I just rushed here to comment that I spontaneously decided to apply for a masters of law degree in London in late June and only had a day to study for TOEFL. I watched your videos and did your mock exams for 13 hours straight and got 103/120!! I did poor on reading (22) because I was so nervous and didn't complete all of the questions 😅 but still!!! I came here to say your videos are awesome!! Thank you so much 🙏🏾🙏🏾

@@gorbesiah8 I'm not sure what you mean by template but I watched a video where it was explained how to structure your text: one introduction paragraph, three paragraphs regardingthe three pro and con arguments, no conclusion. And use all of the keywords that bring high points (while, whether, in conclusion, thus, hence etc.) And especially using if-clauses, be careful to use the correct tense (I recommend revising that with the help of a grammar book). I hope my answer was of some help 😊

Greetings Josh. Many many thanks for this video. I just have a question about the timing of the listening section. Did I hear you right that the test taker will be in control of the timing? Meaning that there are no longer 10 seconds for the student to find the right answer? So they will have 35 minutes for 28 questions, and they can decide how much time they will allocate for each question?

27:54 demonstrates the issue of giving a more than one correct answer to a vaguely put question. Yes, A is correct in your interpretation. But at the same time, B is correct too, because only professors are entitled to change grades and, thus, can help the student with her problem. Please, check out all answer options in advance because nobody really wants to lose their grades, even though they understood the functional meaning of the phrase.

Hi, Thank you for this helpful material！ I noticed one potential mistake in the script. Regarding the below sentence, the comma before "becoming" is not correct, otherwise the subject of "becoming" would be "visitors". I just wanted to make sure my understanding is correct. By 1840, New Orleans alone had 12 percent of the nation’s total banking capital, and visitors often commented on the great cultural diversity of the city, becoming a thriving metropolis that rivaled New York in importance.

This comma is correct. This is advanced grammar, but basically this phrase, " and visitors often commented on the great cultural diversity of the city, It can removed entirely and the the sentence that is left would form a complete thought. " By 1840, New Orleans alone had 12 percent of the nation’s total banking capital becoming a thriving metropolis that rivaled New York in importance." This is why there need to be commas both before the word, "and," and after the word, "city."

Hi, Josh! I have a question. In Passage 3 question 6, the alternative a says the opossite about the definition of traditional economics. Well, I have struggled to understand why the answer is letter a) but I only see an impossible answer. Lastly, I have already downloaded the explanatory PDF.

A is showing how the woman makes a bad decision which is "inconsistent", with traditional economics. D can't be right because it is not "proving anything. B is also incorrect because this is not a cause-and-effect relationship and C also makes no sense. Thus, A is the clear answer.

I'm actually taking your Emergency course 'cause I have less than a month to prepare and I can't believe how helpful it has been so far, I'm halfway, but still I can see the improvement when I do the mock tests. Good question. On the test, you can go to the next question without waiting for the next one to appear. We calculated about 30 seconds per question for this video on KZfaq, which equals out about the same amount of time you will have in total on test day.

Notetaking is helpful, but it is also optional. In the end, it's up to you. As for the IELTS vs TOEFL, everyone has a different opinion on this, but usually, people feel IELTS is slightly easier because in the listening section, you can see the questions while you listen and during the speaking section you talk to a person instead of a computer.

When you take the TOEFL IBT test at a test center, you get a pencil and a piece of scratch paper. You can't take notes on the computer or bring your own paper. Hope this helps and good luck on your test!

We have mixed opinions about our tests, some people find them easier, others find them more difficult than the TOEFL iBT, but in general it is supposed to be the same level of difficulty.

I wanna ask that why the answer of question 4 in passage 2 is C instead of D? I checked the answer explanation in link provided in description. In transcipt, there is :The slaves’ day didn’t end after they picked the cotton; first, they had to bring it in to be weighed, then they had to care for the animals and perform other chores. Indeed, slaves often maintained their own gardens and livestock, which they tended after working the cotton fields, in order to supplement their supply of food. This part did depicted more terrible jobs for slaves other than picking cottons which contradicts the explanation in your link. Also, the answer D, saying "Slaves were exploited by owners of cotton plantations" is nowhere to be found in transcript. Any chance you got the answer got wrong?

