Being emotionally detached makes you get rid of unnecessary things easier. At least start by getting rid of what you don't want & like. Eventually it becomes so easy to throw things out.

I think it is also important to remember not to get caught up in decluttering too much right away. I know I am tempted to just purge everything and be as minimalist as possible. But keeping and really using items you have already purchased keeps you from buying more. The items you own are already in circulation so finding new ways to love them and use them is also eco-conscious.
@mrzkking33915 жыл бұрын
That is hard with my OCD because if something from a set is misplaced or trashed, I have to purge the entire set. I do it the most with dishes and decor. I am also a counter, cannot not stand "what if" or "maybe" items. The only maybe or what if items I have are my job interview outfit, the "little black dress" and a few healthcare items.

For me personally I made the choice that it's okay to pay a bit more for a piece, if it is of high quality! But I am only willing to pay (more) for quality/sustainability and NOT for the famous name of a brand. That's an imortant difference. I'd rather pay for a handmade pair of shoes from a local manufacturer than pay a maybe even higher amount for some Michael Kors or Gucci. And by the way: Signe, do you have any favorite german brands? XO

I think it’s important, too, to analyze and learn from one’s decluttering, not just to chuck things out. Why an item didn’t work is the most important thing. It helps me to write down these findings, for example: bad fit, hate fabric, uncomfortable, color wrong, too dated or just not timeless, unflattering, low quality, etc. And my really big one - too dressy for my real lifestyle!
@RevDiscarnateEntity Жыл бұрын

Hi, Signe. I really needed this tips now that I'm about to do the seasonal cleaning. I've been purging my wardrobe for around a year and replacing my fast fashion stuff with second hand better quality items. For me, the biggest trouble has been the guilt of letting go pieces that I bought out of impulse and I don't really like.
@EmmaAppleBerry6 жыл бұрын
That is hard but once you realise the damage was done the moment you bought it as in you wont get that money back nor the time and energy you spent purchasing it and now its completely yours do with what you will. So keeping it isnt going to somehow get your moneys worth out of it if you dont truly love or use it. So youd be better off donating it or giving it to a friend who will use it and that way at least you'll be helping someone else and prevent them from having to add demand to the market for new clothes especially fast fashion ones. If you sell them then either put the money in a rainy day jar to not touch under any circumstances unless its like super emergency stuff or invest in more sustainable items so that you wont have to go shopping to replace them and fall into impulse buying etc if you dont see it you wont want it. Or if you have an item you really love that might not fit to flatter you or perhaps needs to be mended you could buy a small sewing kit or use that money to take those clothes to a seamstress or tailor so you can wear them.
@pegsbarton63535 жыл бұрын
@@EmmaAppleBerry Also you can do swaps with your friends, if they have stuff that is not right for them but would suit your own style. It can make for a fun evening to get together and try stuff on, even make up and perfumes. Everyone can go home with new things and stuff isn't wasted. Also try using something in a different way, making a dress into a blouse or a tunic is reasonably simple and may make it more useful to use. Trousers into capris or shorts, jumpers into cushion covers or bags...think outside the box, if you like the fabric but not the style, how COULD it be useful to you. I like adding vintage lace to things to personalise them or beadwork or buttons. It also means you are not going to meet someone wearing the same thing as you, your stuff becomes singular and different. And it's fun to do.

This video was great!! 😍 Though I did not declutter much at all, I saw my wardrobe in a completely new way!! I watched the find your own personal style video before this, then after watching both got straight to work in my closet! I was able to see that I mainly wear lounge items more than anything else due to my from anywhere/ at home job so I need to make sure my favorite lounge items get put together with other items that I love that happen to typically be other people's everyday wear! After separating everything into categories of all year basics/ everyday wear, seasonals to store away, occasion wear and lounge/ sportswear/ everything else... I felt like I had way more to wear/ choose from even with my winter seasonal items completely taken out! I also found that my core style is casual/sporty/loungewear with secondary styles of classic feminine/ flirty chic, boho chic and a slight military/grunge/hipster. Everything is a full majority of black, white and grey with a few different shades of darker greens and dark and lighter blues. I also had a few light pinks as well! I can't wait to see what I wear in the next upcoming few months and then be a bit more brutal on what I decide to purge later! Thank you so much for your videos I truly feel like these are the only ones that have helped me narrow down what I actually wear... to where/for what occasion. 🙏🙌

