when you buy a car, usually the salesman gives you a walk around and a briefing about the controls and features of the car. This is done for high end dealers like Lincoln, Cadillac, Lexus, Mercedes etc and Tesla should do the same. Introducing the features of the car makes for safety cause knowing is half the battle. Even if you saw the emergency button....most people wouldn't know what it's for unless told what it's used for. All in all, it's Tesla's fault....no one should be trapped inside or locked outside a vehicle because of a DEAD BATTERY PERIOD.....that's Idiotic. This is why door handles should never be all electric. There should always be a way to unlock and open the door with a physical key and mechanical door handle. The fact that you have to find the little port and pull wires out and hook up jumper cables and hope they don't touch and short the system out is absurd.
@erinbrown9897Күн бұрын

Well, she's got an EV, so she probably has some kind of outlet in her garage. Not all garages have places to plug things up. My house was built in the 1980's. There were no outlets installed in the garage (I have to open the garage doors manually) and none outside the house, except for one outlet in the back of the house above the one-story deck. I can't charge an EV in my garage, in my driveway, or even put up any holiday lights outside at my house. I've also got no room in my breaker box to add any more outlets. That is just the way this place was built back then. Bad design, too, just like any vehicle in which you can't just simply use a physical key without electrical complications.

The battery in question is the 12-volt battery that controls the doors and other electronics. In order to access that battery, you'd either need to be able to open the hood (which couldn't happen because the 12-volt battery that would allow you to open the hood was dead) or you'd have to follow the long, complicated procedure to be able to open the hood when the battery is dead. If her young granddaughter wasn't in the car, the second option might have worked for someone inclined enough who happened to have a 12-volt battery charger or other vehicle to charge the battery with. It's highly unlikely that your average Tesla owner knows much about the 12-volt battery or how to charge it, or even that they keep a battery charger on hand to be able to charge it themselves.

According to the NHTSA, KIA and Hyundai had nearly 5,000 fires, 198 injuries, and 2 deaths. Owners were also told to park vehicles outside and away from buildings. 5.8 million vehicles were recalled. Ford recently recalled 518,000 vehicles after reports of 20 fires due to cracked fuel lines. Ford had several recalls over the past 30 years due to fire risk including unattended vehicle fires. Kia recently had another recall - owners were again told to park their vehicles outside and away from buildings because the vehicle could catch fire "while the vehicle is parked and the ignition is off." And there are many other recalls of combustion vehicles due to fire risk with park outside orders including Ford, GM, Hyundai, KIA, Range Rover, Mazda, Honda, BMW, McLaren, Jeep, Subaru.
