My birth father was a Vietnam Airborne Ranger. Just wanted to see what he did. I became an Airborne Ranger in 1985. Never met the man until after. I was adopted. My adoptive father said I was just like him. Hell, that's probably why I HAD TO BECOME A RANGER. It's in our DNA I guess. His commanding CO kept him in the Bush 3 months longer than he had to be. As he was being processed out the smartass told him he wanted to see him die out there. So my Birth Father asked him to step outside...and beat him into an inch of his life. I guess that's why I have a problem with corrupt authority. Ain't life a bitch...LOL!

Done very well. There is an old late 1980s movie called, "DISTANT THUNDER". It's Canadian, and starts out with an almost total massacre of a LRRP unit in Vietnam. The rest of the movie is about the lone survivors mental health problems after the war.

I won't go into criticism of the film as I consider it very nice our Russian brothers put this effort into a tribute to American forces. I am amazed at the tight rendition of The Zombies 'Time of the Season' at the end. I might not have even noticed it wasn't the Zombies if I hadn't caught a slight accent on a few words. Thanks!

Authentic uniforms and gear except for the full color 82d patch and scroll. No ranger in Nam would go in to the bush wearing that shit. Tactics were also executed really slow and lacked precision. Nice editing mixing real footage.

At 1:23 minutes you see "WILD CAT1, this is Red Bird 4. Affirmative, good luck guys. Over and Out".... radio terminology incorrect. Any real soldiers know ....over and out is incorrect! If this needs explaining more then I will do so.
@willieboy87985 жыл бұрын
not necessarily ....depends on the transmission, need , who you want to sound like , is it possible anybody is monitoring....ect..if you want to sound like newbie clodes instead of a precise unit that is what I would use. sometimes saying nothing is saying too much! sometimes saying too much is not enough chatter... today with digital multi freq and content transmissions... roger...send your traffic then over and out is fine, meaning you were expecting this and you got this. in other situations over ( over meaning i got your traffic and i need not say more)and terminate traffic, re-establish traffic, many sellections to use! normalized communication who you are, who you want to talk with, what you want to say, then let them know your done, stop>>>what is wrong with that??

To me, this is a serious attempt to respectfully honor U.S. Army Rangers, during the Vietnam era, by INEXPERIENCED people, utilizing a... uhm.... A Non Hollywood budget, shall we say. Hence the limited film location choices, and a.. hetummm.. questionable military tactics, methods, and mismatched uniforms Etc... (COMICAL at times.. Hint.. At 4:23 Shiny objects tend to attract deadly bullets). So please just sit back and try to enjoy the movie, even during the inaccurate cheesey parts. Although, at 03:23 the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne (Patch) are not the U.S. Army Rangers (There's a difference between the two).. (Yes you do make a notification, in the opening credits, although some people might think it strange / odd). Please do not worry, because HOLLYWOOD portrays INACCURACIES too. Take for instance, HOLLYWOOD'S version (Movie "Heartbreak Ridge" with Clint Eastwood), having U.S. MARINES inaccurately portraying the U.S. ARMY RANGER'S mission on the Island of Grenada's rescue of students (Year 1983). A good movie (Funny at times, Entertaining, Inaccurate). At 6:23 Nice selection of music (Zombies). Overall I enjoyed the film.

The U.S. Army Rangers are elite troops and birth goes back to WWII. They needed intense training in their methods so who help to train todays rangers grandfathers in their deadly methods? Well in '43 they were sent to Ft Pierce Fl. where they received intense training at the U.S. Navy Scout and Raider School. You see the USMC's version of the rangers were the Marine Raiders est. in '42, therefore, Marines showed the Rangers how to led the way something rangers forget.
@pfdrtom7 жыл бұрын
Former 1/75th here. They went to learn amphibious operations, that's all. And it was only 2nd Ranger Bn. Much like Marine Raiders went to army airborne school.

The marines didn't train them they've existed since the 1600s in America and became official u.s military in early world war 2 when colonial Darby got the first ARMY.RANGER SQAUD TRAINED BY BRITISH COMMANDOS( S A S FORERUNNERS MAYBE ROYAL MARINES THEN THE FIRST US RANGER SCHOOLS GOT OPENED AT FORT BENNING my grand dad went through it and was part of little known 29th RANGER division never activated even after "less than 7 men of both RANGER battalions survived their last battle and got obsoebes by some army division there were also Irish rangers associated like west side boys but the only marines involved were the ones who launched from the naval troop carriers when the 29th div follwed after the marines in the Normandy invasion

Horrible tactics.. #1) all bunched up together.. #2) wearing unit patches ??? #3) getting into gun fights while on a L.R.R.P.?? With small team??? #4)exposed almost the whole video team did not use the jungle the proper way. Blend in become one with the jungle. #5) a live prisoner is more.valuable than a dead enemy soldier. The opportunity to snatch a V.C. prisoner was there. Yet not taken advantage of.. #6) tha tiger stripe stuff.is.mumbo-jumbo Better to stick with O.D. green fatigues and green face paint and aviator gloves in O.D. #7) movement should be slow and deliberate and in a straight line with proper spacing between patrol members... #8)the enemy should be Asian not American/ caucasian lol!
@gunchief08114 жыл бұрын
@@Terracecasualx5 I'm not saying they didn't wear tiger stripes in Vietnam.. that pattern goes back a long time. I know it because I've work it also and I joined the Marines in 1984.. what I'm saying is I don't like it as a way to properly camouflage an individual soldier or Marine.. I prefer O.D. green... It blends a whole lot better in the jungle... So it's not about me being right or wrong.. it's just my opinion. I never claimed they didn't wear tiger stripe pattern for the fatigues L.R.R.P.S. wore it yes. and if you ever watch the movie "the green Berets"are in 1968. They wore it on patrols in the movie. And that movie was made at the Height of the Vietnam war using a lot of actual soldiers in the film. I served 21 years. I was always in the field. Did jungle warfare at Okinawa Japan. And also FT. Polk lousiana. I wore woodland pattern and digital patterns. Worked fine. But I have always preferred the O.D. green...
