(The reason why I didn’t add this section to the video is because it isn’t really a criticism of The Nightly Manor, it’s really just me talking about the idea of part five’s Spraypaint and Mouse in the manor scene being planned from the very start. It didn’t feel very on-topic for the video). If the Mouse and Spraypaint in the manor scene from chapter 5 was ALWAYS meant to be canon, and the writers just purposefully didn’t add it to the episode because they wanted to show that it happened in chapter two just for the sake of revealing it, then that is just straight up terrible writing. Chapter one was already terribly paced, and it gains NOTHING from not having part five’s Spraypaint and Mouse scene in it. It gives the story a chance to slow down, and feel more natural instead of going at the speed of light. But more importantly, it allows the characters to have a meaningful moment for once. The clear abundance of fast pacing and lack of meaningful character moments is what hurt chapter one so dearly for me. There is NO point in NOT having a scene that helps out the pacing. If that scene was ALWAYS meant to be canon to chapter one from the very start, then who’s to say that another pair of characters, for instance, Tophat and GPS didn’t have a meaningful moment together? I frankly would LOVE to have seen that! It would have been HIGHLY enjoyable and beneficial to the episode! But nope, I guess… they just felt like cutting past that moment for no reason! We’ll arbitrarily be shown it in a future episode! If this is the case, and they’re actually going out of their way to remove important scenes from chapter one just to show them later in the series for no reason, then it really would reinforce how poorly chapter one was executed. What does the series even gain from showing from hiding important scenes away from us? If it was to hide some sort of plot twist, I would understand it better, but this is just a genuinely nice moment that feels completely juxtaposing from the rest of the chapter. What I’m essentially saying is that if this scene was always meant to be canon since this series was first written, then that means chapter one could be in an incomplete state. I hate the idea of always asking “WhAt iF ThErE’s A ScEnE tHaT wE wErEn’T sHoWn?!” because it shows that the way the show is currently being presented is overly convoluted.

It would be cool if we can see sketchpad’s backstory. Here’s a little bit of what I think it’s gonna be/can be: Sketchpad was trying desperately to find a job, then the leader of the detective agency found him trying to chase a bad guy or whatever, but his legs were too small and he couldn’t catch up to them in time. The agency found it impressive and decided to hire him. But he constantly lets them down, but they respect his his bravery and courage, and how he always tries his best. But they slowly start losing their trust, yet still keeps on getting him second chances.

It would be cool to see speaker be like a brother figure to sketch pad in the next episode

I really did like this episode. The ending part with Spray paint's reveal being alive blew my mind! I loved the world building and seeing the characters being fleshed out. Something's I noticed after re-watching the episode were characters like Card, Lazy, and Domino being references to the pictures in Object Manor. Also when Puzzle said a couple crashed their car, one of them being Green, and the other being short and armless is probably hinting towards GPS and Top Hat. A few moments after the intro, you can hear a faint heart monitor noise. The next episode will probably come out next year, and I'm guessing it will be GPS centered since we really don't know much out him and his relationship with Top Hat.

I like how he was complaining about the fact that Spraypaint and Mouse had the least amount of development, meanwhile Ring died first with barley any screen time and no one knew anything about her until they made the sone called “Embers”

I just realized the two lights in the end are representing mouse and spray paint, ones turned off and the other is flickering. The one turned off is mouse because there died. And the one flickering is spray paint because he's in a hospital bed

I feel like Sketch Pad's character is not fully fleshed out in a lot of points in the story. The fact a lot of 4-wall breaking happens (at the start), to his reactions to finding others dead makes Sketch Pad's character feel flat, plus his design makes him feel out of place next to the other character.

just about the sketchpad part, sketchpads sillyness isn't random, it comes from him being in TDOS where the world is more sillier than the real one, as he gets thrown into the snowy forest, (In embers), he most likely stumbles apon speaker, helping eachother get out of the wild fire, and most likely becoming friends. Sketchpad only realizes that the world isn't so silly is when his recovery center fails in part 4, realizing that this is the real world, and not some reality show. He does seem to take notice of this during part 1-2, but his sillyness is ruined during part 4. sorry for the nerdy stuff or smth 😭

Not really related to the critique, but I love how every character was sort of involved in this episode. the case that jigsaw was covering could've been GPS and Tophat (The green one was teaching the short, armless one how to drive). Even if it's tiny, i love all the expansion on all of them even if it's a tiny detail

I agree with all the points you said. The episode was absolutely BEAUTIFUL, and the reveal was very shocking, though that we’d never actually get to see them again in the future after that.

