India isn't in strategic triangle with China. Infact the main reason India isn't taking sharp position in this conflict is because India wants Russia to remain neutral in future China India conflict. Weakened and isolated Russia will be a client State of china. This dragon bear alliance would seal the fate of Asia no matter what India and Japan do. Therefore India is staying neutral in this conflict.

The analisys is incomplete until you add that 1China buys a lot of Saudi oil, 2 that oil is shipped thru the Malacca strait 3 India has placed considerable military in the Nicobar and Andaman Islands that guard the entrance to the Malacca strait 4 Indonesia has allowed India to operate from a base in Sabang, closing the net 5 China is not happy that a major oil supply lane is under India's surveillance, and possible control The "skirmishes" for territory that no one cares in the mountains are a sideshow. The Indians are buying the russian oil to stop China from taking it.

Albeit less efficient, the same oil can be sent to Pakistan and then sent over through Pakistan to China, which, I doubt Pakistan would oppose.

Russia, China & India will be tied together through their dependence on fossil fuels: Russia needs the other two as customers who will be outside of US dollar domination. China cannot depend on Saudi oil due to the vulnerability of shipping oil through ocean routes. They think it's enough that they now have Russian oil & gas almost in their hands as Europe works on getting out from under Russia's domination through oil & gas. Russia, China & India will be blind-sided through their ignorance of the implications of climate change. The West intends to address climate change problems starting 10 years from now; Russia, China & India in 20 years from now. Even our deluded and lying scientific establishment doesn't believe we have 10 years.

Correction: the 1971 Deal between India & Russia was mostly due to US being a Pakistan ally. In the Indo-Pak of ‘71, US, UK brought their navies to the Indian Ocean to choke Indian navy and support Pakistan. So India signed a deal with the Soviets for mutual understanding & USSR navy protecting India in case any 3rd party interferes. This was the major reason. NOT BECAUSE OF CHINA really. The west has a problem in acknowledging the fact that it supported a terrorist, Human tight violator state of Pakistan who conducted atrocities on Bangladesh.

India hasn't pulled it off. The wolves will be knocking on India's door and they will eventually have to choose. The worst thing for India is if chairman Xi is boosted out of office and china's next chairman is pro-west (like Jiang zimin) and leverages their friendliness to push India off to the side. You see, the west needs a partner and the problem with India and China is they think they are the next big thing and will overtake the west, and the rest of asia. This ignores the geopolitics of the Asian continent and views a matter that is entirely Asian in nature through the lenses of Ukraine. India will never enter into any "alliance" with China, even saying that they're "frenemies" is stretching it. India and China have remained quiet over the issue in Ukraine, yes because they have some stake in Russia, but mostly because they have no horse in the race. It's a European war and Asia does not care about it. Europe has not cared about any Asian war since the days of Vietnam, with the genocide in Bangladesh still not being tried in the Hague and the perpetrators of multiple genocides in South East Asia living out their lives in peace. Why should Asia care? China and India do not care to curry favour from the West and are capable economies. The West relies on food imports from India, China and South East Asia and it would take at least 2-3 years (based on crop cycles alone) to replace that dependence. China and India, best described as mortal enemies, simply don't care

@bruce parka If India had access to US technology, then they wouldn't have had been in a position to not oppose Russia. It is precisely the US "not caring" for India that has led to this situation where it finds no takers for it's own meddling in Asia. To put it plainly, the US is seeing the consequences of it's stupidity.
@harshjain3122
@harshjain3122 2 жыл бұрын
@bruce parka it's not like the west can wage a war against Russia either, can they? It's not about morality man, it's just...Asia has a lot of shit to work on and catch up to u guys. For example, getting involved against Russia can lead to India losing Russian military equipment directly putting it's national security at danger against china, a superpower literally next door. How many nations are in that situation? How many US soldiers will fight in the Himalayas against the Chinese for india? Exactly. We are on our own. So it's about maintaining a delicate balance, and more so...not risking higher inflation on oil and crude prices(might seem like we are selfish, cuz our nation will practically break down cuz unlike west, we can't sustain too much high levels of inflation whilst FDIs are also leaving)...there a lot of reasons, but you can't and shouldn't try keeping us against a wall and expecting co-operation.

