The fact that Todd is "leery" of the addition of Ourmar Ballo, and his 45% FT rate, all but guarantees that IU signs him.

I’m sure I’m going to get some negativity from this post. But here goes. Elijah Monroe who’s 6-10, ~235. Has hit 37% from the 3’s, +81% FT’s. Plays good D. He’s an IN kid and is the recent NAIA player of the year. He’s a real leader on and off the court. I could see him coming off the bench for 6-10 minutes when Malik gets into foul trouble. He’s visiting IU on April 18th. Both Wissy and PSU have reached out to him already. It’s a name to consider for sure.

Guys, Ballo is a grown man down low. AZ beat the hell out of really good teams over the last several years with him manning the post. Love to have him. Would be great to get Malone as well. He could play the stretch the floor big man role.

Ballo is no doubt a beast.I think the concern is watching Indiana run a 3 out-2 in offense, again.

@@IndianaSportsBeatRadio have you actually watched any video on Ballo? When he gets the ball, he does not have it long at all. He rarely goes to a straight postup with a guy on his back. He usually is constantly moving players with picks and screens on and off ball and looks to get position in front of the rim pinning his guy at the right time to seal him above him and holds that to get a quick lob over for an easy basket. He does the same to get rebounding positioning on both ends and is usually the first guy in the paint in transition.

@@kennethdescombes4097 there's a reason he's the top rated player in the portal. He'll likely pull other players with him.

You don’t have to wait for the big man to run. He gets it off the board and everyone else runs.

I wonder if Rice could have just gotten tired at the end of his freshman season, after carrying his team all year and beating cancer the year before. I don't know, maybe that would hurt your shooting numbers too?

Ballo is a absolute beast! Grab his arse!

Would Indiana try to get boogie fland?
@IndianaSportsBeatRadio4 ай бұрын
Great question, I was wondering that very thing. It would be easy to pick up where they left off. But the remnants of last season's non-NCAA year might have changes that??

Todd, Go back and watch the game. Johnson had 5 fouls in five minutes with 4 points. Clingin played 31 minutes and was gassed

If Ballo’s free throw woes, and IU’s lack of reliable outside shooting, mainly Galloway and Cupps poor shooting mechanics, can’t be improved I probably wouldn’t let your guest display his shooting training program website on your show. Think Lexi Bargesser.

He has nothing to do with any of the things you mentioned?

@@IndianaSportsBeatRadio Question: Do you believe the use of shooting coaches could improve poor shooters. If yes fine. Would have loved to hear you all talking about how they could improve. Your conversation basically sounded like Ballo was destined to shoot under 50% free throws and IU’s current players couldn’t improve their 3 point shooting. I can tell you Leary (or other coaches) working on Galloway’s form would improve his percentages. But if we can’t agree the usefulness of displaying his website is diminished when part of your conversation insinuates college students can’t learn to improve their shooting I am not sure where we’re at.

I am not sure why you would think I or anyone else would not think a player wouldn't benefit from skill specific form consultation? I do not recall saying anyone "couldn't improve their 3-pt shooting." It's the very reason PGA Tour players have swing coaches. But college players can only get that tutelage from staffers during the season. Outside of that they can train with whomever they wish. Todd is not on the IU staff. As far as Ballo's FT shooting, speaking for myself, I base my current expectations on his previous results over the last few seasons of play. Peyton Sparks FT and Trey Galloway's overall shooting certainly did not improve last season from whatever was being done to help change that, so there is another example. As far as how certain players need to improve, maybe that is something Todd will tackle in coming shows over the summer.
