The bag looks great. I'm still scratching my head on the price? Are manufacturing costs higher, materials? I can find special edition Gorucks and Evergoods (waxed canvas) bags cheaper!

I was very interested until I saw the price. I'm out at that price. 🍻I'll keep rocking my Synik 30. It carries 30L for $330 vs 21L for $425.

I'm SO GLAD I purchased all my Tom Bihn bags back when the "original halcyon" was still being produced. I bought the western flyer, synapse, messenger bag, several tote/grocery bags, all kinds of accessories and love them all. I'm not a fan of the other colors/material but may change my mind. When it comes to Tom Bihn bags, the desire for more is a common sentiment. Many of us aim to fit everything into a single bag, but in my experience, it's not always practical, especially for air travel and navigating airports. Personally, I tend to pack only one day's worth of clothes in this bag and use a carry-on luggage for everything else. I've used the Synapse 25, 19, and Synik 30 before, and the smaller 21-liter size of this bag gives me pause, not because of its design but due to its price. I'm still contemplating whether to buy it in black, as my Synik has served me well for four years, and my Synapse 25 has been with me for almost eight years. I do hope they bring back the halcyon material. Thanks for the insightful review.

$425 feels a bit crazy. When packed out the trinity looks so chunky. The water bottle placement also seems weird to me, not easy to grab without opening the bag, and then it's sideways in backpack mode.

Definitely a little chunky, but way less so than my Stowaway. As far as the water bottle placement is concerned, I never put a water bottle in the pocket that I think would leak, so I don't mind the water bottle being sideways.

Great review! When TB showed the first images of the Trinity, I could immediately see the resemblance to the Stowaway. I've owned the Stowaway since they were first introduced and, like you, it's my favorite TB pack ever. I use it daily. I've even taken week-long (albeit minimalist) one-bag air travel with the Stowaway. I do use the backpack straps in the Stowaway but almost exclusively when I have it fully packed-out and when I'm running through airport terminals. Personally, I was hoping the Trinity (assuming this was the bag TB kept telling me would be a bit of a replacement for the Stowaway) would just be a couple liters bigger than the Stowaway. I'm not tempted by the Trinity because I no longer do corporate travel and, agree, it would be ideal for that. It's just a bit bulky for my tastes. That said, I'm sure they'll sell a lot of them even at that price point. It's well-thought through and will be the perfect choice for many. -Thomas

Glad to see you making tom bihn videos again. The trinity/stowaway comparison makes sense. I am curious of the success of a niche/high price bag to a general market. I have never really seen the appeal of the tristar/western flyer, I have always been more in the synapse fan base. I am not a business traveler so there are aspects of this bag that wont appeal to me. This bag just seems a bit half baked to be a reimagining. The synik/techonaut i think were stronger debuts, the only gray areas arose from the bags they were based on still existing. This bag just doesnt grab me. Needs a bit more to be in that "it just works category" thay good design can reach

Excellent review! I'll probably wait until de 25th to decide if I buy myself. A question for you: I do some business traveling a couple of time a year. I use a A45 and a Pilot as my carry-on and personal bag combo. I was looking at the Trinity as a Pilot replacement as ny mobile office/edc bag. The compartment with the water pocket seems to fit the front layout of the pilot, which would give me the entire back compartment for extra as stuff when needed. Do you think that's a good use case?

Price does seem high, but I think what drives the price is often the complexity of the design, which translates into more labor needed to sew the bag. And because these bags are all made in the US, labor costs are quite high. I have the Western Flyer in Halcyon, which I love, as well as the Tri-Star, which I rarely use. But both seem like they would be fairly easy to sew. Like the design of the Trinity, but wish it were a little bit larger.

At 21 litres I thought it would be personal item sized but seeing it packed it looks like it might be too big?

I use bigger bags as personal item bags all the time, so this will definitely be personal item sized for me.

Great review! Thank you. But this bag, much as it would fit my needs well, is just plain out of my price range. I don’t have a company that would reimburse me for it and my pockets are not that deep. So I will abandon TB and look elsewhere. Alas.
