Mr Siva Kumar: You could do yourself by reading the book also. You need not call Sastri or Iyer. You know what, with whole heart if you offer fruits also its more than enough. But that should be the true feeling, thinking and thanking the parents who brought to this world. If they were good or bad to you vice versa, the truth is through them you born in this earth. You may accept or reject this point, but this is up to you. We people do not bring caste or religion to our useless topics. We should be good and knowledgeable enough to talk these big topics.

@@padhoo1973 rituals is not mentioned here. rituals means you are saying that you remember them it might be any language. that day itself you are remembering and thank them. by doing this every year they are deep in your memory. without repetition, nothing stays in your memory. hope you agree on that point.

Yes. Vaideega brahmins are the beneficiaries. They charge exorbitantly. Two thousand rupees minimum for twenty minutes work. Better to feed or do some help to poor people on this day.

On the other side there is no ...option... and the individual has to pay Dakshina to the priest from birth to death continuously. It is one-tenth of the individual's income to be given as a ...share... to the priest. Pangu thanthai. Refusal to pay will lead to refusal to bury in their yard. Naming ceremony, marriage, etc will not be performed. A lot of benefits (financial, employment, contacts etc) will not be available. It is like a Multi Level Marketing company there. I understand the explanation but one thing that I don’t understand is: why should only pitrukkal who have male descendants be given tharpanam, dhevasam, etc? What happens to those who don’t have sons? Who does monthly tharpanam for their aathma?

Who said so.. Anybody can give. Those days the probability of having both male and female children was more. Even otherwise in joint family brothers son used to give for their uncles without issues. They ask 3 generations names during thithis.. So most of the ancestors are covered

If the father is dead but mother is alive, the son does monthly amavasai tharpanam to the dad. If mother is dead but father is alive, then monthly tharpanam is not required. Only yearly dhevasam is done. For families with no male kids, nothing is done monthly.

We believe scientists because they put ideas with logic and proof. Whereas, when it comes to religion, ideas are presented as dogma. There is no proof or logic. We are told to believe things because our previous generations believed. No other reason. Cho was a very intelligent man, no doubt. But difficult to agree with him in these areas.

Your view is materialistic. This is not to be viewed as trade. The first beneficiary is our ancestors. Vaitheekas are make our ancestors to get benefit from the ritual, hence,in turn we are offering vaitheekas with money and materials. In other words you can treat it as service charge for making yoyr ancestors happy.

Sesame seeds cost ₹10. Can do tharppanam easily even money is a constraint. Pindam won't cost that much, too. Explain to the priest, he will guide how to do it within the available amount

You guys will never learn… I think is your upbringing that has filled garbage in your mind… Brahmins especially Tamil Brahmins are shooed away even if they have merit, they are forced to seek education and respect elsewhere… but they still achieve and reach great heights.
