Jason, thank you for your detailed videos. It's hard to find a non-influenced detailed review of r/c products. Because of your detailed review I'm not going to get the B5M (which everyone races at my local track) I'm going to get the TLR 22.3 or the TLR-4. Great reviews man!! Thank you for your very informative videos, now I'm going to research if you cover electronics too. Your awesome buddy! ( FYI: I've been doing R/C since the 80's, owned 19 cars and trucks, built every single car I owned.) Thanks again man, just letting you know an old school r/c guy appreciates your detailed videos.

Great video as always, really appreciate the honesty; that's what keeps us loyal viewers coming back. It seems the HB is the standard but they can't seem to keep the buggy in stock and I've heard lots of complaints about parts availability. The reason I don't run a wheeler is that it's going to break (they all do at some point) and what good is it if you're waiting 4 weeks for parts. I've seen your video and heard all the negative stuff around the track about the associated, seems the HB car has parts availability issues, I hear there are major problems with the Xray so that leaves the Kyosho (insanely expensive ), yokomo (only mail order parts support), schumacher (mail order parts), losi and the new serpent. My experience with serpent isn't that great and I've found their replacement and hop up parts to be laughably expensive. Thus is why I have commitment issues with wheelers. If Tekno would put one out I'd be all over it.

Jason, I love the reviews! thanks so much for taking the time to make them. I'm getting back into RC racing after a 15 to 20 year absence and wanted to ask two quick questions from you for your opinion, since so much has changed in that time. I'm looking to get a 4wd electric 1/10 scale car and wanted to see what your pick would be in the $200-$300 range. I've always raced team associated RC10s but really like this review of the Losi 22-4. Between those two or any other ones in that price range, what would be your pic? Lastly, what motor would be optimal for an electric 4wd car that would put me in a position to at least compete? I'm completely overwhelmed with the number of options out there! Again, thanks for your time!

appreciate all your work on these videos Jason, what we see on you tube is just the tip of the iceburg i'm sure. Any news on when the 2 wheel shootout video is coming? As the proud owner of a serpent spyder srx2 I've been looking forward to that one. Ta. Keep up this amazing work, best channel for RC no doubt. mike

Thank you for this very in-depth review of the 22-4 I was just given one as a roller last weekend by a guy at the local RC track I just recently started going to the track and want to race my first race will be this coming Saturday. But anyways after all was said and done I had another guy come up to me and tell me that Thai buggy was basically a waste of time and that I’d spend more time replacing belts than anything. But I figured if I can make it one series or 5 races in summertime and then a month off (when I’d most likely tear my cars down and super clean and rebuild) before our 5 race winter series and then same thing again that month off

Nice dude. I loved my XXX-4 won a lot of races with that buggy. Took me like 2 weekends of testing tires and suspension to really get it dialed in.. I also raced a Losi XXX-BK2 and Losi xxx CR. And the one thing i noticed was the CR was alot alot more stable and jumped slightly better.. But my lap times were a lot faster with the XXX-BK2 and the only thing i can think of ws i raced the BK2 for 3yrs. And only a few month with the CR.. BTW i loved the video review nice racing at the end

One major benefit from the shock rod threads being narrower than the shock shaft is that the threads wont rub the seals (Xrings/Orings). Hence you can disassemble and reassemble for maintenance as much as you want without fear of scuffing the rings. Im a fan of disassembling and lubricating with green slime (or similar) without having to replace the rings every time. Thumbs up!

Nice job on the review for the TLR 22-4 Buggy. It was thorough, and very helpful. I just bought this kit and I'm about 2/3 of the way into the build. I'm pretty new to electric racing. My first electric platform was the TLR SCT TEN 2.0. I have raced 1/8 scale Nitro Buggy and Truggy for 5 years now and Losi is the only brand I will run. There has been some debate with my fellow racers on which motor to run on the 22-4. Some run 6.5 turn and some prefer 7.5 turn. I chose the Tekin 7.5 turn Gen3 motor with the RSX speedo. I'm still learning about electric racing so any suggestions would be appreciated as far as gearing and setups go. Thanks for the help! I appreciate what you're doing for all of us die hard RC adrenaline junkies!

