Love these, keep ‘em coming. One thing I’ve noticed is that sometimes I pick up the guitar, and it’s just not there or you’re not feeling it for some reason. Then I’ll put on a new stepdad video, play along, and then 90 minutes later I’ve had an epic play session out of nowhere. I remember reading a Randy Rhoads article that talked about how on tour he’d find a guitar teacher at every stop and just take a lesson. He should have been the one giving lessons probably, but just the act of trying something different or new is a big part of how music works.

I tend to think of it like a health meter in a video game. It doesn't take much of a drop before I feel it's affecting my playing. If I feel even slightly off-whether it's a cold or a bad night's sleep-I can struggle with playing my best stuff and making it look easy. On days when I'm in a great mood and have loads of energy in reserve, I play effortlessly and might even have one of those rare "Troy Grady pop tart moments," thinking, "Wow, did I just play THAT?" I've noticed that lifting weights before I play can impact me slightly. But I'm 50 years old, and that may not be an issue for younger musicians. But yes, I think it's perfectly normal to have "off" days, which is really a bummer when you really want to play.

I don't know if'n I can do it; .. Ya know? Break from tradition and all? With the Fast, Clean & Smart stuff? Besides it's the most exciting time of day here. I tried this lesson but can’t really figure out how to navigate these phrases around my upstroke pick escape. How does that work for someone who is only either a DSX or USX player? And yes, I’m a student of Troy’s Cracking the Code lessons . Honestly I’m thinking this alternate picking phrase only works for people who have established a “double escape”, or two way pick slant technique.
