Never seen solid dinitrogen trioxide before. Beautiful deep blue. Interesting how NO and NO2, red gases, come off the blue compound.

Red tile had a bad day there, did not seem to like that reaction between hydrazine perchlorate and titanium, but I did! That was insane!

The smoke rings are small phosphide vortices created because reaction goes from center of contact outwards ad is fast but creates small amount of gases (only vaporized phosphides). Because of that the movement of vapors is laminar and therefore undisrupted.

Some of the titanium phosphides probably oxidized to titanium phosphates in the air, and some of the titanium and phosphorus may have separately reacted with the air to make TiO2, P4O10, and H3PO4 (last one involving the water in the air).

I've been trying to find an alternative to etch titanium for anodizing other than hf there is a product called multi-etch I wish I could figure out what it's ingredients are I've heard it's ammonium-sulfate and sodium-bi-fluoride but I'm not 100%

Is it necessary to heat the titanium up for the reactions, specially with bromium and iodide?

Ti is very-very (like alkali metals) active when heated! For reaction with bromine use maximum dry reagents, but for reaction Al + Br2 moisture speeds up the reaction.

do you make the hydrazine perchlorate yourself by mixing perchloric acid and hydrazine or can you buy it just like that? 0.o are they any more hydrazine perchlorate reactions you can show us? :D

Yep, perchloric acid, hydrazine hydrate and diluted with isopropyl alcohol. I hope to show N2H4 anhydrous soon (this year:D)

Aluminum and iodine: one of the few istances where you have to add water to set things on fire. periodicvideos made a video on that, if i remember right it's in their iodine video on element series

This is why chromoly is preferred. Hydrochloric acid reacts with Ti just like 7000 series aluminum alloy.

Yes, Al + Br2 is very popular reaction, but not Ti+Br2 :)

'Course I could use nontransparent PTFE chemical equipment but the reaction wouldn't have been visual then. Also, it takes a lot of time for hydrofluoric acid to damage the glass in any imaginable way.
