G1 Optimus Prime has officially become the I Phone of transformers. I think it has beaten the Dino megazords record of how many versions are available for purchase at once. I count 5 at least.

@@Cadeho3 never actually said there WAS a problem. Although technically there can be. Brand recognition turns to brand fatigue really quickly. And having too many offerings simultaneously can hurt your relationship with the consumer. Buddy of mine paid full price for missing link only to have them reveal legacy prime which looks to be the same basic figur but 50$ cheaper. And we all remember the bait and switch of siege prime into earthrise. Not saying it will happen this year but eventually people will get tired of being duped.

@jackblackrosedragon9325 I expected going into the 40th year that there would be multiple Optimuses and well there are. He doesn't have to buy the deluxe OP. If he got Missing Link, then the Legacy one probably wasn't aimed at him. The two were for different audiences. For me though, I have a Missing Link Optimus and the deluxe one on pre-order. And SS86 got my preorder earlier. I don't feel duped at all. I'm adding more to my Optimus collection.

@@Cadeho3 accessibility is a good thing. I'm not saying that too many primes is the end of the world. I started off just making a joke, and I continued stating that there is a such thing as fatigue. I'm not saying that's what's happening right now, however if we were to do the same thing next year it might. Foresight my friend, take it from a power rangers collector. At this point we are mostly all sick of the original Dino megazord. I'm just saying I hope they give g1 prime a little breaky break . I also acknowledge how much further they have gone from G1. I am not complaining, I have an RID omega prime preorder and I'm so thankful that it is even possible. I'm not trying to be an ass I promise.

I would think they will do other Optimus Primes after this year and with next year focusing on the original Primes, we might get that rest. At this point, I just want to complete the G1 show and some of the toys up to the 1988 catalog and BW cast. Bring on those other characters who aren't A-list. We still love and want them.

86 Optimus may be accurate and perhaps the best CHUG Optimus But he will never beat the nostalgia I have for Combiner Wars Optimus and the sheer coolness and creativity of Classics Optimus

'86 Prime was soo high on my "we don't really need this, do we?" list, but seeing it in detail, this is definitely the definitive retail Prime, and I can't imagine a time when that stops being true. Though I thought the same of Earthrise, too, so who knows?

It definitely shows why a $90 price point is important for Prime. The drastically improved quality of the trailer, which he really needs if you’re going to display him in alt mode at all makes a massive difference. I personally do keep my only prime(a G1 reissue) in truck mode a lot, so I’ve held out on finally replacing him until we got a retail figure with a decent trailer. I’m sure they’ll find some way to improve on it eventually, maybe with the backpack, but it’ll be a long time unless he turns out to have serious QC issues.

Curious if the Commander Class price point is warranted. As it doesn't seem like it's as worth the price as Magmatron was. Will depend on how good the transformation is alongside it's size.

Also the truck that was scanned for Optimus' alt mode in the original pilot was orange. Would you really put it past anyone to make a weird subline of the vehicles they scanned, but with some other character for the bot mode? I know that's not what they're going for, but I thought it was an interesting coincidence.

Now that we have the ss86 Optimus prime, the evolution of the G1 Optimus prime is finally complete. First, the old G1 Optimus prime. Then the missing link Optimus prime. Then earth rise Optimus prime. And now ss86 Optimus prime. No wheels on the body and legs in the robot mode, cartoon and 86 movie accurate.

If only Metalhawk had a gold torso, like his original toy... this new one really isn't a toy-accurate colours variant at all. That said, I do prefer the grey used here.. especially for his weapons. I ain't asking for gold chrome, just wishing it was far less yellow, and far more shiny or faded gold paint; even would've been ok with swirly gold plastic, so long as it ain't prone to GPS. Instead of being an instant preorder, I'll wait for a sale...

I can already tell this is gonna take hours of review video watches to learn how to transform this, because defeat are hidden in vehicle mode, and the wheels are hidden in robot mode. It might even take an entire week for me to figure out how to transform this. I’m looking forward to an eventual shattered glass or nemesis prime colored version of it. It shall be mine!

Hasbro is really screwing up. Dinosaur robots are a concept that they should go in. They should give us a couple of episodes of Dinobot vs Dinoforce animation. Show us where it began and see the original modes, and then have the Dino robots scan species at the time they crash into Earth, which is when dinosaurs roam the world.

This thing sucks! Everything about this is just wrong to me. I dont like the back kibble which can pose some difficulty attaching Sideswipe's jetpack, the torso is too blocky, the chest windows are larger than they should be and are opaque, I prefer them clear and a little less of that shade of blue. No ab crunch or butterfly joints for better possibility for a "commander" figure. We've yet to see the matrix of leadership, I doubt we'll get it with this one. Missing decals like the stripes on his arms which can be seen on the side of the truck cab in alt mode and gray parts are missing off his shins which makes the legs look bland, and again, blocky. The trailer still looks too bland and dare I say only better then Earthrise's version by a slight margin. Why on earth is the Ion blaster cast in grey instead of the usual black? And now, first the leader class figures are getting smaller, now commander class is getting smaller release, and all this is worth paying $79.99-$89.99??? Definitely easy pass for me.

I usually could care less about any announcement of a new G1 Optimus Prime because Hasbro seems to release one every freaking year for the last 20 years. The market is over saturated with them and I don't think they have really improved on the design enough to warrant a new version of that design. HOWEVER I will make an exception for this one because this looks freaking amazing. I usually don't like FX parts but the fact that he comes with those parts to replicate the charge into battle scene that I will actually go for. That said I would not be surprised if we got a new figure next year and we go right back to just remaking this design for another 20 years before they actually produce an improvement in this version.
