There are times when you NEED to get a fire started. A true lighter with a flame can be invaluable. Enter the titanLIGHT by Exotac. A lighter made in the USA of machined aluminum with two O-Ring seals, making it waterproof to 1 meter. The seals also ensure that the fuel doesn't evaporate out when not in use.

Nice setup. I like multiple redundancy: survival matches, lighter, ferrorod, and wetfire fuel cubes... But this works as well! Key is probably to just make sure you've thought about it and have something... Keep up the good work!

Very similar design to TiSurvival's Exo Tube lighters (interesting that the name is similar). Mine was pretty pricey, but one of a kind at the time. But the end-user serviceability is well worth it, and it's super durable. I think it would withstand quite a bit of punishment.

Bought one in orange, I would suggest to buy beeswax candletin also, it's a surefire way to get a fire started,

Great review. It’s good to have someone testing high end stuff like this and I appreciate you distinguishing between “playing frontiersman in the woods.” vs common sense preparations. If I spent much time above 8000’ I might have to consider this, but Amazon has FIFTY mini Bic lighters for $38 and this for $47. I would consider it at $15 and would definitely buy one if it was under $10. Being prepared doesn’t have to mean being broke.

I'm with you, there are solutions at every price point. But Bic lighters aren't machined from aluminum in the US either... :)

Couldn't agree more on the comment that Zippos are largely nostalgia factor. I have one that sits in a drawer and makes a great paperweight. I'll put Ka-Bar USMC knives in the same category. ;-) Exotac makes excellent products - I've been using their ferro rods, firesleeves and Matchcaps for years, and recently got a ripSpool, which is a super handy piece of kit. Agreed also on the realistic usefulness of ferro rods - fun to play around with, maybe have as a backup, but not what I want to be relying on in a real emergency. I've been curious about the Titanlight for some time now, so thanks for the review. Exotac quality combined with a sealed, refillable lighter that doesn't evaporate fluid seems like a no-brainer.

I feel like having the ferro rod as a back up to your main is not a bad idea, but never your only.

I may have to look into this Exotac. I mean, after our talk, I realized that I always carry a flashlight, but never a lighter. As a sort of EDC gear/gear in general whore, I'm always looking for something neat, yet functional that can fit in with the rest of the stuff I carry.

I used my zippo when it was too cold for a butane lighter, it was great until I dropped it in the snow and got it wet

i have an old ronson. works like a zippo but has a clear body and a button to release the fluid to the wick area so it is sealed. not near as sturdy as the ex so i might need one of those.

Not if you read and follow directions. But, there is no law that says you can't turn it upside down, open, wipe hands and lighter off, a and strike, put lid back on after putting the fuel back in. ..its common sense and lighter fluid is $70 a gallon. So the lighter will pay for itself.way in advance of that😂
