Not the best show, but just more proof the 70s were the golden age of game shows. So much variety, so many different concepts that were given a chance. I wish modern TV execs were so willing to try new things.

This was Tom Kennedy's 51st birthday. He's now had 93! Soupy Sales, Rita Moreno & Elaine Joyce appear as celebs along w/ Alex Trebek. Since Tom mentions that the show's "starting a new week", and Tom's birthday is Feb. 26, this was probably originally aired Monday, Feb. 27, 1978.

I have heard of this show before and thought I've seen every single game show from the 70's or 80's but NEVER saw this before. Cool concept but it didn't last long IIRC--a few months? Tom Kennedy as always, did a good job hosting, and it was wild to see a young Alex Trebek (just 37 years old at the time).

When this was aired in year round first-run on the week of March 6-10, 1978 on NBC daytime, I did not get the opportunity to watch this episode because I was at Mulhall Primary School at Mulhall Street in El Monte, CA, a little over a month shy of my public and permanent church school at Bella Vista North (pre-Meher Montessori School) at 2009 S. Garfield Avenue in Monterey Park, CA 91754 and remaining there until moving to 7008 Wheeler Avenue in La Verne, CA 91750.
@gamesgalore42184 жыл бұрын
By process of elimination, it aired on 6 March 1978. Ken came on the show on 1 March 1978, and Tom Kennedy said that the previous episode was last Friday, meaning that the show has to have been aired on a Monday.

That becomes mildly ironic when you consider that, during Donnymid's run, they had a J! category where the clues were Pyramid clues given by a member of the Clue Crew sitting in the Winners' Circle.

Man, this is bad. It is incredibly slow. Takes too long just to eliminate words; no action. Would never work now.

Actually, it can. Remember we have faster tech these days. You could have black boxes to denote where the eliminated words would go, plus the words would be dropped automatically.

The concept is not terrible, but the bonus game is a joke. It is nearly impossible to win and just disappointing most of the time.

@@4jp IKR, the 70's and *80's had so many game shows. I don't remember this. It is painful to watch.
@ajk4 жыл бұрын
@@4jp I actually thought the bonus game was flawed. I don't like the idea of allowing the contestant to go to the next stage without getting a celeb to answer correctly on previous one. Remember, the format as it is here allows 2 shots at the jackpot. I don't think that shoulda been if there was a miss somewhere along the way. Rule IMO ought to have been you only progress to next stage with a right answer, and then of course 2 means you lose the chance at the jackpot that time around. There should be some consequence to mistakes, and unless they actually changed it at some point to make it to where there were, there was none.
@MyGuyJustinH Жыл бұрын
I think this game show could work today, if they do it right.
