 year old moms with terminal breast cancer such as myself. These videos help so much. I'm sure they have videos for older woman, heck even men. I'm sorry you feel shunned.

I'm 30 with metastatic breast cancer I was diagnosed at 29 with stage three but recently it spread.. breast cancer is uncommon in younger women you can't even get a mammogram under 30 . this is why everything is focused on younger women because most don't believe younger women can get breast cancer. I'm excited to spend my time making younger women aware..most people will not understand until they actually go through it
