Fernando Aragonés It's called a "manic" episode, I believe, sir. Not "maniac", lol. But I could be mistaken I suppose. Lots of people have manic "episodes". I have them frequently after too much coffee, lol, or sometimes when I'm very nervous, too! It's not necessarily a symptom of anything serious...just CAN be, like SO many things, it depends on other variables.

Nancy Ranft yes, yes, you are right. I am spanish, English is not my first language and I confused manic (hypomanic) within maniac, which means a very different thing. Having those episodes doesn't mean that he has a disorder or something like that, it can only be a very sharp characteristic of his personality. I also feel a little bit like that when I am sleep deprived but I am not tired. If I haven't sleep but I have enough energy sometimes I feel myself quite manic. Hehee Thanks for the clarification

Tom has talked openly about the fact that he has ADHD, like a huge percentage of his fellow Americans who are highly successful in their professional fields. You can easily look this up if you are honest with yourself, regardless of your party loyalty. With modern medicine, managed ADHD is no longer a roadblock to success, and in fact is often accompanied by high intellect - but it's a simple fact that it also can make you seem pretty "Excitable" when you are onto something. I know lots of extremely high-achievers who live with ADHD. You can make jokes about their behavior and how fast they talk if you want, whatever - it has nothing to do with the reality that many of them are smarter and higher-achieving than you or I.

I used to work in the same building as Tom. This is pretty much what it is like getting stuck with him in the elevator or the line at the News Cafe. I admire his funky spirit, not sure he's the best spokesperson for the cause.