I hope ring is in the spotlight next episode, she got like 2 lines and a couple aperences.

As always, you did a very good job with your criticisms! I see too many channels that just love to make some series and movies looks as bad as possible just because they personally don't like them (* coff coff * YMS * coff coff *) or that brings up ONLY the bad or good things about something, but you always talks about everything in the most impartial way as possible. And yes, I agree with what you said in this video: while this episode was really amazing and the backgrounds expecially were super detailed and well done, that retcon was... eh.... a bit out of place, to say the least. Imho the TNM crew should focus only on the future from now on, because, in order to "fix" the first chapter, the only way would be to remake the first chapter from 0 and I don't think there's really a need for that at the moment. Also, while TNM is NOT my favourite OS, I think it's safe to say that it's the most visually beautiful OS out there, expecially because of the colours, lights and shots, that looks VERY professional. Oh... not everyone knows that, but Allenimations, in his server, was asked if GPS and TopHat were a gay couple and he said they were, so I hope that the TNM crew will develop a little bit more this concept and make us seen a few more interactions between them before the events happened in Chapter 1. PS: yes, you pronounced my name correctly! I also found it funny that you say it's a cool name, because it just mean "redwood" in Italian lol

this was a great episode, and you did a great job reviewing it. personally my biggest problem with this is that speaker knew mouse and spray paint already, and you think that in chapter one he would recognize to two, but he doesn't.

Excited to see which characters part 6 will focus on. The main focus of embers is ring but speaker and sketchpad pop up, and the other slice of strife points link to who the episode is about. Groceries shows folder and sketchpad leading up to part 4 being sketchpad and tophat, than the drinks shows the bar refrencing how part 5 will be spray and mouse. So could this last one be ring, sketchpad again, and speaker?

With the new short released.We get some more insight on Ring.We learn thst while camping,her mother died from a fallen tree due to a forest fire.And the museum looked liked it was on fire.And them we see sketchpad in a crater,presumably causing the fire.What does this mean though. Is he from another world,an alien?Who knows,but we still have one more episode to explain all of this and chapter 1.

It kinda feels like Chapter 1 needs to be remade...it really seems like there are several things that hadn't been figured out yet in the story by the time it was made. Like it does create this really cool feeling where its so much more depressing to learn about backstories knowing the characters are going to die but it makes chapter one just feel odd... Its writing isn't nearly as good as either episode 4 or 5 and nothing really has much of an impact since we don't know any of the characters yet. I think ideally chapter 1 should have been expanded. Although some parts should definitely be removed(almost any of sketchpad's jokes after people start dying or ANY OF THE ONES INVOLVING OTHER OBJECT SHOWS. And I say this as someone who likes sketchpad.) Some more time to develop certain pairs like Speaker and Sketchpad, characters making decisions that make more sense like Speaker's interactions with Spray and Mouse as well as his reaction to Ring now that we have Embers linking the two. I'm sure they could have had characters interact a little more and show SOME personality before starting to just kill them but as is we get almost nothing! The only characters I would say we get a clear idea of some personality from before the deaths are Sketchpad and Speaker. Mouse, Ring, GPS, and Tophat all have almost no personality throughout the whole thing. I really do hope this show keeps getting better cause some of its writing is amazing and it has amazing potential but as stated in the video there are some pretty big flaws even with what's probably the best episode yet. I also do really hope the first chapter is remade eventually.
