Definitely hits in the gut - well said - and in the best of ways, as true, quality, music should. I feel surprised sometimes, especially at the live performances at how good they are - and then I think to myself - why am I surprised at this? They take their art seriously and it shows.

I think Brandon n co have been writing this good all their careers, but this album is on another level, it feels so personal to him and many fans. When I saw them at Wembley Stadium in 2013, Brandon actually wrote a song especially for that gig called ironically The Wembley Song, still get goosebumps listening to it now. He is such a talent as a writer & a singer

Brandon Flowers as an artist has reached a level of writing and arranging that few have attained. While previous Killer compositions were catchy and pop like, enjoyable, this body of work with Pressure Machine is a brilliant masterpiece. I place this record with the likes of In My Tribe by 10,000 Maniacs. Try to pick a favorite song and you will have a new one shortly after listening to the others after a short time. A terrific "concept" record. I never thought I would put the Killers in the same musical genre genius of REM or 10,000 Maniacs. People that compare Brandon Flowers lyrical writing with The Boss are selling Flowers short. I do not think Bruce Springsteen has ever used the phrases so fittingly in his songs such as "laughed it off like lemonade" or "when the mountain comes back to life it doesn't come from without, it comes from within." This record 100% deserves a Grammy. As a Project Recording Studio owner I am very critical of music. I don't very often praise an artists work to this degree. I have apparently offended fans of other musicians by giving objective critical opinions. Nothing to improve on this masterpiece of art.

@@lawrenceelmerfuhrmannjr5234 I would like to add that the production of the record is also equally impressive. There are so many instances of interesting sonic "ear candy" that is incorporated along with the various choice of instrumentation. The producers and mixing engineer should have Grammys also. As far as Brandon Flowers, I think he is in the company of Michael Stipe and Natalie Merchant . Brilliant song lyrics, story telling, and musical arrangements.

Have a listen to the band James if you don't already know them well. Their songwriting and sound is different, but absolutely on par. You can start with "Sit Down" and "Laid" if you like, which will come up first, but "Moving On" or the much older "She's a Star" are better in my opinion.

Pressure Machine is the best album that came out this year, no doubt. Every song has something special in it. Quiet Town hits different than any other song I ever heard.. That harmonica is so touching! Edit: since so many people are adding their favourite songs of the album in the comments, I want to say that mine is In The Car Outside. In a way it's like Imploding the Mirage from the previous album, every time I hear it, it pumps me up! Maybe not the most touching song but to me it's the best.

I gave this album a go when it came out but it didn't really stick with me at all, even though I enjoy the obviously Springsteen inspired Quiet Town. I either didn't make it to In the Car Outside or when I listened to it I didn't pay attention to the lyrics. After reading your comment I gave it another listen with the lyrics open in a browser. Holy shit that song just kicked me in the chest. Struggling a bit at the moment with two kids 3 and 4 and no family support in the pandemic. Thanks for commenting. The "quiet town" with so many secrets. I have lived in some of these quiet towns in my lifetime, especially in the Old South. Brandon Flowers is good at exposing these secrets. Some good.. some bad. Brandon is right -- people are born in these small, quiet towns, they live there all their lives, and then they die and are buried in the same quiet town. These people never leave the "quiet town'. I have relatives that fit this picture. Brandon is fantastic for knowing past vs. present generations at such a young age. Grammy! Brandon is very knowledgeable and hardworking!

This is their magnum opus in my opinion. It's the most cohesive concept album they've ever done. I dig the lofi production over the loud anthemic bombast they usually go for. The Getting By has now become my 7th favorite song from the record. Can not pick a top song. Too many. "Green Ribbon Doors, Dish Washer days." I find a little bit of Albert Camus in this song. The Killers were the soundtrack to my early teenage years, then I moved on and probably hadn't listened to them in ten years before stumbling across this new album on KZfaq. Thinking 'wow the Killers, blast from the past', I was inquisitive to have a quick listen. Not what I was expecting, but I haven't stopped listening to it since, I'm so impressed by the songwriting. Really wonderful.

I DID THE SAME . I HEARD SOMEBODY TOLD ME AND MR BRIGHTSIDE AND LOST TOUCH WITH THIER MUSIC BECAUSE I USUALLY LISTEN TO HARD ROCK . AND WE ALL KNOW THAT THEY HAVENT HAD THE SENSE TO CATCH UP IN YEARS. THEN I SAW THE VIDEO FOR READ MY MIND AND LOST MY MIND FOR NOT FOLLOWING THEM ALL THESE YEARS! THEN I SAW THE FULL CONCERT I BELIVE FROM 2018 IN GLASGOW . UNFRICKENBELIVABLE!!!!! THE BEST SONG LINEUP EVER

I adore the Killers and have done for a long time but wow who knew they could write these lyrics... I think the pandemic has given artists the time to explore and improve... don't get me wrong... I really loved Imploding the Mirage.. so fun, so many great catchy tunes... but this album is intense and beautiful and I have been listening daily since I got it...
