Using the best available photographs, original graphics and archive film, the producers follow the events of the Titanic's tragic maiden voyage. This is complemented by contemporary footage in New York, London and Southampton (the ship set sail on April 10th, 1912 from Southampton). Author Walter Lord (A Night to Remember) rekindled interest in the 'forgotten' Titanic after the Second World War. He and Bill McQuitty who was later to produce the outstanding British Titanic film - A Night to Remember, add their own comments and help us to understand why this was no ordinary shipwreck - it was an "end of an era!"
The Titanic was a British passenger liner that sank in the North Atlantic Ocean on April 15, 1912, after colliding with an iceberg during her maiden voyage from Southampton, England to New Your City. There were 1,514 people that drowned in one of the deadliest peacetime maritime disasters in history. "The Unsinkable Titanic" sunk and today the story lives on in fans of those who love this great ship and it's history.
I have Titanic, Olympic, Queen Mary, Ocean Liner, and other interesting Historical documentaries. It is a passion of mine to share the amazing Titanic story for the generations to come. Thank you watching my films and please Subscribe, Like, and Comment. Blessings, Mark.

I must have had a past life on the Titanic. The only explanation for my obsession. 😊

@secret... When I was thirteen I had a vivid, weird, frightening dream about the ship. The next day, I checked out the book "A Night to Remember", from the school library. Thus my obsession began. The game Canasta was in my dream...it was a really strange dream...I ask my Grandma what it was. She told me it was an archaic card game that no played anymore. An odd start to my research. Cheers!👁👁👁

Here's why the Titanic's story will never die: (1) she was the world's biggest movable man-made object of her day, (2) she excelled in luxury, (3) she was on her maiden voyage (of all voyages), (4) there were many celebrities of the day on board, (5) there was already a lot of talk about all her features before she was ever launched (including the whole "unsinkability" talk), and (6) the Titanic is the first ship in living memory to be sunk by an iceberg. The Titanic shall always be in our minds despite herself; unlike the ship itself, the story remains unsinkable

7:58 The soundtrack composer of that film, William Alwyn, was alive only for a few more days after Robert Ballard's expedition found the wreck. He died ten days later, on September 11 1985 .

10:17 The Titanic was launched on May 31st 1911 and the last survivor, Eliza Gladys "Millvina" Dean, died in 2009, also on May 31st. That's quite the eerie coincidence. Another such is that collided with the New York on her way to New York .

14:13 One thing Ismay did on the Carpathia was contact the White Star offices in NY and ask them to hold this other ship, the Cedric, until he and the crew came, so they could go back home to England as soon as possible. He signed his message "Yamsi": his last spelled backwards. The actual reason for that message was to evade American jurisdiction before any investigation could be started but the American warship Chester intercepted his message and relayed it to Congress where a subcommittee to look into that was quickly formed. Its members, headed by Sen. William Alden Smith, promptly went to New York where they strode aboard the Carpathia and succeeded at subpoenaing Ismay. He was to appear in court, not within a few days, let alone a full week: the following day. That was Sen Smith's subcommittee's way of serving swift justice which is what America likes to do so much .

30:05 Someone (I forget who now) once said the Titanic's restaurants were complete with "authentic French waiters." They were actually Italian!

14:13 A quite interesting story I've heard about Ismay is that around the time "A Night to Remember" was published in November 1955 Walter Lord got a letter from England about the "remarkable finish" at the 1913 Derby in Epsom Downs. Craganour, the favourite, crossed the line first and was escorted to the winners' circle. Then, without a protest from anyone, it was disqualified and the race was awarded to second-place Aboyeur. Craganour, Lord's correspondent said, was owned by Bruce Ismay, and I guess it doesn't need saying that after what happened the year before the establishment would never let an Ismay-owned horse win the hallowed Derby. Walter Lord then went to check the story. Everything turned out to be accurate except for one important detail. Joseph Bruce Ismay didn't own Craganour. His brother, Charles Bower Ismay, did. Still, Craganour remained disqualified. The reason? Craganour's original jockey had been replaced by an American one, Johnny Reiff. I don't know why that was but the move was immensely unpopular, and the discussions the judges are (apparently) supposed to conduct at the end of the race presented them with the golden opportunity to discredit Reiff. Walter Lord, though, said he still got letters afterwards still linking Bruce Ismay and Craganour together

4:26 The Gigantic was eventually named Britannic probably because Gigantic is too plain or because they were already building bigger ships in Germany so that the name Gigantic no longer made sense

10:05 The Olympic's sea trials (2 days) and the Titanic's (less than a full day) seem very perfunctory when compared to those of the SS United States which lasted a good six weeks.

Them survivors.. my god i was just on a gigantic ship! And now it's gone!! It would be unbelievable! And all them people freezing and drowning soon after.. I'm not sure which is worse? The survivors guilt would be tremendous also. Say if you lost your husband or kids! Just a horrible disaster. But she's not alone down there now is she! 🤦
