A detail I didn't mention: Kubo's first editor who found him was Takanori Asada, who was also Eiichiro Oda's editor at the same time as Kubo's. This must have also fuelled the rivalry between the two of them! Kubo is the very best. One key theme about Bleach that I like is that there is no true good apart from Ichigo and his human friends. Everyone else be they individuals or factions are a very dark shade of gray if not outright malicious. Be it Yhwach blasting the heads off his subordinates or the likeable Kisuke and Yoruichi having once been killers for the paranoid, power loving nobility no one's hands are clean.

It's a bit embarrassing to admit, but one of the reasons I currently want to become an author is due to the several Bleach fan fictions I would right throughout high school. People are kind of extreme, they either elevate things to incredible highs or want to dig its grave... Bleach was Cool for a while, and the first arc was cool, but after that he got lost in characters designs and arcs he didn't know how to work with it, which is often the case with these stories, because there is a lot of pressure to keep the stuff in High demand, specially when the Anime success is a lot of pressure... The way the story pretty much convolutes into itself at the later stages , like when you have too many cables to hold, shows it all. The first 50% of Bleach had lot of potential.

I only got into Bleach around over a year ago, but the time I spent reading and watching it, has been one of the best animanga experiences I've had. The sheer amount of passion and effort, even while Kubo was in such a weak state, is so inspiring to me. Ichigo quickly became one of my favorite characters, not just in the manga, but within Shonen as a whole. His role and personality being very similar to Spider-Man also greatly helped because I was already a fan of Spider-Man since I was young. So seeing another character embody those traits, and use them in a unique and exciting way was amazing to see. Hearing the story about the terminally ill kid and his letter to Kubo brought a tear to my eye. This series means a lot to people, and I'm glad Kubo can get the recognition he deserves. I cannot wait for whatever Tite Kubo brings us next, I'm sure it will be incredible.

In my opinion, among the Big 3 (and most other Shonen of the time) Bleach deals in the most interesting concepts and philosophies BY FAR. If it weren't for Kubo's insane work load while having to deal with constant health issues, Bleach would be far more recognized as one of the best fictional stories ever written. I already think it is, but a lot if the issues it suffers from wouldn't exist if Kubo wasn't experiencing what he was. Kubo deserves all the love and appreciation he's started to regain from fans. It's upsetting that he was subject to so much scrutiny once Bleach had come to an end. Also, that story about the sick boy hit really hard. Rest In Peace.

Bro honesty, the level of depth you went with this video is amazing. Always loved bleach, and to see how much Kubo put in to it, shows how much compassionate he has. Makes me appreciate the series even more. Good work man 👍

I knew nothing about anime before Bleach. I did not start when the anime started, but after that first episode, I was hooked. I soaked it up like a sponge. I eventually caught up and watched it weekly. I loved it. The whole concept and almost world building Kubo was able to do. When I got the end of the anime, I was sad that there would be no more bleach. Years past and I looked everyday to see if there was any news. The I heard about the 1,000 blood war and my heart started to beat so fast because I was so excited. The when that one shot came out "No Breathes from Hell", and found out that was the beginning of a new full arc, I was so happy. I am so excited to see this arc on the screen and see what comes next. I would say Bleach is one of the best shows I have watched. Not just Manga, but shows over all. Two other Anime come close, but bleach is No 1 for me.

I've been watching Bleach literally half of my life, I started at 17 during SS arc (episode 41) and started to read the manga back at the start of the Arrancar arc. Flash forward I just purchased the BD of TYBW and I will watch it with my soon to be 9 y/o kid, we already watched the OG anime (without fillers), so Winter vacation here is going to be really special for me. Maybe I will never meet Kubo during my lifetime, but I'll have nothing but gratitude for him, he has no idea how much Bleach changed my life for good and I hope he continues to deliver on his own terms, I really appreciate what Tagushi has done for him during TYBW, the Anime is in good hands with him. God bless the Bleach community

Bleach has always resonated with me, when I started getting into anime in 2014 bleach and soul eater were my first animes. You could def tell that kubo was putting his heart into the story from the jump, I’m glad he kept going and we will stay supporting!

I am far from being an artist half as talented as Kubo, but I can really relate to how critical he was toward his own works. Knowing even someone like Kubo had a phase like that kinda makes me feel better about my own situation. I am pretty ashamed of my own arts and just want to improve faster. Always been a huge fan of Kubo's art and I can only hope to be as good as him one day.

There is very much demand to see you cover the other manga penned by Kubo. Especially the lesser known because I think at this point Zombiepowder is becoming more and more known in the fanbase from it characters popping up in the Bleach Manganas wholly new people. But as expected, another outstanding job and video idea! Also, how much work went into doing this, my goodness!

Bleach means so much to me, more than I could explain in a KZfaq comment. So, I cannot even try to express how grateful I am to Kubo for sharing the story and art of Bleach with the world (and my best friend for sharing it with me.) I'm literally on my knees pleading for the hell arc to be continued, since I'm like... a decade or so late to the Bleach bandwagon, it would make me so happy to be able to read Bleach alongside the community as an actively updating manga. Hopefully when the TYBW production finishes up (HYPED FOR COURS 3 AND 4!), Kubo will find it within himself to continue drawing Bleach. Until then, I'll continue watching every video essay I can possibly get my hands on from KZfaq :3

The thing I like the most about Kubo, besides Bleach, is his art prowess. To me, each of his drawings are masterpieces. He even designed characters with a lot of thinking into it.

When I started the manga back in 2021, I knew that this series was going to be special, Bleach had pulled me out of a depressive slump due to 2020 being the lowest point of my life, I lost a lot of passion for what I thought was going to lead me to a career in the video games industry (heh... now I'm jaded as fuck) so I decided to jump back into hobbies that I neglected for a good portion of my college life, one being Manga, and I thought I'd finally give The Big 3 a shot after being such cultural impacts of my generation but never really diving into them as much as I did Dragon Ball or Evangelion Bleach was the series that had such a prominent change in my life that to this day, I've started taking up Japanese language studies, I've even started doing my very own manga translations and clean-ups (WIP) and it taught me so much about thematic resonance and storytelling that I had never even considered before

This an excellent review and having the insight about the life of a mangaka, thanks to Bakuman, makes me appreciate it even more. It was also touching to hear other mangaka's inspiring stories on how Bleach changed their lives. That is the ultimate respect that this severely underrated manga/anime truly deserves.

can't wait to watch it all later! One thing to add (as i expect saint seiya to not be mentioned pass the intro), is how if you know both series you can. find a lot of saint seiya in bleach. from how soul society is composed to the arc structure of soul sociery itself coupled with a couple of character concepts .. although i admit sometimes it could just as easily be possible that both series are drawing from an earlier well im not familiar with. im just going by knowing both titles and knowing kubo read saint seiya as a kid. anyway great job regardless
