Lots of close reading of language, structure, form with thematic insights, so make sure you watch the whole thing to get a thorough understanding of the speech!

Hey Jen! Great analysis :) Could you make a video on the ELAT?

Thanks for watching Michael - I'm glad you enjoyed it. The ELAT is very specific, but it's basically an unseen close reading exercise :) I have videos on how to tackle unseen poems and prose, but there's more to come and I'll definitely consider doing one on the ELAT!

@@JenChan The entrancing factor of Hamlet was that he was ahead of others. Whilst the court was too preoccupied with their struggles of power over the lives of each other, Hamlet had the mental clarity to recognize the futility of their ambitions and gain knowledge of himself. Yet, knowledge kills action. To be ahead of others is not enough. Action requires to be ahead of oneself, to be ahead of consciousness itself. And that's what Ophelia embodies, the epitome of enlightenment. Because it is through the veil of illusion- madness- that the absurdity of existence itself is revealed to him. I find that Ophelia is as worthy of attention as is Hamlet himself- as they parallel each other!

very helpful, thank you. does the soliloquy suggest Hamlet believes in the continuity of consciousness, or just that he does not know...
