Sting is the quintessential “icon”. Since I was a 90’s kid watching WCW, he was always my favorite. Even after NJPW, WWE, ROH, TNA, all of it, Sting remained my favorite. He’s always done it the right way and cares about us as fans.

I met Sting at a Big Time Wrestling event a few years back. It was only for a couple of minutes but I felt like a kid again and he was so chill. I was nervous so I went in for a quick handshake and kinda latched onto his hand and he was basically like hey let's try that again I didn't get a good enogh handshake in. Like he really wanted to shake my hand properly man to man. I had thanked him for the years he entertained me and everyone else and he was nothing but smiles and was humble. Very respectful and a nice guy. I said it once and I'll say it again. I'm so happy and glad one of my childhood heros turned out to be an actual nice person. I hope his run in AEW is a good one and he can officially retire on a good note and in good health. Sting was, still is and will always be my all time favorite wrestler.

WWE should have had Sting win his match against HHH. Sting was every bit the star HHH was if not more. If WWE had any respect for the business they would have let him win his last match. He got disrespected going to WWE. I know most of the people in that stadium wanted him to win.

Sting is in the same category as The Undertaker, no one has a bad word to say about how they carried themselves backstage or in the ring. Both treating everyone equal. We've heard for years how when Undertaker would arrive at shows he would shake everyone's hand backstage and treat everyone the same, regardless if they were wrestling the nights opening dark match, or the main event. Sting is the same, both are absolute icons in a very cut throat business.

Tracy Smothers Sting story: 1986 3:18 "they hurt guys in the territory" 3:22 "I worked with them in Tennessee before that a lot I had no problems I don't know.." 6:25 "this is what I heard" 6:28 "he said to Sting I heard you fu*ked around with my girl.." 6:36 "I think maybe Slater was abusive to her I don't know" 6:57 "I heard Slater just nailed him, Sting never saw it coming" Well, sounds to me that Tracy Smothers heard more than he can confirm his own eyes saw. It seems if the story is true that Dick Slater sucker punched Sting. June 2004, Slater was convicted of attacking his former girlfriend, Theresa Halbert. On December 27, 2003, it was reported that Slater had stabbed Halbert with a butcher's knife. So from what I got from the story is that Dick was a real dick by being abusive to Dark Journey, sucker punched Sting and tried to murder his former girlfriend Theresa Halbert with a knife. One thing is for sure, if Slater would behave abusive to one of Big Poppa Pump's freaks he would be torn apart. Also if that shit would happen in WCW, Bischoff would just send out Meng/Haku to humble him after that he would for sure be a changed man.

Sting was my guy in 1987/1988 when I saw him debut in NWA/WCW as the guy who would eventually dethrone Ric Flair. There was so much going on in NWA in the late 80s with the Horsemen, The Steiners, Manny Fernandez/Rick Rude, Nikita Koloff, Hot Stuff Eddie Gilbert, Kevin Sullivan, Gary Hart, Jim Cornette and The Midnight Express, The Freebirds...I even remember The New Breed. Sting was so electrifying and was the crowd favorite everywhere he went. Sting eventually beat Flair in Baltimore for the NWA title a month after I graduated high school in 1990. I finally got to see Sting live at an AEW show in Pittsburgh in 2021 or 22 and the place went NUTS for him. Respect to Steve Borden (Sting). He was always a crowd pleaser.

He talks like it was some kind of an accomplishment, or worthy of praise.. . I don't care enough to go research it, but I thought the backstory was that Slater had been fighting with his girl and left her stranded. So she hitched a ride with Sting, and Slater took offense and attacked him when he walked in.
