I've just watched the original sand dance, this is a true homage to it. Harry Peacock is a hugely underated actor. Check out "Preet" from "bad education".

The best part about the comments, is that during this episode of "Toast of London", there is a running gag about how Toast *literally* does not understand the concept of a joke.

@GoodOne9175 жыл бұрын
Its kinda not mocking the sand dance. Its doing a very slept on honor. They have this old performance called the sand dance. Very few ppl can say they've done it let alone at that theatre. So many performers would be proud to do that. I'm American tho so I could be wrong.
@rw8733 Жыл бұрын
Wilson, Keppel, and Betty did this best. 😊

So I see from comments that this was from a show called Toast of London. Does anyone know what year this is from and whether the whole show can be viewed online? I am doing historical research on the original Wilson, Betty, and Keppel, and would love to better understand this reenactment.
@debbystardust4 жыл бұрын
Matthew Olwell the show is on Netflix. I think there’s a lot of allusion to British theater culture in the 1970’s, but I’m not sure that viewing the show will help your research. Toast is an actor reluctantly coerced by his manager into performing at a charity event at an old theater in London. She says, “Why don’t you and Ray Purchase do the sand dance?” and that’s about it.

What makes this great? It is these two british guys as white as snow skinny legs and arms about as far from Egyptians as you can imagine doing this dance that is a mockery of what Egyptian dance would be,turning it into a typical English show dance without the straw hats canes and spats. It's like that song walk like an Egyptian. Of course they look like they are trying hard but are very awkward while looking serious. To me it is kind of like how the British destroyed the cultures they conquered replacing it with a cartoon version that the audience was acting as though they were watching a faithful reenactment of something. In other words it's perfect.
