Bledsoe is a class act at the highest professional level. Dudes still one of Tom's biggest supporters, and deserved as well as a big part of that first Superbowl for them.

Bledsoe "a big part"? Absolute nonsense! That Patriots team was 0 -2, with Bledsoe running things as their QB (and pathetic offensively). The truth is that there would have been NO Playoffs at all for the Patriots that season, based on Bledsoe's performance, just like that same team and coach had floundered with a 5 - 11 record with Bledsoe as the QB in 2000 the previous year (despite a good Defense). Now Tom Brady was 14 -3 with that same personnel group. . I know people like to point out Bledsoe coming off the bench in the AFC championship, but the truth is that most all of the big points in that AFC game came from the Patriots special teams play (Troy Brown punt return for a TD, a Field Goal blocked and runback for another TD). Bledsoe's own completion percentage was less than 50% in that game -- not heroic or "Star" material at all. I think Bledsoe is a nice guy, but people seem to overlook all his Interceptions, poor judgements, and bumbling as a player ... and want to make him into something he was not. History shows Bledsoe lost his QB job three different times, on three different times --- because he never could play well in big games. Remember Bledsoe blew the Super Bowl for The Patriots in 1996, as he chucked-up 4 Interceptions. How do you expect to ever win against good teams with 4 interceptions? This is why he was eventually benched everywhere that he went.

@@FreeSociety1 I can tell you are a true Patriot *fan* throwing any of your players and coaches under the bus and denying them any and all credit. The team that won the Super Bowl was NOT the same team that went 5-11. From 2000 to 2001 Belichick recreated that roster with 30+ personnel changes. Yes thats 30+ different players on the Super Bowl roster than the 5-11 roster...He was just starting to build his team and get the right pieces.
@FreeSociety1
@FreeSociety1 4 жыл бұрын
@@andreabae852 Well...for the 2001 team all the big defensive stars were primarily Bill Parcells people like Ty Law, Willie McGinnst, Lawyer Malloy, Teddy Bruschi, Ted Johnson, etc. and a lot of the noteworthy offensive players like Troy Brown, Andrew Vinateri. The most significant difference between the 5-11 team (2000), and the 0 -2 start for the 2001 team was the insertion of Tom Brady. That was the difference maker ...
@stinkbandit
@stinkbandit 9 жыл бұрын
Even though he left for the Buffalo Bills (2002-2004) Dallas Cowboys (2005-2006), he will always be a Patriot. Bledsoe and Parcells started the new era of New England Patriots Football. Dark times for Pats Nation before those two arrived. I would be honored to shake Drew's hand.

Hats off to Drew Bledsoe. So many other players stuck in his tough position would have sabotaged the season. Bledsoe wasn't a choir boy about the decision to keep Tom as the starter, but I like that fire as a competitor. Still he helped Brady a ton

No. That's foolish. NFL players are not supposed to ever sabotage other players, or the whole Team. That is not ever the normal, or expected reaction. Players get benched and move around on the depth chart ALL THE TIME. That's just the NFL. The best guys play....happens all the time.

it was a different situation between Drew going down and Brady going down. When Brady went down with an ACL and out for the year, he was placed on injured reserve, which means he is done for the season with the team. His priorities were to go through surgery and rehab and prepare for the following season. Drew went down for a couple of weeks, and he stay on the team. He was never placed on injured reserve or anything, he was still an active team member so his only job was to be on the sideline.

I'm sure he was salty but Drew Bledsoe goes up a bunch of points in my book with how he handled the Brady thing. Then came in and beat the Steelers to get the Pats to the Super Bowl. Not to mention the best ever quote for a last drive of the Super Bowl. "Fuck it, just go sling it!" Its too bad that his career didn't quite ascend like he wanted but none the less, still a great quarterback.

Bledsoe may never have won a super bowl, or been the most clutch in big games or in the postseason, but Bledsoe was still a class act and acted professional. That’s what matters. It seems to be he was a great teammate and when he knew his time was up in New England and Dallas, he helped the next guy in line, taught him so much, and both Brady and Romo had good careers. Yes, both were great quarterbacks, but they may never been great if it weren’t for Bledsoe. And to be honest, Bledsoe doesn’t have bad all time numbers at this moment. 16th in passing yards, 23rd in passing touchdowns, 17th in 4th quarter comebacks, 17th in game winning drives. I know he doesn’t have a high completion percentage, or a high passer rating, and I know he won’t stay in those position ranks for a long time, but Bledsoe to me is a underrated quarterback. Before he came, the Patriots were jokes. They were a lighting stock. Bledsoe changed that. He made the Patriots go from one of the worst teams in the league to a playoff caliber team. He helped them go from a joke to a potential championship team.
@FreeSociety1
@FreeSociety1 2 жыл бұрын
You make your point well. But we cannot say that Bledsoe was EVER underrated. He was paid the highest contract of anyone in the entire NFL at that point in time -- so Bledsoe was treated like Royalty from day one throughout his Patriot career. Yet he as you observed he did NOT perform at that level ("best in the League") .. as we see with low completion rates, and did not play well in playoff games, and did not ever in his career have high passer ratings, never won an MVP or even came close, but he did have high turnover (Interceptions) and missed opportunities with a talented Team around him (several Hall of Fame players)

Bledsoe was/is a true class act. I'm a big Brady fan too, but Bledsoe never once made a stink about losing his job, or sitting on the sidelines afterward, for MANY games. It's not like Bledsoe was some schlep QB who was a nobody beforehand. 3X pro bowler who had to act like a true professional, which he did. Not a lot of modern-day athletes you can say that about, given the circumstances Bledsoe had to endure.

What is so bad about driving a Dodge Ram pickup in 2001 or any other year for that matter? How does that imply a "poor" or "unproven" player? How does that warrant a laugh from a hack like Terry Bradshaw?

Growing up in the 90s.....I never thought Bledsoe woudlve lost his job (sorry for everyone that missed out on how good Bledsoe was in the 90s).....because he struggled near the end of the decade.....and they stuck with him...to the point of signing an $100 million dollar deal...

There is another video of an old Brady interview and someone said he looked like Yao Ming. It was ducking hilarious because it’s true. I wish I could find that video on here again.

How exactly did Belichick handle his benching in a bad way? It seemed a run-of-the-mill benching, to be honest.

Bledsoe was decent but nothing really spectacular tbh. Patriots under Bledsoe would have likely never won a SB. They'd have constantly been circling around losing in Wildcard or Divisional or AFC or even SB but likely have never become what they became under Brady. Brady is just so far better and ahead of Bledsoe that even Bledsoe and others know it and are pissed that Brady is not just good in game but also as a person. And they cannot stand that. Bledsoe went to Bills but really fizzled as well. However, Brady would've been traded out of Patriots had Bledsoe remained (and say he didn't get hit by Moe Lewis) and Brady would have gone on to greatness there.

They were winning with Brady at QB. You don't mess with success. It would have been equally cold if they benched Brady after how well he was playing.
