I was married to a monster. He made my 5 year old son run laps around the soccer practice where his team mates were practicing. It was a form of humiliation and excessive physical expectation for punishment for not getting a smiley face on his daily or weekly behavior report from kindergarten. He wouldn't let our two children cry if they were sad, he would pinch them leaving terrible bruises and/or marks. I divorced him without child support just to get away. But he had more money than me and got full custody. He tortured my children for years and nobody would listen. Now that they are adults they want NOTHING to do with him. The court system is not just, it is equal to that person who has money. I am sickened by this story repeated over and over and over.

My ex forced our daughter to run until she was bleeding from a blister and he wouldn't let her stop, even after she tried to tell him she was hurting. He felt regret afterward, but very traumatizing for the child. It took me years to realize that he was not a healthy person for her to be around, always giving him the benefit of the doubt as her father. Things escalated to the point we had to go no contact. He resorted to stalking after that.

We dont really need to develop “ideas” at all in these cases. No direct offense to you and no disrespect intended, but the fact that people are so confused about what to do and how we should react and respond to virtually any situation, is just ridiculous and shameful. Do people now actually feel entitled and capable of developing our government as we go along? Maybe we should crack open the US Constitution. You dont need to worry about figuring all these things out. Better people already did. Open the US Constitution and APPLY it. Learn the pillars of the Rule of Law, and stop using collectivism and allowing judges to apply personal political views and opinions to cases to make their own government and enforce it on others. In general, it is neither your concern nor the judges concern whether its a good idea to let a biological father to have custody of his son, unless there is EVIDENCE that the rights of that son would be violated in the process(such as a right to life, liberty, and/or the pursuit of happiness). The judge failed anyway because once there WAS evidence that he was being denied his human rights, HE didnt do his job! But it is important that people realize that YOUR personal opinion is fine, but when you think you are justified in dictating it to someone else, you are attempting to violate the human rights of THAT person. If, for example, you think that your opinion about whether MY SON should be ALLOWED to be with me or not, is 100% irrelevant. It is not your child. The checks and balances are already in place. But people here now that are entrusted with those responsibilities are NOT doing them, while people who have no right to be involved, somehow feel important and special enough to make the decisions. Once again, the Rule of Law and Constitutional boundaries are in place. If we APPLY them, it might not prevent every tragedy, but it would promote that possibility by consistently placing accountability for things where it belongs. The government is not there to control us, supposedly. The mandate from the masses was indicated that its responsibility was to PROTECT AND DEFEND our rights. But they attempt control very consistently and overstep their boundaries.

She was 17. That is not a child. She can drive a car and have multiple boyfriends. A child is someone under the age of 12. 17 is late stage teenager. A 16 or 17 y/o can get married in Kansas with parental consent, otherwise 18 with no consent. My point being a 17 y/o is not still drawing with crayons. She lost custody because of her meth problem, so she loved meth more than her kid IMO. RIP kid and hope prison yard justice to the dude.

it was doomed to fail. the guy probably was raised by an achieving father who pushed him and pushed him and began the seeds of resentment. playing on the defensive line had brought on for sure brain damage. by then he'd have the illness that would follow him to college when the said incidents took place. knocked up a barely legal age, took in quite a bit of shame, and the woman herself being seen as damaged goods. he resented that boy and looked for anything to crack. the boy obviously is not as fat even more on the look of average health but he wasn't I guess enough athlete material and that's the only road to the father's approval. I suppose the lesson is to not just get involved with a woman just to get involved without any regard except for the gratification of his genetalia.

Well, yes. There is a significant difference here tho. Christopher had was an educated teacher and had a more stable situation. It looks like he has a criminal history, but it may of appeared that he cleaned up his life. At least that’s how it would appear on the surface. Mom is an addict and dad is stable. Unfortunately, there was much more under the surface. Chris impregnated a teenager. Briana would have been better off if she gave her son her last name and never identified Chris as the father, but hindsight is 20/20. Chris knows he is guilty as hell. An innocent person doesn’t run off.

"Parental Rights". We adopted a baby born addicted that spent 2 months in NICU. Her parents were still heavy drug users after birth. The state bent over backwards to try to get the child back to them. They were given a year to go to rehab, and they didn't. Neither ever got a job. Then it took three trips to the courtroom and two years. It's f'n crazy. Here's the WA state law: "For a child to be eligible for adoption in Washington, the biological parents must voluntarily relinquish their parental rights before or after the child is born." If they don't "voluntarily relinquish their rights" it's a complete nightmare.