I don’t know what food India exports to the West but what gives them (us) leverage to do as we please is that we know the West needs us as a counterbalance to China in the Asia Pacific region. I mean SK, Japan, Australia are great but India is the only nation that can fit that role. Plus Russia is our friend and has been a good and loyal one at that.. we cannot betray them. We dislike a war between brother peoples, especially ones we rather like (ex USSR), but will still stand besides Russia as long as it doesn’t compromise our relations with the West. Our relations with Russia are one of friendship and genuine goodwill, I’m afraid our relations with the West are as of now based on pragmatism and fraught with mistrust. That’s why the government is trying to walk the fine like between Russia and the West.

Before the 90s India had a ton of socialist policies.. the founders of India Nehru, Gandhi, Chandra Bose were self proclaimed socialists where as Pakistan was strongly against socialism and communism because of their association with atheism and secularism. Since during the cold war all that mattered was your stance on capitalism and socialism and nothing else the US ignored Pakistan's undemocratic tendencies and chose to ally with them and in turn India grew closer to the Soviet Union for their own security. Edit : also the US wanted to seed deeper ties in the middle east and Pakistan is culturally and geographically closer to the middle east than India is

‘Few’ countries support India on Kashmir? India was ready to hold a plebiscite in 1948 as long as the conditions of the UN resolution were met. It was Pakistan which refused to abide by the UN resolution by which time Jammu and Kashmir had firmly and legally become Indian territory. Moreover, the founding principle of India was opposite to the founding principle behind Pakistan and Indians will NEVER let go off that founding principle (despite some religious disturbances seen in recent times).

Would you like to pay taxes of which a portion is given to a state that does not add to the tax themselves, wouldn't allow you to ever go there and settle/invest, and can do whatever they want with the money??? This reminds me of the tripartite pact before ww1 and the creation of the central powers. Germany was great allies with both Italy and Austria-Hungary, but fundamental disagreements and even border disputes between Italy and Austria-Hungary meant that the two hated each other. And despite how strong Italy and Germany’s alliance was, it was this disagreement between Germany’s allies which resulted in Italy joining the entente rather than the central powers. While in a potential 3rd World War I don’t see India ever going to war with Russia, I doubt they would ever join the war on the Sino-Russian side, and if anything might actually fight against China.

The largest reason for strained Indo-Chinese relations is because China sees India as a rival in the Indian Ocean. We aim to be a world leader one day and for a multipolar world, but China wants it's shot at global hegemony much like the US, and other western countries got. Therein lies the problem, China's diplomacy entails seeing the other nation as weaker than China while India in the Asian continent employs the 'big brother' diplomacy, always trying to be the supportive and encouraging big brother but one not hesitant to scold you for a mistake. China wants more and more power and influence over the world, while India wants to atleast save it's power and influence in the Indian subcontinent if not increase it's own influence. China would not mind India increasing it's own power and influence so long as it remained under Chinese influence and remained weaker than China. They would probably not mind a situation like the one with Japan and US. Problem is, India doesn't want to be under China's lead. We have never joined the western or the eastern bloc in the cold war, and now we don't want to join the Chinese block. China doesn't like that since it knows India is among the only nations that can truly counter it. Thus the clashes. China supports Pakistan to keep India in check, but considering Pakistan does not focus on economic competition but on spreading terrorism we don't like that at all. It is a general consensus among the public that India spends way too much on defense but it's a necessary expense. If China and Pakistan back off, we could spend billions more on development. So there is also that anger against China. Then there is tibet. Tibet and India have long and historical ties and there is much anger here for what China does in tibet. If China allowed Tibet to become an independent country then the relations could improve but that is less likely than Putin winning the 2024 US election. So overall, China is the one that will have to take serious steps in order to improve the relations, the least of which will be to stop the border disputes, give us back Aksai Chin and stop their support of Pakistan.

Tibet is Chinas source of water for 1.4 billion people. India intentions for Tibet is clear, as a means to control Chinas water supply. China sees dams for Hydropower, India sees dams as a weapon of war. Seeing how Indian geopolitics talk about blowing up 3 groges dam. wow insanity. China has long history with Tibet. Tibet was part of Qing Empire? that's hundreds of years in relevant recent history. Are you ignoring that. China does not support Pakistan to threaten India. That's paranoia. India wants Pakistan economy to be crushed. China just wants its neighbors economies to prosper. Pakistan is a corridor for oil from the middle east. But I understand you. India would like have their cake and eat it too. They want to be closer to both the West and Russia but away from China 🇨🇳. It is probably good idea to stay neutral but the Ukraine 🇺🇦 has shifted the whole situation. I think India’s biggest challenge is from China 🇨🇳 so you either beat your enemy or submit and join him. If I was the Indian prime minister, I would be moving closer to the West while also occasionally flirting with China and Russia just to remind the West of my importance. Russia 🇷🇺 can give you cheap oil and weapons that are outdated and they give the same to China as well but They will not help you counter China 🇨🇳. I think the biggest worry for India from joining the West is that they feel the West is just using them to counter China 🇨🇳 rather than accepting India 🇮🇳 as an ally like they would accept countries like Australia. Either way it is good headache to have when people are fighting over you knowing all too well of your strategic importance unlike China 🇨🇳 who is doing everything to get allies to no avail.

