Always thought this would sound good on the Genesis, so I might as well have covered it, right? I implemented a few features from both the Arcade and SNES versions into this.

Definitely my favorite track in all of Turtles in Time, and I was sad that it wasn't in The Hyperstone Heist. This pretty much sounds like i would have imagined it to be.

This sounds great and is one I wanted to hear done on Genesis. I prefer the music in Hyperstone Heist to Turtles in Time, but I thought Neon Night Riders was one of the stronger tracks in the SNES game. Thanks for sharing this.

You familiar with The Hyperstone Heist at all? A few songs from Turtles in Time are in that game, but not this one. The ones that are, though, sound pretty awesome. The Mega Drive reproduces the Turtles in Time sound pretty well.

Yes, Hyperstone Heist sounds pretty good. The drum samples and voices are super low quality though, but overall, the tracks it shares with the SNES version sound better on the Genesis in my opinion.

They should make a hack/repro of hyperstone heist with an additional level with this music. It could be where they would be riding on a highway to the city, or from the city. Also if they were in the sky surfing on the board on their way to Shredder’s hideout for example. Maybe if they were landing to Shredder’s hideout from an airplane they jumped out that was about to crash. I have wild imaginations 😜

Just listened to the arcade version of this, and it reminded me of the track Space Walk from Thunder Force IV. This sounds good, but if you used the instruments from the TFIV track, it would definitely sound closer to the arcade!

This is perfect? Like, you’ve even got the stage name announcement n’ everything? Totally random thought though - I somehow liked the orch hit in this a LOT better than the one in your StarFox Corneria cover. I don’t know if there’s actually a difference, but it just seems slightly less… dry? Abrupt? Something like that. (Corneria was still amazing, though!)

Considering that The Hyperstone Heist was a altered and watered-down port of Turtles in Time, I actually wished that Konami could have implemented a remade version of the Neon Night-Riders stage in THH, like having the Turtles fight the Foot Clan while hoverboarding over the Hudson River or the Brooklyn Bridge. Anyway, lovely Genesis remix of that BGM. I only wish that you could have made it longer.
@Maru969 жыл бұрын
Hyperstone Heist isn't a port of Turtles in Time. Still, Konami did a mediocre job with it except for the music.
@Loader2K19 жыл бұрын
Marcel Weber If you play either the original arcade or Super NES version of Turtles in Time and then play The Hyperstone Heist, you'll see for yourself that THH is an altered and watered-down port of TIT. I assume Konami went in a slightly different direction for THH due to the hardware limitations of the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive. I disagree with you on Konami doing a mediorce job with THH. I actually found THH pretty fun, although I would have liked to have had the time-travel element in THH.
@Maru969 жыл бұрын
Loader2K1 "I assume Konami went in a slightly different direction for THH due to the hardware limitations of the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive." lolno, genesis is much more capable than SNES for this type of games, just look at SoR2 and SoR 3 on mania to see what i mean. That's is why Konami did a mediocre job with Hyperstone Heist, they clearly did a quick cash-grab using the TMNT license on genesis, reusing backgrounds, bosses, gameplay, using the same limitations from Turtles in Time on SNES even when the genesis can do better resolution and more enemies on screen etc. This was very common on Konami, just compare all the AAA titles they developed for the SNES compared to Genesis AAA titles, on genesis there are like 2 AAA titles, on SNES like 10, Konami never half-assed a SNES game, while they half-assed a lot of genesis games. This was also very common with Capcom. It's surprising that the genesis did so well in USA when the SNES had two powerful allies like Capcom and Konami.
@ChiptunedRaijin9 жыл бұрын
Konami and Capcom both did a poor job with the Genesis. It was probably because the SFC was more popular in Japan and they made more money with that. Still, since the Genesis is so similar to Arcade hardware, it doesn't make sense that they did so poorly when they did so well with Arcade games, especially Konami. Treasure pretty much shamed Konami though since they made nothing but great games for the Genesis. The Genesis is indeed more capable in general, but SNES games tend to look "better" or "more impressive" because of its graphical effects and more colors.
@Loader2K19 жыл бұрын
Marcel Weber While I'm not going to say that one console was better than the other, I will say that there were some games that were handled better on the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive than the Super NES and vice versa. In the case of TMNT: The Hyperstone Heist, Konami didn't have the brighter visuals, the CD-quality sound, and some of the enhanced gameplay mechanics they gave Super NES owners with their port of Turtles in Time, but THH was far from a bad game in my humble opinion. In fact, I believe Konami was working with what they had with the Genesis/MD hardware to the best of their abilities on it. While their Genesis/MD catalog was very small (mostly due to Nintendo having its third-party support in iron-clad contracts at the time), I did enjoy the majority of their games, like Rocket Knight Adventures, Tiny Toon Adventures: Buster's Hidden Treasure, Castlevania Bloodlines, and, despite the American version being balls-to-the-wall hard, Contra Hard Corps, and of course, THH. I didn't really like the Genesis/MD version of TMNT: Tournament Fighters, though. I honestly felt Genesis/MD owners got screwed with that version of the game. Hell, I even liked the NES version over it.

ChiptunedRaijin Would the drum and orch hits sound as clear on real hardware?
@ChiptunedRaijin10 жыл бұрын
therangersrule68 Just about. Hardware can play samples up to 26KHz. This is playing at 32KHz, because that's the highest implimented rate for some reason, and I have no way to select a specific rate (like 26KHz). In any case, it's not far off, so it sounds pretty similar.
@toddoroi494710 жыл бұрын
ChiptunedRaijin Certain models of the Mega Drive are more flexible with sample rates, some distort or just crash after 26khz and some (from what I've heard) can go up to 53khz.
@ChiptunedRaijin10 жыл бұрын
Toddo Roi No. You're thinking of the FM portion. The FM is 53KHz. The PCM can go as high as you want it, but it skips writes past 26KHz.

Did you take the orchestra hit from the SNES one? I've heard the Genesis was no good at that, and this one sounds exactly like the TiT one
@ChiptunedRaijin7 жыл бұрын
Orchestra Hit comes from the Arcade game. There's no reason the Genesis can't play Orchestra Hits, especially if it's just a sample. Programming a good FM Orchestra Hit though... That's the real challenge.
@SonicTheJackrabbit9 жыл бұрын
How did you rip the PCM samples from the arcade game? When I tried it with my vgm player, I couldn't disable a single channel from the Konami PCM chip's output.
@ChiptunedRaijin9 жыл бұрын
Patch93 You could either use Hoot and disable all but the channels you want, use VGMPlay and go into the .ini file to select which channels you want disabled, or do what I did and import the Arcade ROM files into an audio editor and rip the raw samples.It is also possible to import the VGM files into an audio editor as well to rip the samples that way.
