Who'd thought that a bunch of mild-mannered Tokyo girls would have funk down pat? Well, I guess expectations are there to be broken and remade. Fantastic groove, and some nice melodies to boot. Lovin' it!

So their set consisted of covers of Tower of Power, Thelonious Monk and Weather report. That is an ambitious set list and they completely got it down and did the most important thing, they added their own style and flavor to those elemental jazz fusion favorites, giving us a new appreciation for the music and the entire experience. Well done ladies, very well done.

Mimi the drummer is just outstanding. Along with the bass player and the keyboard player. Take this as a compliment I feel that something in your music reminds me of the very first journey albums that were all instrumental. Reminds me of Greg Raleigh Ross Valerie and the incredible original drummer of journey. Only this man is really good. I don't know what it is maybe it's something with culture or something that Japanese women are just absolutely incredible when they play their instruments they are really keen on music even more so than a lot of other cultures I mean they are just it's like second nature to them I've seen some of your marching bands and shimmy Shawn girls and you have such a variety of music and places like Japan. They even have heavy metal. And jazz and surf guitar music is just there's nothing that they can't do. And that is the really good discipline of knowing your notes it's just amazing. There are many good women musicians and many other different countries too although it seems like there's nothing in music that Japanese women can't do they are amazing

This was written and composed by the bands original bassist, Juna Serita. Two plus years ago I started seeing The Princess of Funk in my recommendations and decided to watch it one night and got hooked on Juna. The drummer in the video is MiMi and you'll on occasion see the sax player, Harumo and the guitar player, Takoyaki playing with the band.

Being on time and correct are crafts of the trade for session musicians. TGJ really puts together a beautiful sound. So much soul. I'm in their groove every beat. Mesmerizing. Always a tick of sadness when they end. Luckily, in these special sessions, they talk to us and reveal a little of what kind of people they are. Good people. There are only a few things more enjoyable, in life, than being around good people and good music. Cheers TGJ ... Happy to be a fan.
