Today we buy a RX 6600 graphics card, which is a great gaming card, BUT we pair it with an older prebuilt that is incredibly cheap! We then try the same card in a brand new gaming system that we built for as cheap as possible to see what the price Vs. performance differences are!

Guys, love your videos. I’m very curious how much difference you’d notice with the games on the optiplex installed on an SSD. Cool video concept, not just comparing a PC at the same price point (which would obviously lose). I personally buy these 7040 MTs because they are one of the few DDR4 RAM motherboards dell makes but I only use 1050 Ti's in them because of heat. When I want to do a little more upgrading I use a Dell Precision 3620 which offers a little more room and pretty much the same internals. It's a lot easier to upgrade the PSU, GPU and other parts as well as having a few more vent holes for heat. Love seeing videos with these Dells though. Cheers.

Got two Optiplexs'. Both 9020s. One is a MT with an i7 4790 3.6 ghz. The other is a SFF i7 4770 a 3.4 ghz. The MT sports an RTX 2060. (Yes, I replaced the PS, A Corsair CX 750m and with an adapter for the non-standard power connector on the Dell mb.) The SFF sports an RTX A2000. They're both great. Much as I like the SFF PC, the MT stays cooler and can actually boost to 100%CPU without going over 80c. (No, the SFF will start thermal throttle if running up the cores to 100%. But you'll probably never notice gaming.) Yeah, if paying attention and looking for it both 9020s will "lag spike" every once in a while, loading . . . something or other. Many people might never notice. If I told you you were gaming on my Ryzen 9 PC instead of the Optiplex many people would probably believe it. I've been using the Opti's quite a bit more than my Ryzen 9 because the Optiplexs' are on a large TV. Yeah, these are for chilling out with 8bitdo Pro2 controllers. (Get a8bitdo's branded wireless dongle AND someone else's bluetooth 4.0 dongle. PRESTO. You like more than one wireless controller?) And trusty Logitech k400s. You bet, reclining and gaming is awesome. These Optiplexs' can do more, but ALL I need them to be able to do a solid 1080p 60 FPS. That's what the TV likes, and the Optis' do it well. The i7 4790 makes a difference by the way. Guess what. It boosts and STAYS boosted. (Don't ask me. I thought these had that boost timer nonsense.) Yeah, we'll get back to you one of these days, Ryzen 9. Better posture sitting up at a desk is good, right? I know I'm glad I decided to stick something that can game on the TV! Excuse me while I recline! PC speaker? Nahh. How about Dynaudio speakers on a home stereo. Boom boom!

I just built a budget PC for a friend. Requested something that could play at 1080p low 60+ fps for as close to $200 as possible. Opted for an Inspiron with an i5 8500, older Corsair power supply (original unit was only 230W and had no PCIe power), came with 16GB dual channel RAM, added a 500GB SATA SSD I had laying around, and an HP OEM GTX 1650 Super. Came out to about $180 total. I love the budget builds you guys do! It's given me the ability to help others get into it that think the barrier to entry is too high. Hoping to start selling some budget builds in my local area, seems a lot of people are interested in PC gaming, but too many of them think you have to drop $1000 to get a decent gaming computer.

You cannot beat the right Optiplex. I got a 3010 MT which is able to house a mATX motherboard. I bought the optiplex from a blind charity for $50, which got me a case, front USB, cd drive, and a WD500gb. I threw in a PSU, b450, R5 1600af, and rx 570 for about $300 all in all and it worked so great, no issues except rewiring the Dell power button to work on a normal motherboard. I got bored fo gaming and eventually swapped to just a 5700G in a custom case made of aluminum pans for small form factor and now I am now on a new mini pc powered by USB c pd battery kick, because I love small form factor, and lower wattage with the APU, plus dont game and travel a lot. I essentially pulled all of the e-waste from the optiplex and recycled the case, because $50 is a good entry case and pays for itself since I got to keep windows and no one wanted to buy it for $30 on craigslist lol.

Indeed. I needed to go from sff elitedesk 820 G2 to mini tower ATX and after watching this video i picked barebone 7040mt for the exact same graphics card.. I still wanted to retain 2 Sata drives but with stock PSU it was impossible. Upgraded PSU to Corsair SF600. Then it turned out there was not enough clearance for GPU with 8 pin connector. Yes I could close case but it worried me it was pushing down on GPU power connector and cables so tight. I had to drill additional hole for PSU to secure it and bump up with hammer part of metal case that was closing on GPU. Took me a whole day with lot of work. Honestly I thought I would had been better off buying regular ATX with standard ATX power supply but wasn't sure if the case would be compatible for mounting and connections.

Interesting it seemed in a quote a few games the optiplex didn't appear to be CPU bottlenecked. Wonder if it was slower ram speed holding it back ? Unfortunately nothing that can be sorted as the old optiplex wouldn't run faster ram. I think the optiplex is really good if you're going with a lower end GPU, eg. a 2nd hand gtx 1070. Then the differences in performance between the new and optiplex build will be even less. Have you considered the ryzen 5 5500 and a b450 (with a bios update) or b550 motherboard as a good budget option to rival the 12100 ?

Back in 2010 as a poor grad student, I bought a used Dell desktop from the Dell Outlet online for about $300. Literally just added more RAM. Solid gaming and even managed to do some streaming at the same time. Ran with it for 5+ years. Was it old by then? Yes. But totally worth it on a budget. I highly recommend this method (adding a rx6600/rtx3050 maybe) if you want some good 1080p gaming! Enjoy it.

@TomBabula Жыл бұрын
@@darbmann better option would be just to get SF series 500-600 Corsair PSU, you just need to drill extra hole.the issue would not a whole lot of room for cables especially SATA. And regardless of PSU, the case will press hard on gpu connector plug and cables which IMO is bad. So you want to cut off a part of the case with Dremel or just better go with different PC build.

If you're interested in gaming only and nothing else than I think spending the extra to have an upgrade path is worth it. On the flip side, if you're just starting out and want to go deeper into becoming an enthusiast, I think it makes the most sense to start in the optiplex, run it while you save up for the rest of the build, transplant whatever GPU you got into a better rig and now you have a spare computer to run as a plex/game server.

@DOGS LOL I think it depends a lot on what you put into each build, what your performance requirements are, what the environmental variables are, what the running conditions are like, and what compromise you're making between performance & build quality. Dells are great build quality for the price because they manufacture at scale for clients with large orders who need reliability more than they need top of the line performance & neither side wants to be dealing with downtime & customer service more than they absolutely have to. Their cases are quite well sealed, they usually have modest performance so thermals aren't a huge issue, which means less wear on the internal fans and capacitors that are typically overbuilt for the task. If you're building your own & want to maximise your price:performance, that's going to mean lower quality fans, lower quality power supply even if it is more powerful, lower quality motherboard components which are less tolerant to thermal or kinetic strain over the long term .etc But if you're happy to maybe drop a CPU or GPU tier & instead put that money from your budger into a more thermally efficient case with better airflow & filtration, better fans with better bearings, a better quality motherboard, sturdier PSU .etc - and maybe you undervolt your GPU & CPU instead of overclocking them to within an inch of your life, your components should be good for several builds so long as an ageing case I/O isn't a concern to you. Edit: lol and I'm 32 but have been messing with computers since I was a kid, and have found component build quality has improved a lot in the past 10-15 years if you're willing to pay a little extra (and that extra you're getting isn't RGB)