The EU is set to ban Russian oil and the EU share of oil imports from Russia has actually dropped. The rouble only seems strong on the surface due to tight state controls. In reality russia will see its economy contract by 10-15% and the west will soon cut off all energy imports from Russia, meaning Russia will have less capital to maintain and build new pipelines to divert supplies to China and India, plus India and China wouldn’t be able to take any extra oil from Russia than it does now due to its own infrastructure limits. This is not a simple unilateral relationship, but a global industrial and trade chain adjustment based on the Russian-Ukrainian conflict (I prefer to call it the delayed Soviet civil war). It is an opportunity for any developing country - China, India, Iran, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, even Egypt, Algeria, and friends from Latin America. In fact, the relationship between China, India and Russia actually includes - Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Turkey. This intricate mix of diplomatic interests makes it impossible to achieve a stable alliance, but it does not prevent developing countries from choosing their own profit points in the Western recession brought about by this conflict. In the next era, Asia, Africa and Latin America should no longer be the low-level processing and production sites of Europe and North America. Final statement: China is obviously unwilling to alert its neighbor India when it is playing a game with the United States - this is obviously common sense, otherwise it can only be China's overreach. The direction China is currently dealing with is East Asia and Southeast Asia, and there may be overlapping areas of power projection in Southeast Asia and India. I think China and India should consider solving each other's boundary and power projection range. Arunachal Pradesh is unrealistic for China, and Aksai Chin is the same for India. As leaders of developing countries (we cannot ignore this fact), China and India should not hesitate in the grand strategic direction of breaking through the old Western system. It should not be too short-sighted to invest too much on the Himalayan issue.

@@whitegoose2017 Yes sure. But here’s the thing it’s not like the Europeans didn’t know this was a possibility. The annexation of Crimea happened 8 years ago and thus European nations could have easily pivoted away from Russian energy. Europe is the sole party to blame for this but generally Europe gets far less flak then India does on the internet regarding oil imports. Understandably, on one hand people will argue that even if Europe uses more Russian oil imports in a day then India does in an entire month, it is making a conscious effort to reduce this reliance unlike India which is seeking to increase their imports. But here in lies the problem, which western countries fail to acknowledge. India is a much poorer nation. This conflict in Ukraine has caused global prices of oil to rise more and more. India cannot afford to miss out on the cheap Russian oil. I live in Britain so I’ll speak using the pound, but convert to whichever currency you find more appropriate. The fuel prices jumping 50 pence is not as much of a big deal to the British as much as a 50 rupee increase in petrol prices in India. Whilst the increase may be the same in this instance the effect of the increase is disproportionately higher in India. In a country where hundreds of millions live in abject poverty (more then the entire population of a lot of European nations I’m sure) its hard to tell them to cut back on Russian oil and buy much more expensive oil from the Middle East because of a war where they need to punish a long time ally for invading a country, that has vehemently been against India, in an entirely different continent. Not to mention this wouldn’t be the first time America has tried to flex and bully India into changing its oil imports. When Trump sanctioned Iran and broke away from the nuclear deal, India was strong armed into stopping oil imports from Iran since Iran also offered oil at cheaper rates then other Middle Eastern countries. This led to increased oil imports from other sources such as Russia, but even moreso the US themselves. The US directly made a profit as it sold the oil at a much higher price then what Iran was selling it. A similar playbook was attempted here but India rightfully stood their ground. India if it is an ally it needs to be treated as such. The condescending tone that I hear from western articles and journalists to India’s position reeks of some sort of superiority complex at times and clearly they fail to understand India’s geopolitical and security concerns. If the west wants India to be a counterbalance to China, it needs to also extend a hand towards India.

This is a deeply stange notion. India has been historically non-aligned. They are NOT having good relations with China. They are not entirely happy with Putin's Russia, but they seem to at least think they need to continue their relationship with Russia. They do have a somewhat nascent and relatively new relationship with the USA. In other words, they are trying to stretch out their historical neutrality as far as they can - possibly beyond when it realistically can be maintained.
