I just unboxed my 8 pro with my pixel watch. This will be my first smartwatch since the moto 360 came out 9 years ago. Definitely a bit of an upgrade. Thanks for the walkthrough.

Battery life has really improved significantly from Pixel Watch 1. I put my watch on last night at 10pm with 100% battery life. I did the sleep tracking with it and have been wearing the watch all day with Always On Display turned on. It's now 2pm and I still have 65% battery.

Thanks for the heads up on battery life. I know some had issues making it back to the charger in 24 hours. Great video.

Great review. I would've upgraded to the Pixel watch 2 (I have the first one) but I too was hoping for a slightly bigger watch. It looks a bit dinky. But google saved me money so I guess I can be happy. I'll keep my Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel watch 1 for another year. Not had any issues with either. 👍

@TKBay can you tell us how it works for swimming? I had the first gen of the Pixel Watch, and it could not measure lengths well. I left the old one because of the battery, should I buy this new one? Can I use it to track sleep and use it the next day? When do you usually charge it?

Nice tip about the option to flip the watch. I had to do that with the first gen version too because I accidentally called 911 after the back of my hand pressed the button 5 times while working on a task that made my wrist bend back.😄

Thanks for the comprehensive overview. Last week I ordered a pre-release Pixel 8 Pro (to replace my aging Galaxy 7 Edge running Android 8). As a result, I'm also expecting a Pixel Watch 2 thrown in as part of the deal. My only experience to date with smart watches has been with a Samsung Watch 2 so I've no experience of anything more up to date. I'm looking forward to exploring the capabilities offered with the enhanced watch sensors. I'm also curious as to what functionality I can expect if I don't opt for a Fitbit Premium account. Also, the idea of an always on display sounds good, but it'd be nicer if it had an option to switch itself off when the ambient light level dropped significantly such as when I turn in for the day (I never did feel comfortable turning on the Samsung with a twist of the wrist). Lastly, I've mixed feelings over the fact neither the watch nor the Pixel 8 Pro ship with a charger. It would have been nice if Google included one at a preferential price if ordered with a new phone for those that needed one.

The pins on the charger are really cool for developers, as they allow data transfer.

Do you think cases for the 1st gen will be compatible for the 2nd gen? I see you used one in this video, and put on a link in the description, but the one the description specifies that it shouldn't be compatible with the 2nd gen. Also, some articles mentioned their incompatibilities.

When it comes to the always on display, as long as the Pixel Watch 2 has a similar feature as the Galaxy watch's "wakeup gesture" where you just twist your wrist to wakeup the display, then I wouldn't need the always on display.

Never mentioned updating the watch. It takes over 2 hours as the phone and watch will set it up for blue tooth before wifi is even an option. It no where says (Please use wifi before blue tooth as its 200KB/sec transfer rate vs 50,000 KB/s of wifi. But that was left out of the video, thanks.

What case/screen protector are you using in the last section of the video? It fits pretty well with the silicone band. I'm looking for something similar for added protection.

I had the original Pixel watch and I liked it. I bought a Galaxy Watch 6 Classic larger size and I love it. I pre-ordered a Pixel 8 pro and I'm getting a Pixel 2 as part of the deal. However, after the reviews I will be sticking with the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic and selling the Pixel Watch 2. I appreciate the changes under the hood, but the performance and battery life on the original Pixel were fine for me. The lack of a larger size as well as those same huge bezels will keep me with the Galaxy Watch.

Did you find that the LTE version reduces battery life a lot on your version 1? I think it's pretty stupid they have the proprietary charger. Being able to charge it with any wireless battery source would be so much easier and accommodating. If you forget the cable you are screwed.

I like the Pixel Watch 2, but I prefer the Apple Watch Ultra 2 because it has a larger screen, a longer battery life, and more health and fitness features.

The great thing about the Pixel watch 2 is that theyre ten a penny on ebay, just picked up a brand new, unopened one for £175, i had the PW1 but only kept it for a week, battery life, size and bezels really annoyed me, i will give this another go due to slightly better battery life although i have the SGW6 dlassic with 3 day battery life and the Garmin Venu 2 plus with a 5 day battery life if i prefer

Fossil Gen 6 has Google Assistant AND Alexa. I pre ordered the TB Pixel 8 pro and it comes with this watch. I hope I like it better than my fossil Gen 5&6

As a Pixel user I'd like to use this watch, but I'm not going to pay for a Fitbit subscription just to fully use an already pricey watch. This way of making money is really disgusting.

Is the speaker still rubbish like the first watch?

for me the problem will always be battery life, i couldn't deal with 1 to maybe max 3 days if lucky with some watches.... i will not wear it because it will always be empty xD

I love the Google pixel watch im not getting the 2 as i have only just got the first addition in the sale for £200 im loving it so far i use Google assistant a lot to just ask to send a message or phone someone easy. What is the weight difference with the stainless steel and the new aluminium on the wrist i thought stainless was better as its more expensive if you buy the apple watch in stainless Steel im liking the bit of weight it gives after coming from the gw4 i use both now for difference reasons

primarily I am interested in health/stress tracking and long battery life. In terms of health/stress tracking the sense 2 is as good as the watch 2 but the sense 2 has a far battery life although the battery capacity is much smaller. What if I turn on all the tracking possibilities for health tracking also the cEda and sleep tracking on both devices but turn off everything else possible for energy safing which device would then have the longer battery life?

Thanks for the review, but it feels like you rushed through it and didn't really "show" anything but more just "talk" about them. I found you speaking very quickly and couldn't understand some things you said. When you were scrolling through watch faces for example, you didn't really show any, which is what I was hoping for because I know there are new ones but you just swiped top to bottom really quickly rather than actually showing the new faces. Overall it was a good lengthy review, but I personally felt that you talked more than actually showing. I hope this review/comment helps you when creating future videos. :)

I have one at home right now from the pixel 8 pro preorder bundle. Not sure if I should open it. I have a Fitbit Versa 3 and a Huawei Watch Fit 2 Active. Right now I'm using the versa 3, not sure which one of those two is more accurate but versa at least tries to give me altitude information. Charging it daily is my biggest fear. Especially when this isn't even considering a 9 hour hike.... can I use the pixel watch 2 for such long activities? 🤷‍♂😭

Does anyone know how to silence the alarm on the watch so it only vibrates?? You can take the volume down to low but not off. I think this is a bug, you could turn it off on the original Pixel Watch.

Very poor and convoluted watch - I was expecting so much better for a google product. It is a labyrinth to navigate - given there are so many smart watches out there I would have through google would have learned a bit. For sports activities - very limited information - for swimming - next to nothing. Thanks to amazon I got it to try it - I will be sending it back. They are amazing at marketing - slick marketing. The product is not a match to the costs or the hype.
