you can freely give and that's good, but your local pastor might not be getting his 10% tithe now to use for the operation of the ministry that God has put him in charge of. I feel badly for your pastor. He probably has a family who needs insurance, shelter and food. There are other bills in the church like electric bills, heating, ministries he supports, missionaries etc.) . The tithe belongs to the local church. Offerings ( different from tithe in that it is money given over and above the tithe) can go to any Trinitarian ministry that is Spirit-led , but they may also go to the local church if it is Trinitarian, Spirit-led, born again and teaching/preaching the true gospel.

@@nasssings4christ159 ,the pastor of my church still believes in tithing and he knows we are no longer under the law. How do you go to seminary school and not know that. He is angry with me and I am a new member because the first check that I wrote was based on Tithing or Law even though my heart knew better. They cut me off from receiving the Sunday school book, they get angry when I speak during bible study and one of the ministers basically preached at me. He said , some people talk because they want people to think they know more than what they really know. Sometimes you need to just be quiet and pay your tithes. So I no longer speak during bible study and I am not tithing. I will start back giving from my heart but I will not be bullied in church. How do you harrass a widow for money. I also think I was recruited because they think I have money and that they could pull me in and get what I have. The first thing I heard was, we need to get this van paid off and you are supposed to pay your tithes from the gross , not the net. My first thought was well, if we are going to go back to the law I need to bring a bull to church for sacrifice. The other thing that just did something to me was the pastor telling me that he does not sin. I lost my zeal after he said that. I said, I thought we all sinned and told me that I was projecting. I still feel that he is harboring some ill feelings against me for not being gullible. I will say that the mistake I made was not praying before I joined that church. I did however ask God to show me sooner than later and that is when different things began to happen that allowed me to see what I am dealing with. I am a virtual member which means I participate by zoom or youtube. Anyway, I pray that God will open another door for me to find the right church.

The other thing is that both Abraham and Jacob demonstrated the tithe before the Mosaic ( Levitical law) was put into existence. They gave to Melchizedek, a High Priest who was not a Levite. Jesus is a High Priest after the order of Melchizadek ( Hebrews, chapters 5, 6 and 7). Jesus is now our High Priest and His storehouse is the local church where He has placed HIs appointed leaders over Trinitarian, Spirit-led churches. Even Hebrews 7:9,10 says: And as I may so say, Levi ( who was the first in line of the Mosaic Levitical Priests) , who receiveth tithes, payed ( paid) tithes in Abraham. 10 For he ( Levi) was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchizedek him. Melchizedek was the High Priest who received tithes before the Levitical Priesthood started under the law ( started with Levi, hence the name Levites). Melchizedek was a foreshadowing of Jesus, our current High Priest. Jesus is on the order of Melchizedek. The tithe was demonstrated before the law, through Abraham, Jacob and Hebrews 7:9,10 says that even Levi was considered to have tithed in Abraham ( Levi's father).

Troy, your story is not the first time I've heard one like it. To be clear, I believe regular attenders of a local church body should give not only of their time, abilities, and spiritual gifts, but also of their finances, to that local assembly. After all, you take from and benefit from that assembly, and there is a financial cost to having a building, power, resources, and trained personal to serve you and your family. That requires the financial support of all those who take from and benefit from those resources. However, to mandate a specific amount or percentage that attenders are required to give, that is not biblical. I pray the Lord will lead you by His Word, and yes, that may mean some serious changes.
