That's how all security companies are like even here in the UK they don't care about guards you are just a number to them

Security can fight back. Its one of the only two times a security guard can employ force (a level 1 guard anyway, which is the vast majority of them), the other being to stop a violent felony. I know this, becuase I have been one for over 5 years, between level 1 and 2 (chem spray and batons). In this case, from what I've found, it looks like they tried to steal his car, and he chased after them. He was in the right stopping the theft, as that would be grand theft, but that is where it ends. He should have let them run, not chased after them. That is where he fucked up. At least from what I've been able to piece together, and I was initially very much on his side.