To declutter, I'll just throw everything from each type of clothing on my bed, try the things on if I'm unsure and sort in keeping, donating, recycling and throwing away. If something just doesn't fit anymore, I'll donate it, if it still fits but kinda doesn't look good, I recycle it into something new and if it's broken, I'll throw it away. That way I don't waste too many old clothes while staying organized

Your tip about keeping trendy items is very timely for me! I am currently upset with myself for getting rid of a pair of dark purple lace up boots that I really could have used in my current capsule! I usually buy things second hand to save the environment so I find it too easy to give away things that I might like down the road but I am not currently using. I will hold on to them from now on if I still like them to see if they are usable in the future. Great tip!

I have done the same mistake many times, but I try to think it that way, that maybe there were some reason I did it. It's easy to remember how nice the item looked, but then I often remember that the fit or the colour or something was always wrong with it. Many times when I have gave away piece that was nice, but not "perfect", I have found the perfect one just right after 🙂

Decluttering isn't an option for those of us who like to experiment with colors, patterns and layering. You need 1) a particular item 2) in a certain color/hue and 3) exact length/hemline and 4) with particular details (sleeve style, etc). For example, this week I took a pair of jeggings (quiet tones of black & amber in a brocade pattern), added a cropped charcoal black blouse with "tuxedo" cut hi-lo hemline as an open jacket. A hi-lo ivory/cream sleeveless silk shell with a ruffled-edged scooped neckline was worn under the charcoal jacket. The hi-lo hemline of the shell is about 2" longer than the charcoal hi-lo "jacket" blouse all around. Even though I own at least 20 silk shells in the white, cream, ivory, beige hues, ONLY one really worked for what I wanted. Creative ensembles are much more difficult to pull together from limited options.

Even so, almost everyone has items that no longer fit you, structure or color is worn. Item has holes or stains, no longer brings you joy, etc

your hair is beautiful, I love the color. Do you lighten it yourself? If so what colors, brands, & process do you use?

How do you store your heavier coats for warmer months? I have limited space and have such a hard time with this!

I'm just in a cloths clutter mess. I am still having issues...either it's a memory to it or someone special gave it to me. I did cut some up in the past and started a memory blanket...rag blanket...but I have not finished...

How do you find a cobbler or leather worker to fix things in California? I can only find retail stores, and they don't want me fixing things.

I feel like my issue is that I don't have alot of variety in my wardrobe. I buy alot of the same item. Then I find myself stuck. I also struggle to dress my inverted (slightly more curvy body). Lol I find your videos soothing, watching them when I get reaDY

That's OK! If you know what works and what you like, you don't need variety. That idea actually come from the fashion industry to sell us more clothes!

I’m going to declute* my entire wardrobe of 8 years because I am turning 18 and going to be moving... I am lowkey afraid of getting rid of something and then wanting to wear it like a month later and that’s one of the reasons why I have a hard time getting rid of stuff.

Even though I am a veteran at this, I still love love watching these videos, I enjoy watching the process of decluttering!

Hi Erin! I live in states but wanted to know about a cashmere brush you have mentioned. What is the difference in a regular de-pill device or sweater /lint brush? Thanks!🤔🤔

There are many components to ways to de-clutter fast . One plan I discovered which succeeds in merging these is the Nilah declutter tips (google it if you're interested) it's the most useful guide that I've seen.Check out the interesting information .

Practical and useful...and realistic. Thanks. But those wire, dry cleaner free coathangers are a no no. The majority of clothes are damaged by them, or slip off, or are stretched on the shoulder.

About all that declutter I am always wondering if it is really neccessary to give away things. I have a real trouble to find good way in choosing "what to store" , "what to give away". You have your speical boxes in closet for storing, but it is not only for seasonal itmes, right? It could be good to have some clarity how or what to store if you really dont want to give away specific piece but you don't use it so much as it should be;)

Patrycja JT I have linked a blogpost with a closet tour in the description box - but really I try to just keep winter and summer/spring items parted. Other than that it’s quite mixed 😘😘

Another little tip I’d like to add is, you may like the design but you may not like the way it looks on your body. Me personally, I have a very large chest that I’m not entirely comfortable with showing off, I have this t-shirt and I absolutely love the design but I feel like it shows my breasts too much. So if you’re stumped on an item try it on!
