In my 66 years of age I have never listened to a South African politician for this long.This president is the best no one has walked out and it is so quiet you can hear a pin drop.I respect the intellectual attendees there as well as the Honourable Dr Thabo Mbeki.I am just hoping that you are mentoring someone.I would like to contribute my little knowledge to the foundation as I am retired.I am not an avid reader like the president but I try.

I’ve been saying this many a times” South Africans are not xenophobic” I even developed hating the very term “ xenophobia” if people are not satisfied about certain issues, or actions by foreigners, they are called xenophobic. That must stop. Example: we will never be able to control drugs and human trafficking, if communities are scared to talk because they will be called xenophobic.

Technology: Mr President, with what I hear, I'm guessing the panel that decided to give school kids tablets is made of old people such as yourself. I do not dispute the need to give new generation the opportunity to learn technological aspects of the 4th industrial generation. I just do not agree with the approach. Firstly, we need young people with great teaching, and technological skills to introduce such an industry. Merely giving school kids tablets does not guarantee a success in transferring of knowledge. My suggestion, Mr President, please go back to the drawing board and engage with young people on the way forward.

If I may comment on the land issue, there is one pertinent question we must answer with regards to the question of land that was taken from the African people, "How was this land taken out of our hands and ended up belonging to the white person permanently?". Answering that question would give us and lead us to a permanent way of bringing back the land to rightful owners and take away the option of choosing money than land. The colonial strategy ensured that psychologically land is taken out of an African child child from the mind, and is replaced by a tie around his/her neck. Land was not taken away physically only. It was also taken away psychologically and therefore "permanently" from our people. Our government has to deal with the psychological side of it before looking at the physical aspect. Once land value is not in the mind of an African child, how can the government bring back the land to an African child back physically? It's practically impossible. My wish would therefore be the engagement of this topic (the psychological side) and let it be broadly exhausted in order to apply the best policy in bringing back the land. As the former President encourages a thorough analysis and evaluation of the merits of different situations like xenophobia, such approach must apply in analysing the land important and use thereof. There's no way in the midst of poverty and unemployment, an African child (the land claimer and hereditary owner, would believe that in order to get food, one has to go to a retail store like if I may say "Shoprite" knowing fully well that the very little money the household has, is circulated back to the very person who took the land. More mind has to be applied Mr former President.
@phikwalulamile1539
@phikwalulamile1539 2 жыл бұрын
I'm so interested to what the former president Tata Thabo Mbeki mentioned pertaining to agricultural land use which he say it contributes 3% to the total GDP and then therefore cannot be the focal point compared to other economic sectors (97%). I understand what his economic basis of analysis is, but my question therefore would be, what type of a nation are we, that is so less interested to producing our own food (milk, eggs, maize, meat etc) which our own forefathers used to produce and now depend on our former colonizers in food production? Is it safe, is it good, is it healthy, is it not dangerous for a nation forgetting how to produce it's very own food and thereby dependant. Is there no way a government can take this as a concern and do seriously something about it. I foresee a nation that has lost its land in the past and looses even it's food in the future. A nation that ends owning nothing. Land and food go together and if we say we can't use land which goes hand in hand. If we can identify that this 3% as a threat and do something about it, I honestly don't doubt that we are heading for a future disaster which will render us back to slavery.

Slavery in South Africa existed from 1653 in the Dutch Cape Colony until the abolition of slavery in the British Cape Colony on 1 January 1834. This followed the British banning the trade of slaves between colonies in 1807, with their emancipation by 1834. Beyond legal abolition, slavery continued in the Transvaal though a system of inboekstelsel.
