Sooo eerie watching this the next day, hearing him talk about fear of an earthquake coming and literally a few hours later the biggest earth quake in 10 years hits Japan. Now that's some wild sixth sense 😥

30:45 John you jinx it about the Earthquake. You are right that it's okay to have a small earthquake every once in a while then having a Big Earthquake.

The Niimi chef on top of the corner building is my wife's grandfather who started the shop. The teacup building (a family residence) was built by one of her uncles.

Hi John, my husband and I shopped wooden-made bowls and spoons, and chopsticks in Kappabashi Street I think it was at Niimi's. And we walked along a bit, even if not along the entire street. Thanks for showing us what there is a bit further. e certainly will go back there as soon as we can come back to Japan. We truly hope we will, maybe in 2023. It is surely is a very interesting street. Take care, thanks again.

This street is always on my and my best friends itinerary. We always shop there and i also use the tools regurarly in my kitchen. It is interesting that in the last 10 years more and more shops for plastic food models popped up. And the knive shops are really good. Don´t forget to go also into the side streets. There you can find also some very good shops.
@BR1883FC
@BR1883FC 2 жыл бұрын
Was surprised at how expensive those plastic food models are in these shops. On the subject of back streets, there's one that runs parallel to the main road all the way from Ueno pretty much up to Senso Ji, on that back road is a Kumamon themed shop, sells nothing but Kumamon items. Was looking in the window late one evening, the owner saw us, came out and opened up the shop, and gave us snacks for whilst we were looking at what was for sale. I swear, only in Japan.😆

John, I really enjoyed this video. In fact, it made me ridiculously happy😃! I absolutely love Kappabashi-dori and have spent many happy hours there, in all kinds of weather. The covered sidewalks are brilliant, providing protection from the rain and relief from the heat and sun of summer. It is probably my #1 shopping destination when I’m in Tokyo and, once the borders reopen and we’re able to travel again, it will be one of the first places I revisit. I can’t wait! In the meantime, I enjoy the treasures I have purchased there over the years. My kitchen is a Kappabashi shrine 😂. Thank you for putting a very big smile on my face and I look forward to the more in depth video you mentioned in one of your comments. 🙂🙏🏻💕

John, loved this video. We've been to kappabashi to buy great Japanese porcelain dishes. Always buys a backpack full of dishes and bring em home carry on. Something I wanted to buy are those navy half aprons (from the waste down) that have Sapporo beer or kirin name on them. I always see those restaurant "hawkers" with them. Did you see something like that out there?