It's likely down to the amount of times other parents lie about the other to gain custody. In divorce courts, lawyers encourage mothers to claim the father to be abusive in order to secure a win, and more child support, so I'm wondering if that's the reason. Not making excuses for them. They should have done more to help the poor boy.

He and his defense are making the excuse he fled, leaving the hospital while Corey was dying because he was threatened. By having dead fish thrown at his home or parents home. Wow, so scary. What his son went through at his hands pales in comparison. Christophers father and mother covered for him and all the bad things he did all his life, made sure Chris got custody by using their influence and having Corey and Chris live with them... then they HELPED Chris get his own place where he was able to torment Corey without witnesses. While this video is so heartbreaking, I am glad it exists. If there had been video in the apartment the day Corey was supposed to go see the abuse counselor (the same day Chris brought him to the hospital, the same day he died) we might have seen what Chris did to him to make sure he could not talk to the counselor. Because he died and didn't get to speak for himself. This man is a monster.

Hard to say if the treadmill incident itself had anything to do with his death, but it's crystal clear that it proves that it wasn't a a one-off thing. Treating a child so badly like that so casually just tells me that abusing his kid was completely normalized. It wasn't like the dad just snapped once from the kid misbehaving or something, that treatment was seemingly just business as usual for him.

Something came to mind when I was listening to the background of Christopher Gregor. The fact that he played football in high school brought back memories of several incidences I had regarding my college students who had played football in high school and were playing football for the college. Several of them showed behaviors that concerned me, such as fatigue, lack of scholastic motivation, entitlement, and disbelief that I'd fail them, etc. I was even approached by coaches who wanted me to be complicit in passing students who already showed signs of brain damage & other illnesses such as diabetes, in order for them to b put back on the football field. I was called in by the dean of the college who I very nicely told that I was not going to do anything to put these students at further risk. The dean certainly could go over my head, but that would be his decision without me as an ally. Eventually, the football students were funneled into classes where other educators were more likely to go along with the flow. It made me wonder if Gregor was one of these brain injured former athletes because he seemed "off" to me. I am not a medical person nor have I assessed any of these students, it is only my own personal observations that concerned me and my gut feelings.

Even after going to a child abuse hospital 14 bruises in various stages of healing werent enough for a CPS worker or a judge to remove him from the fathers care. As we see time after time after time children die at the hands of their parents because CPS dont do their job and Judges are biased. Btw as a survivor of DV the main area abusers kick or hit you is chest or tummy because bruising isnt so evident. However, they are often not intelligent enought to know these càn be fatal areas. I really wish the DA added 2nd degree murder becsuse alot of people, unless there is a witness or clear evidence might not convict on pre meditated murder. I hope the jury gets it right. RIP Corey.

If Christopher Gregor was in Texas, he would be facing the death penalty for causing the death of a child under 10. He was a horrible brut to a little boy that I'm sure looked up to him and just wanted to please him. Christopher is seen in that video just charging around, walking ahead of the little boy, not holding the door open for him, and just generally not being a father. Then, of course, he demanded the fast treadmill experience that was harmful to his child. No matter how he felt about the mother, the boy did not deserve any of what he experienced. I can't believe a teacher would treat his own child like this. He should never be let out of prison, because children in society are not safe with him around.

@@msh1265 maybe the SA she received from Chris to cause her pregnancy in the first place was the beginning of her addiction to try and cope with the bad that had been done to her.??

This is a very difficult topic, Dr Grande, and you did a great job in outlining the facts and the considerations of this tragedy. I must say that I always enjoy how you sneak little comments into the middle of your discourse! These comments are clever and have perfect comedic timing. As a former New Yorker, I really enjoyed the comment of how the father would do anything to avoid 30 years in New Jersey! Very funny and very clever and a nice way to lighten, a little, the heaviness of this topic.

This case really broke my heart. I thought at 50, I was immune to most things but I can't get Corey out of my mind. It must have been terrifying to be at the mercy of a sadistic father and to be all alone in this world. I'm agnostic but I really hope I'm wrong, and there's a heaven for this innocent boy to go to.

A recent case here, where the "authorities" didn't listen. Mother drowned her twins. Father had asked for custody several times. The father found them in the bathtub.😔

The poor child did not have any chance of life with a drug addicted mother in one hand, and a psychopath father on the other.
