Claudia let’s get Jordan on the podcast!! I did this same deep dive back when Diane Sawyer’s special came out. So so sad - their story insane. Parents like that deserve LIFE in prison without chance of parole.

Hey Claud and Jax, I have to say I LOVED the first part of this episode. I’m a VA toaster who works for Social Services, specifically in Foster Care, and because I live in that space every day I often forget how little the world truly knows about the system. Thank you for bringing light to this and for lightening my day with the toast each morning. Jackie, I also had my first baby in February, and I’m so enjoying hearing about your day to day while going through many of the same things in my home.

Claudia’s story telling was on point! My bf is not a regular toaster & he stopped watching EPSN to listen in & was so intrigued! It was the very first time I ever heard of this story & im from California. Glad you girls are bringing awareness to their situation.

Thank you for covering this story, I am therapist in California who works with child welfare. The program for foster youth going into adulthood (18 years old) means well but often fails youth time after time.

One cool true crime that did make change was “In our own backyard” about the Kristen Smart case in the 90s. It was a cold case until he started the podcast and basically did further investigating. Now there are two people on trial! So I totally agree with Claudia about how it’s weird to monetize other people’s misery, but sometimes it can help.

Stories of abuse, especially of children are so incredibly hard to hear. I obviously have ALWAYS been against abuse (obviously), but since having my own two children.. I can’t even fathom it, my brain literally cannot compute it, my children are my life and I would do anything in the world for them.

Ps not to be corny but just the humanity that the girls emoted while talking about the Turpins - I know this is a pop culture podcast but it gave me the same feeling when Claudia recapped Maid on Netflix. It is special to tune into humanity from their perspective. I mean that with all sincerity 💕

I actually knew about the Turpins but honestly listening to Claudia summarize their story just gave me such joy and pride and I TOTALLY agree w Jackie - Claud summarized it like a literal pro. PS PLEASE watch the ABC News 20/20 episode about it. 20/20 is chefs kiss reporting.

An occasional true crime segment would not be a bad idea! I knew about the Turpin kids case but also followed Gabby Petito, Kaitlin Armstrong, and lately, Kiely Rodni (missing girl in Tahoe), and the Kristin Smart case (the killer and his dad on trial now).

I saw somewhere where they say the Turpin "mother" only seemed to care for her kids while very young, when they are depending on her. I think that's why the infant was the only one who was nourished and "normal" when rescued.
