In this lesson, we going to talk about one kind of question that you will see on the TOEFL Reading question: Insert the Sentence questions. These questions ask us to take a new sentence and insert it somewhere in the original passage.
These questions are easy to recognize. You will be given a section from the reading passage marked with four squares.
That will be followed by this prompt:
"Look at the four squares [[square image]] that indicate where the following sentence can be added to the passage:"
That prompt will be followed by a new sentence. This question wasn't in the original passage, but it will be about the same topic.
Then the question will ask:
"Where would the sentence best fit?"
Insert the Sentence questions always look like this, so you don't need to spend a lot of time reading the prompt. Once you recognize that you are reading an Insert the Sentence question, you can immediately start applying our strategy for answering these questions.
These questions can look difficult, but they're pretty simple to answer once we know how they work. Since there will be one of these questions on every test, learning how to answer them is a quick way to do better on the TOEFL.
