I will show you how to remove and replace upper and lower front control arms. You'll see the struggle I had with seized bolts and what I did to remove them. I'll also discuss the importance of adjustable controls arms and how they effect caster, ride quality, and overall handling.
Thanks for watching!

About to undertake this on the daughters 98 TJ. Nice video and good to see the "hiccups" along the way. I'll allow an entire weekend for this project - just in case

Thanks…It’s funny how an easy project can go sideways with a few seized bolts.

Cool video on this sharp TJ! I almost had a 65th anniversary edition TJ that had this same, great color combo. But someone had already put a deposit on it. Anyway, my '05 TJ Rocky Mtn has just a 2 - 2.5" lift with 32" KO2's. So, I only needed the Freedom Off Road front adj track bar and their front lower adj control arms, the rest are fixed Detroit Axles, and finally a transfer case drop kit. This is by far the best handling on and off road Jeep I've ever had. More importantly, staying with this set up has allowed me to keep that great 4.0 low end torque. I've known folks who just went from 32's to 33's and they lost that low end torque, rigs were sluggish dogs at that point. Then it involves a lot of unnecessary expensive aftermarket parts. The build is a little more involved, but essentially I kept it modest and built it for exactly what's nearby. Beach wheelin, beach camping and surf fishing in the Outer Banks. 😎🏝🌊🎣 With fall trails getting to our favorite fishing holes and camp sites. My sons and I love wheelin this TJ, by far the best and most fun vehicle I've had.

Sounds like you have a very cool and well set up jeep. So much more fun to drive and trail ride when they perform like they should. My daughter and I had a great time searching for this Jeep and getting it set up for her. So many Jeeps around here are completely rusted out from our winter road salt. Sharing cool Jeep, car, and truck experiences with your family and friends is what it's all about. Thanks for watching!

Great Video.. thanks ! I purchased a Jeep with like 6-7 grand of suspension and drive shafts, the whole bit. So I'm reverse engineering what is on this Jeep because its OBVIOUSLY Not set up right. For anyone else that reads this, your Rough Country 4" lift kit (the cheaper one) doesn't have adjustable Control arms. They sell it basically to "Get you up 4 inches and on the road". These upgrades to be done after. I research the rear adjustables next. My old Jeep i did a body lift and drove great, that was 3" inch body lift, and 33 x 12.50's. Had to shave the tires to get a smooth highway ride, but after that, smooth as could be. If you think you have a Large Tire Problem, Look for an old school "tire shaver".. they spin the tire at like 50 mph and shave it "true it" to be perfectly rond at high speeds. They take tread off, but in the long run, you get more miles out of the tires. With a lift and the Wranglers short wheel base (regular JEep) Everything is amplified when you raise it up. Just like if you had an older truck, and you had a shimmy in the rear end, you move thta tire to the front that has a coil suspension, the shimmy goes away, because the coil suspension can compensate for the imbalance. On the rear axle, itwill show the flaws. Hope this helps someone, I have fixed 10 things so far, no engine light on, all kinds of sfutt, fun but hard. Thank god for the jeep forums and KZfaq. I wanted to Edit this.. I DO NOT want to spend 70.00 on nuts and bolts ! :)

My goal for this channel is to share knowledge and get new people into the hobby. Thanks for sharing the lowdown on your lifted jeep and keeping that going in the comments. Awesome! In my mind, drivability is king and the basic lift kits don't come with adjustable control arms to get front caster correct, rear adjustable control arms to keep the pinion angle right limiting drive shaft vibration, drop pitman arm with the correct bracket to get the track bar angle correct. It takes some work to get them dialed in! Thanks for watching!

@@33milegarage34 Thanks for the tip ! Yes I have to do the rear after the front, and I'll use your approach on the front 👍

It’s to cold for poisonous spiders here in Michigan but spiders falling from the bottom of the Jeep would freak me out. It’s not funny but thanks for the laugh!

Just curious, are you in the Washington twp/Romeo, MI area? Saw some areas that look familiar along with your channel title. I am in the Wales Twp area.

You said you made the lower arms 1/4” longer for a 3.5” lift. What length did you put the upper arms? Also, did you replace the rear control arms? Do you add the same length tho those as well?

So the stock front lower control arm center to center measures 15.750”(400mm). I adjusted them to 16.0” (406.5mm) that got me to the minimum alignment specification. In my case 16.125” (409.5mm) would have got me more centered in the alignment specification. My numbers are reference because of worn out bushings and different lifts affect the geometry differently. I used the same procedure on the front uppers but haven’t done the rears yet. I hope this helps you out. Thanks for the great questions and watching!

looks like you have installed the lower control arms upside down. The bend should be up so you can slide better on them off the rocks... right??? Or am I totally wrong on this thinking?

I like your thinking for clearance but if you flip the lower control arms over I think they will hit the top of the rear mount. Thanks for watching

My TJ is wondering and has non returning steering....no give in the suspension...suks....it does have those adjustable control arms...but I am not a mechanic....do not know how to adjust them...might fool around and make it worse.

So the good news is you have adjustable control arms so that expense is covered. A local off road shop could adjust and setup the suspension along with an alignment and diagnose any other issues Thanks for watching hope that helps a little.
