I’m still forever grateful for the writers not turning this into Apritello 2.0, but making Aprilnardo cute and funny together. That’s how healthy ships should be, keeping boundaries and the chemistry instead of making it a creepy unrequited obsession or not giving it proper development like TMNT 2012. (This is coming from a Apritello shipper growing up. 💀) Although I definitely love April as more “found family” in ost incarnations and I don’t usually tap into the Aprilnardo ship in general for most TMNT adaptations, Mutant Mayhem did a pretty good job. I’m happy about it. 👏💖

You said what I was thinking and thank you for that. Leo isn’t creepy, but is respectful of April and I like the relatable awkwardness he has around her. Unlike TMNT 2012 where Donnie played the part of borderline stalker and incessantly tried to get April’s attention, MM Leo didn’t push subjects and liked April for more than her outward beauty. This movie captured teenage crushes in such an immaculate way.

I personally don’t mind the boys crushing on April. She is the first girl they interact with. It’s weird when they actually keep it going though. I just think April doesn’t suit the boys and vice versa. She always feels like an aunt or sister depending on her age. I watched 1987 for first time last year and I think they have handled human crushes better in that cartoon than in most tmnt stuff. Leo and Lotus.
