This is what was up with my cistern - the split in the membrane seal was even in the exact same place. Perfectly explained and easy to follow video. Bought the part at a local shop and I was able to fit it in about 10mins. Cheers Handyman!

Managed to get the fitting off after watching this (I didn't even know how to turn the water off before watching your video), Diaphragm was fine but gave it a clean and its turned out that the collar was on too tight, but all fixed now! You, sir, are a diamond :) I went down the Screwfix route too, and found it a breeze following your video. The hardest part for me was turning off the water, as the bathroom fitter had directed the screw head towards the back of the toilet pan, making it tricky to get a screwdriver in there! After that, it took about two minutes to change the washer, even for a hamfisted DIYer like me - so if you're worried about how difficult this can be.....don't be!

Once I had watched your video I could order the correct part from our local screwfix, pick it up the same day and do the replacement. It was a 5 minute job because I knew what to do thanks to your clear instructions. Our problem was identical to the one you show - the old washer had split. 2023 and your video is still being used!!! One of the clearest, well explained DIY videos I have ever seen. Found it a bit difficult to source the diaphragm as i suppose it's part of the trade's con to get you to buy a complete replacement, but got one at an independent plumbers merchant. Thanks man, it helped me to change the diaphragm.

This is brilliant! The first video I found has the exact same cistern and internals as mine. The problem was exactly the same, so I went to Screwfix and showed them the part but the girl on the till said they did not stock it. Good job I wrote the specification as shown on a previous post as she then searched on her database and found it. Cost was actually around £4.50. Easy fix which has also stopped the water hammer in the pipes.

Excellent video!! My toilet was filling non stop. So, shut off the water, removed that part, washer was perfect but a tiny crumb of limescale was preventing the valve from closing. Cleaned it up ,put it back together (Don't know how you did that and filmed at the same time!! Genius!!) and it's working perfectly now for free. This is the only video with this type of valve!!! 40 fools clicked the wrong thumb!

This video was bang on. My cistern is now fixed for the princely sum of £ 3.71 (inc VAT). As you would say - "Thats us".

Very helpful - and spoken in a relaxed way. Cistern now refills in 25 seconds rather than 15 (noisy) minutes!

Thanks for the video, got exactly the same problem. I've had to adjust the main holding "screw" to get good water flow through, but I did find a tiny slit in the diaphragm which I'm about to replace.

Yes! I know nothing about plumbing. The part was a bit more expensive from Screwfix - £4.70 - but much quicker to get. From Googling the problem, watching your clear video, ordering, popping to Screwfix and changing the washer I had the job done in an hour, from Google to flush! Really appreciate your help :)

Bloody oath! What a ripper video mate! Been searching for this for the last week, a video with perfect bloody explanations, showing the problem first at the start of the video which is exactly the issue I was having. I have a diglfferent system but struth mate, your close ups, different angles, diagnosing the problem and showing the repair was spot on! Bonus points for doing it one handed too legend! Thanks so much for your helpful video. It gave me the confidence to do the job. However, because my Twyfords Moda cistern is very slim I found that I needed to modify the process a little. There was insufficient room to relocate the lever fork in its slot before re-seating the diaphragm assembly and tightening the large knurled nut. So I first removed the lever arm from the diaphragm assembly before replacing the diaphragm itself. The next step was to re-seat the diaphragm assembly and tighten the knurled nut. Only then did I relocate the lever fork in its slot and finally press the other end of the lever arm back into the two securing slots on the rear of the diaphragm assembly. I hope these additional comments will help anyone who has a similarly small cistern.

Brilliant thank you. On the brink of calling a plumber out. Sorted for £2.07 from our local builders. Also for some reason the fault caused all the pipes to vibrate like a rocket taking off when the toilet was flushed, this has stopped since the repair. Romoving the nylon washer was the hardest thing.
