My pet peeve word is Organic which essentially means nothing anymore except that if they slap it on a product, they can charge way more for it. My take on things is that, if you're not growing or raising something yourself, you'll never know what you're really getting.

Organic food is more expensive because it's actually a regulated term in the US. unlike these other words, it does actually mean something. it's not perfect, but it's as close to choice as we have.

In order to legally call something organic in the US, it needs to be certified as such by the USDA. Some of the qualifications for the certification are bullshit, but it’s one of the only words that actually means something.

This video was spot on for today. I've eliminated all junk food and fast food from my diet over the last week. Today I had bread for the first time since I started dieting and exercise. A fried egg sandwich. No spice, no extras. Just egg and toasted bread. I was amazed at how sweet the bread tasted. Junk food straight up desensitizes your taste buds.

I've recently been watching reactions by Irish, British, New Zelanders, etc.,on American foods. They all comment that when comparing foods to the same product and brand sold in their locations; how artificial it tasts, salty, sugary, and even disgusting, the American version is. They also compared ingredients from both locations, on exactly the same products. American versions contain so many more ingredients that cannot even be pronounced.(Biggest comparison is with McDonalds foods)

That's because most other countries outlaw the chemicals and dyes used because they've been proven to cause health issues. My stepmom is from Sweden, she told me blue dyes were illegal because they cause behavioral issues and brain damage. In the middle east, fluoride isn't allowed in water because it's poisonous, yet over here its promoted as healthy. There's a reason the elderly need dentures.

When you walk into a grocery store, stay out of the aisles. Walk around the periphery; produce, bakery, dairy, butchery are located there. Those sections allow you to see what you're buying vs. something locked in a can full of preservatives. I only venture into the aisles to get flour, sugar, and baking stuff.

How about going to a “Health” food store? First of all the prices are outrageous, and they push all these vitamins and minerals on you, almost none of which have been shown to have any beneficial effects for your body. None have been approved by the FDA for the benefits that these items claim to help you with. I always tell people that if you eat a well balanced diet, low in bad carbs, and high in protein, lots of fruits and vegetables and plenty of water then you don’t need to take anything else. Looking forward to part 2. ❤️😃
@gbulmer
@gbulmer Жыл бұрын
I mostly agree with your criticism of Health Food Stores. Especially the outrageous prices. Any of the stuff which has benefits is probably available, and cheaper, in a supermarket or pharmacist. I agree with you on eating a well balanced diet, except i don't know what you mean by "bad carbs". However, I quibble with your assertion about vitamins and minerals. Vitamins, by definition are essential nutrients. There are vitamins and minerals which have profound benefits to our bodies, have been proven to be essential, and yet significant fractions of the general population of some countries are seriously deficient. Vitamin D is an obvious example. A well balanced diet contributes very little vitamin D unless the national government is deliberately fortifying some of the food. Vitamin D is made by sunlight on our skin. In countries far North or South of the equator, sunlight is too weak most of the year, to make enough vitamin D. Further, the standard 'multi-vitamin' supplements available in the UK provide about 1/5th the recognised 'correct' dose for an average adult. So, a lot of people who are taking a vitamin supplement are getting too little. For an indication of how bad vitamin D deficiency is, look at the recent Republic of Ireland report (April 2021). Search for "Report on addressing Vitamin D deficiency as a public health measure in Ireland", your looking for an Eire web site called "oireachtas". That considers giving free vitamin D supplements to some groups, fortifying food, and removing tax from vitamin D supplements. We are almost certainly agreeing on everything else. Best Wishes. ☮

The Pandora's Box of awakening to food facts is the fact of how much of "food" is sprayed with a fungicide containing mercury, HFCS being the worst offender. That's why people that consume high amounts of soda and energy drinks are prone to depression, because the mercury is causing it, that fungicide is also sprayed on most food stored in silos which means grains. The longer the shelf life the shorter the consumer.

But the commercials pitched it as kids not wanting to drink their orange juice, but then mom gets the kids Sunny D and now they love “orange juice”. Same thing with Kraft Mac n cheese. It’s just a bunch of chemicals made to taste like cheese and they market it as mom’s best friend cause the kids will eat it and she’s not slaving in front of a stove for hours. We know it’s bad for us, but we let corporations BS us into buying them anyways. SMH

Advertising takes advantage of and/or creates fads, and then sells replacements or upsells already existing products. When cholesterol started becoming an issue (tragically, a few years after my dad died of atherosclerosis) I remember seeing "cholesterol free' on everything, including peanut butter. Eggs were bad, then butter was bad (but they would sell egg whites & margarine- solid butter flavored vegetable oil). Milk was bad (they started selling almond milk), then chicken/beef/pork were bad (free range, cruelty free, grass fed) Organic/non-Genetically Modified Organism- everything carbon-based is organic, and everything that lives has been, by dint of evolution, either naturally and/or artificially genetically modified, and was certainly naturally modified first. ...screw it, I'm having some Doritos...

Buy a loaf of bread at a bakery anywhere in Europe and you know you can keep it for about three days before mold sets in. When I was on a three month trip in New York I bought a loaf of bread in a small shop and when I looked at the conservation date it said the bread was good for four fekkin weeks. What? America doesn't have the same laws and rules about what is allowed into food. Most of the "E" products we banned in Europe are still allowed in the USA. Artificial and real sugars, conservation agents, colour agents. All poison, but you can find 'em in American foods and sweets. Makes food look and taste better, but it'll kill you that much faster.