Jason, know this is later than when the original video was posted, but I used to race (before I moved out of state) at Leisure Hours, with Kochanski and the gang. Was just starting to run up there right before you moved, but you probably don't remember me. Anyway, on my 22-4, I was having front belt slip issues like you mention in this video. After messing around with it quite a bit, I found it wasn't the front belt, but the "clicker" pieces behind the red spacer and lock nut on the front end. For whatever reason, when disassembling the car, I used the old lock nut, and it would just ever so slightly loosen when I would start running, and allow those clicker plates to slip. Put a new fresh lock nut on and bam, problem solved. Wasn't a belt issue after all. Anyway, something to mention if you still have the car and still run in to these issues. Seth

Great review Jayson (us usual), just one thing, regarding the noise your hearing under braking which you recon is the front drive belt slipping, could it not actuality be the "Clicker" operating?

Great Review man ,, and you are right about the 22-4 is does jump very well but like u said the First Gen 22-4 was not all that strong at all and this is coming from a Associated guy I noticed my friends at club racing they would break and the better drivers would not break as much as the other drivers .. and I would always tell them LOL should of gotten an B44.2 LOL just to bust there Balls ... but the one thing I don't like about the B44.2 it does not Land as Great as The Losi does it just seems a Much Smother car ... Now the thing I love about the Losi 22-4 is its belt driven and the front Clicker is a Great option to have and really can benefit your driving , If you take some extra time to adjust it Jayson I think u can stop that front Belt from slipping ,, If you back out on the front slipper a little more it will help the car My old Associated Sc10 4x4 had the belt drive and front Slipper Clutch and I loved it was just a great option to have and really does Work Great ! .. well ill have to Let all my Losi Friends Know that TLR has New update on there 22-4 !!

Love my 22-4.. The drive train is a fine balance between diff tightness, slipper tightness, and brake %. If you're only 50% brakes and still skipping you miight have to loosen slipper a tiny bit. If it's been run any time w it skipping you'll prob need fresh belt and pulleys if they look worn. should be fine after that.

if you add the one-way clicker, that will help reduce belt slip at the front. when all said, I have no problem with the buggy.

I'm curious now. Since you are running a shorty LiPo on the driver's side. do you think a 3S 5'200 50C would fit that space? It's the Lectron Pro. It's around the same size as a 6 cell Nimha... the only reason I ask is that here in Idaho Falls we are only running a black top track setup by our LHS. So no serious racing yet and I'm a basher 1st and a racer 2nd.

Hi, When you mentioned that using a shorty and shifting the electronics to the side as compared to the saddle packs with the electronics to the front, would make a big difference to how the car drives. BUT which of the two setups handles better?

i really like you vids I find all of your vids informative and interesting but I dont race I don't even have a running rc at the moment. I have been thinking of getting into rc racing and have a track close by but I was wondering where do i start I mean should I go sc or buggy or truck 2 wheel drive or 4 . I have been doing quite a bit of research and I think i am leaning toward the sc 2 wheel to start just to get a good base but I am looking forward to your input

Go to the track and see what everyone else is running and ask a few questions on what racers prefer. You can get a ton of information that way. After doing that then decide what you want to race. Getting into it is expensive at first, but after a while the only major expense will be tires, and maybe spare parts. Remember to get a car that the local hobby shop has parts for.

i wouldnt call the 22-4 a new buggy. from what i can see in the video its just a updated xx4. i havent been a fan of losi since the xxx4 came out because i think the quality of losi items has dropped. the xxx4 had problems with the rear of the chassis breaking off so the rear arms would fall out. i HATED the fact that a few years ago in order to even make a losi car perform you would have to buy many upgrade parts after buying the car when most other manufacturers cars were great right out of the box. i still do not see the quality of losi improving as much as i would like it to so i still have to pass on them as a company.

some19872003 They realized that and changed this with the 22 2.0 and the 22-4. They come out of the box with aluminium parts for the parts that usually break when plastic. They come with stronger thicker arms, etc. My 22 2.0 hardly every breaks anything. I don't crash hard often, though. However, for fun, I took it to a concrete skate park and pulled off some crazy jumps. It took a while before I broke a front arm.