The question is asking about cotton plantations. It does not talk about other jobs the slaves did, nor does compare working on a plantation to other jobs. That is why you cannot choose D.

I guess it depends on who you ask. Some people say they speak too fast while others say the pace is normal. In my opinion, the pace is a tiny bit fast.

Sharing some tips that have helped me in the Listening Section (: TOEFL LISTENING TIME MANAGEMENT!!!!! (remember that the total time for the Listening Section is 36 minutes, but you only have around 16 minutes to answer the 28 questions) PART I: aprox. 6'30'' Passage #1 conversation 6'30'' - answer questions 1 to 5 (in approx. 30 sec each) Passage #2 lecture 3'30'' - answerquestions 6 to 11 (in approx. 30 sec each) 00'00'' ______________________________________________________ PART II: 10min Passage #3 conversation 10'00'' - answer questions 1 to 5 (in approx. 30 sec each) Passage #4 lecture 7'00'' - answer questions 6 to 11 (in approx. 30 sec each) Passage #5 lecture 3'30'' - answer questions 12 to 17 (in approx. 30 sec each) 00'00'' _______________________________________________________ Tips: 1- remember the approx. time of the chrnometer your should finish each task. 2- take notes using 2 columns to compare/separate what each person points out. 3- try to answer faster the conversation questions to get more time on the lecture ones because they are usually more difficult. obs: consider that Part I and Part II can be reverse.

Yes, coz of time I couldn’t do well… I just marked fast thinking I would run out of time but in the end, I had 2min n couldn’t even go back and check the answers

Thank you, Natalia. Just for confirmation: so in the new format, the next question will not be played until the test taker is finished, right? I'm asking because in previous versions the test taker had almost 10 seconds and then the next question was announced. Am I right?

Hey Josh!! I have a question. How does toefl score the listening questions where I have to answer more than one multiple choice (The select 2 i am talking about), or where you are asked to organize the answers in chronological order, or place a check mark in the correct box? Is that question worth more than 1 point (like they do in the reading section for the last or 2nd last que)? What happens if one of your check mark in a table is wrong but rest all are correct? Is it a zero (considered wrong) or Toefl/ETS assigns it a point like 0.5 or something?

For questions with two choices, if two choices are correct, award yourself one point. If one of the choices is incorrect, you earn zero points for the given question. Summary questions are worth two points. If all three choices are correct, award yourself two points. If two choices are correct and one is incorrect, award yourself one point. If two or more choices are incorrect, you earn zero points for the given question.

You can take notes whenever you like. The only exception is at the beginning of a section when they are reading directions.

Hi there and thank you for commenting. I believe just more exposure to these types of listening passages will help with concentration. Basically, you are not used to listening to someone speak on a dry academic topic for five minutes. I would also recommend pausing the lecture when you feel lost, mark the time and then replay the passage and try to focus for a longer period of time on the next round.

Hello guys. I would like to ask a question. I just got my TOEFL IBT score of 77 but my university program requires for a 80. I have already paid the tuiton fee completed my enrollment but I did get trough from harsh time. Which shouldnt be considered as a excuse. My deadline day is coming in about 20 days, is there any chance there that I could get in. I have already past math exam ext. Thank you sincerely..

Hi Josh. Let me ask you a question...on the day of the test,in the listening passage, nowadays you get to see the questions while you are listening to the recording? How much time should you spend to answer each question? Do they give you some time to do so? Cheers

When you take the TOEFL iBT test, the questions do NOT show up until after the audio finishes, so there is no way for you to read the questions while the audio is playing. You will have about 30-35 seconds per question, but it doesn't count down for each question. Rather it gives you time per section.
