This exercise will help you to increase your speed and improve your footwork in badminton especially in the front court. The mainfocus is an explosive start with the right footposition and to get to the net as high as possible.
_______________________________________________________________
The starting movement is the most important thing for a fast footwork in Badminton. You need to start fast, if you want to be able to get high to the corners. The keyelement here is a small jump performed before every approach to a corner, called split step. The landing after the split step generates a pretension in you legs that can be used to produce a greater impulse, if you push away right after the landing. That means on one hand, that the timing is important, so you want to land, when you now where to go.
The other crucial thing is the positioning of the feet during the split step. This positioning always depends on where you want to go, or where you expect the shuttle to come. If you want to get one corner, you have to push in the exact opposite direction to get maximum impulse into that direction. That means for example, if you want to get to the right corner at the net, you should position one foot on your left and behind you. That usually works best in offensive situation when you don't have to cover the sides, because your opponent cannot attack you there.
In defensive situations you usually don't know early, where your opponent plays the shuttle and if your opponent plays from the back, a smash to the sides is the most dangerous shot that you should cover. To do that you have to start to the side, so in defensive situations you should use a starting position that is parallel to the net, and allows to push to the side.

Tobias, thanks for pointing out recovery step in this video. I have another question, when doing split steps, what angle should back foot be compared to direction you are going? I'm asking this because I was taught that during scissor jump your back feet should point 90 degrees to the direction of the jump to minimize injury to your achilles tendon. What about doing split steps? You also put a lot of pressure on the back foot doing pushes to the corners. I know it is a minor detail, but there is saying - devil is in the details :)

At the moment i am working a lot on my own footwork because when I push and when i land i do that almost every time with the foot turned 90°. I try know to work more on the front foot and turn the foot a little more to the direction where I am going. Just look at some videos of top players and you will see that they also land a lot with the landing foot turned. Only under pressure it is important to turn 90° to avoid injuries and it also makes it easier to stop the movement

@@tobiaswadenka8435 Thanks for response! EDIT: I meant turnerd 90 degrees non racket (BACK) foott, but for example Antonsen does not even turn FRONT foot when doing net shots. ( btw I think Shi Yuqi broke ankle recently because he did not turn his feet forward and also stepped with wrong foot ) EDIT2: also Chen Yu Fei at Denmark Open week ago kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n62ckpte06ennY0.html I have another question, In this video the players are playing net shots with racket head under wrist - that is to play spinning net shots or lifts. But I have been told by former pro player to keep racket head above wrist when playing netshots - you can't spin it that well, but you have much better control for longer net shots and can do deceptive flicks with finger power more easily. For example Momota almost always plays net shots with racket head above his wrist - but it is also more difficult to play deceptive cross net shots with it. What do you think about it?

@@martincerven When you do a small lunge with not too much speed you dont have to turn the foot. What Antonsen is doing will help him to get faster out of the corner but when you come with a lot of speed you need to do it so you can bend the knee in the natural way to slow down. If you play at the net, racket should usually always point down in your starting position, as i described in the spinshot tutorial: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oph2h6Rz1qe5ook.html

Hi Tobias, can you please make a tutorial on front court cross net shot? and what do you think about how to defend a cross net shot if playing in the front court? sometimes when playing double, after i return a netshot at the right side of the front court, and the opponent make a cross net shot to the left front court, and its always hard to for me to reach to the left side of the court in time.

Not sure if you have already seen the video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/d52BraZqqL6alnU.html ;) About your problem, try to stay close to the net, so you are maybe able to intercept the cross net shot already very early so you don't have to go all the way to the other side of the court

If it is to high you have to hit a little bit more in front of you, or change the position of your wrist
