This was one of the more unusual railways visited during my tour of Slovakia, a standard gauge rack section on the national railway system. Our delightful train was made up of a fascinating Class 40 rack locomotive No.4296 built by MAV and three beautifully restored carriages. This difficult section of the Brezno and Tisovec railway over Zbojská Sadle required several tunnels, a number of lofty viaducts and the use of a rack rail on the steepest sections. For safety reasons the locomotive is marshalled at the rear of the train so that it pushes it up the steep inclines, much of this video was taken from the veranda of the front carriage giving excellent views of the line ahead. Truly beautiful Tim...many thanks. What superb scenery and it’s the very first standard gauge rack railway I’ve seen in action. Now I’m going to look it up on Google Earth. Keep up the excellent work please! Rob.

Hi Rob, I really appreciate your comment, this is the first and only standard gauge Rack railway I've seen, I understand there are one or two more, but I'm not sure if any are operated with steam. This tour of Slovakia turned up some real gems, most of which are still to come. Tim.

Hello Tim! Really wonderful video recordings. I did not know that there is a rack railway in standard gauge. You never learn in life. In Austria we have three rack railways. Everything meter gauge. A wonderful country, Slovakia. Greetings from Hans from the Mühlviertel. 👍🚂

Hello Johann, I was not aware of many standard gauge rack railways, although Pikes Peak Gog in Colorado is standard Gauge. I have also been informed there is one in the Czech Republic. I hope to join a rail-tour to Austria next year. Greeting from the UK. Tim.

Thanks Tim, a first class journey, though I admit to watching it 2X as I only had 25 minutes available to watch it. That train is a Slow Mover. Say, that is a pretty snazzy red diesel there at the end, pushing coffee cups for the tourists.

That 2 X button can be very useful, especially with a train travelling at the speed of this one. The diesel did look smart, I think the coffee cups contained water to put out any fires caused by the steam engine.

This ride was out of the ordinary, standing on the balcony at the front was an unusual experience, especially on the high viaducts.

Hi Chuck, this was an unusual railway, the locomotive looked wonderful, add to that the attractive carriages and the pretty scenery and you've got a first class train ride. We are still experiencing good weather here, although the temperature is a few degrees lower. The little booklet has some interesting information in it. To my misfortune, such early signs of autumn cyclones are again felt for us.This are since fall of 2016, when solar activity has almost completely ceased, these adversities have come to us... 😢 They stole the heat, bastards they at top! Good morning, Tim! Hehehe, good words! :-) Sure, when I was be small boy, my grandmother like repeats me this local proverb: 'Eat pies with mushrooms and keep your mouth shut'. Because since my childhood, I have not climbs in my pocket for a word, hahaha! It was being in reign of the red dragon... but I survived. Your Grandmother sounds as though she was a wise lady. I'm am lucky not to have experienced the era of the red dragon. I can tell you we have a sunny autumn day here with a bit of a nip in the air, summer is almost over and the tree are starting to display their autumn colours. I guess the mountains around you will soon be snow capped. Enjoy your day :-)

Boy oh boy she's a slow old train, this one, ay! I think I saw a snail zip past her a little while ago. It was pretending to be a racer and had an 'S' painted on the shell. I saw it and said: "Gee, look at that S-car go!" LOL(yeah, I know, it's and old joke..... Hmmmmm!)

Mali sme jedlo v reštaurácii v blízkosti Zbojská stanice. Bolo to veľmi chutné.

@@Timsvideochannel1 ak ste jedli nedaľeko stanice Zbojská, tak to bol určite wooden chalet , ktorú vidno aj z vláčika a je tam vždy veľa ludí aj turistov, sú tam prekrásne turistické trasy a majú tam výborné bryndzové halušky, Slovak specialty, pravá ovčia bryndza is fantastic

Zbojská bol obľúbený u chodcov, keď sme navštívili, jedlo v reštaurácii bola tradičná a veľmi chutné.

Time is relative, but in this case it was nice to have enough time to enjoy the wonderful scenery.
