My only regret is that I didn't know how much I loved the 82nd, and how great it was to be there, when I was there.

Abe was my platoon sergeant. One of the best soldiers/person I’ve ever met. I was a panther for 6 years and when I was leaving he said, “ you are going to miss this place”. He was right. I went on to my next duty station and got out and now I dream of being a paratrooper again. It was the highlight of my life and I hope that when I die, I get to jump in heaven.

Being a Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne, was the best choice of my military career. Even at the young age of 64 years old, lol, it gives me a sense of pride, and accomplishment. Very proud to have served. Best way to start a military career is to go Airborne. It most definitely will open the doors if you wish to continue to Ranger school or Special Forces.

The paratroopers of the 40s 50s 60s and 70s. Our airborne school was tough. They beat the shit out of us. Nowadays I hear kids say how easy airborne school is. A beret was something earned not given. Is a totally different armed forces Nowadays.

@@wadethoms650 absolutely that's why the confederate army never gave any medals. They would say medals were only awarded to the dead. Like the old military saying, the only heroes are those who never came back. Nowadays they want to make the national guard seem like they are green berets, they want to make women , gays, lesbians and transgenders, like real men. Women Rangers, is all bullshit. In the jungles we carried the m60 machine gun with ammo extra ammo can food binoculars gas mask, grenades, smoke grenades, claymore mines, prc 77 radio, water, plus or heavy 85/100 pound rucksacks, the mortars plt. Carried the mortars, sight, base plate, legs , and ammo. Plus being chased by the enemy. Those fake women Rangers wouldn't walked 6 hour's in the Virginia jungles, we cut are way through. Accomplishing 10 miles every 20 straight hour's. Afghanistan is not vietnam, the deserts are not the jungles, the taliban are not the battle harden North Vietnamese army.

It really irritates me to see these officers wearing the beret wrong. They have been taught how to correctly wear it, they choose to do it thier own way. 1st Sergeant Erik Salo wears it wrong. He has it crooked on his head and he has it covering his right eye. He wears it crooked just so he can pull it down over his eye, but this goes against policy and training. Sergeant First Class Chris Abrahamson wears his correctly, and his appearance is more professional because he wears it properly.
