She was originally sent after Superman to protect him since he was only a baby, but the shockwave of krypton exploding knocked her pod into the phantom zone where time doesn’t pass. She slept there for 24 years, and then made it to earth, but obviously she was still 13. By then, Superman had already grown up and revealed himself as a superhero. The reason some of the stuff you mentioned doesn’t always apply to Kara is because she did experience what you would call “human sensation” for the first 13 years of her life, since she didn’t have any powers on Krypton. Now that she’s on earth, she gets her nutrients from the sun, but theres still residual feelings from her time on Krypton, so she very much enjoys eating, and her tolerance for certain things is different. In simpler terms, Superman and Supergirl are the same for the most part, but there are small differences based on how long they’ve spent on earth.
