Great video as usual.

Thanks. Hopefully I can get some video of using it AND not cutting myself with it. So many uses to explore.

Been waiting to mess with it for years. Probably be a few months and I should do a review of it.

Cool Blade. I have the Tom Brown T1 Tracker in Coyote Brown. I like it. I recently got the T3 and it’s pretty good especially for throwing. Good Review. 👍🏻

The T3 is the one I original wanted. But decided for actual use to get the T1. I kind of want a mini T4 to mess with as a tinker toy/knife. But really dont want to spend over $100.00 on one. How do you like the T3? The size and blade steel kind of made me want to get one. Lol I guess the T2 is only one I am not interested in… I have heard they throw well.

@@CAVCOP ,… I got the T1 first because I wanted a heavy indestructible Chopper. It seems to be just that. I wanted to try the T3 someday, on a whim, Just to see what I thought of it, Because it’s almost as big as the T1. { The T1 is 1095 Carbon steel and the T3 is 154CM (slightly higher end 440C stainless steel). } I figured I’d practice throwing it as well as bushcraft/ camping on wet days because it’s stainless. I’m pleasantly surprised! It’s a really good knife. “So Far” It’s a little lighter and more comfortable to carry with my other gear, it throws pretty good, I don’t have to clean & oil it as soon as I get home from using it in the woods. It’s not as good of a chopper but it’s a close second, I think it’s a better slicer & thrower though. I like them both. I have minimal interest in the tiny T4 and ZERO interest in the T2. I think I got the best of both worlds and both steels with the T1 & T3 Trackers. (As far as the Tops Brand goes) 👍🏻. Congratulations on Your New Tracker.

The coating comes off pretty easy when you actually use the knife. Is this knife brand new? It does make amazing feathers. It's one of those things that are good at most things but not great at anything. As said by another commenter I'd also rather have a few different tools that a great at what they are designed for. Make life a lot easier. That being said I know a few people that do well with this pattern.

Yes, in the video it was new. On my ESEE and TOPS knives I have not had the coating come off that easily with basic use. A few different tools is what most people would want if carrying a backpack full of equipment that weighs a bit. But if going minimalist with say a haversack, a tool like the tracker can get most trapping/survival tasks done (granted you need the skills, time, and energy). When I was in the military and would stay in the field, a tool/knife like this would have been handy for its size vs an e-tool, fixed blade, and other equipment used to construct shelters and booby traps.

How many feet of paracord did you manage to wrap around the sheath?
@CAVCOP7 ай бұрын
There is a little over 12 feet, going between the clips, and about 2 feet in the lanyard.

The price is what I can’t get past. I don’t believe in a one tool option. I would rather carry a good knife a tomahawk and a saw. Not to mention all three cost me about $80. I will say now all 3 might cost $100 still well below a Tops tracker price. Really the new condor is probably my next buy. The Terrachete by joe flowers. It’s perfect for what I use a knife for. I’m a fisherman that loves rivers and lakes. So I need a machete more then a chopper. An a thin knife for bait an fillets. Tomahawk does all the camping choirs.

Cost and intended use a huge factor. I think the #2 and more so #4 Tracker are useless based on the overall design. I would never imagine using a knife like the tracker in an urban or desert environment. But spending weeks to months in wooded areas with the rucksacks we carried, a one tool option could be neat, more so when you dump your gear and go away from your base camp. Definitely not for everyone and more for an animal trapper or woodsman use. Condor/Imacasa makes some great stuff and sadly I don’t own any of their blades (great machetes), but in Central/South America they serve people well. Probably my most carried knife in the Infantry and as a Scout was an Air Force survival knife 499, that I even carried in Iraq over larger cooler looking combat knives. I do look forward to putting the Tracker to some use.

Rob Russon designed the Tracker in 1981 and gave it to Brown who stole the design as his own. The knife shown in the movie "The Hunted" is not a TOPS T1, it's a Dave Beck WSK Any questions that a person might have about how to use the design can be found on BCUSA- EDGED TOOLS- TRACKER ACTION PICS there are over 16k replies on the form of Trackers in use. Sharpening is not difficult and there are many videos "how to sharpen a tracker" Folks who dis the design are disingenuous, they just don't want to learn new skills.

Time Brown had a few companies make the Tracker, before TOPS. Today it’s a highly copied tool, that not a lot of people understand its use for trapping and as a multi tool. I do think TOPS made the best version for utility over the original design. Tom Brown has an interesting history. He probably did steal the design from the guys father.

@@CAVCOP TOPS heat treatment for 1095 is really good, I am just not fond of the steep angle of the grind. I own a T2 (convexed) and it's great. The best Tracker maker right now IMHO is Origin Knives out of the UK.
@CAVCOP10 күн бұрын
@@bushcraftcostarica808 I will have to check them out. I like the tip of the TOPS and Wire breaker/bender that I think most copies don’t have. I have a TOPS #1 and #4. I originally wanted the #3 as I felt the #1 might be too large. Got the #4 to mess with. Wish the lanyard hole on the #4 I have was bigger.

My tracker came dull as a butter knife contacted the company to get them to sharpen it they would not
@CAVCOP Жыл бұрын
Wow, Tops Knives would not sharpen it? Mine came sharp, as has all my Tops Knives. Sorry to hear about that. I stayed away from knockoffs for that reason.

@@CAVCOP mine is the real thing it was just disappointing that it wasnt as sharp as it should have been
@CAVCOP Жыл бұрын
@@robertleach230 I am surprised they would not sharpen it. I hope to get mine out to the field and test it this fall and winter. I might try to sharpen it on my workshop belt system if I can, but plan is once dulled to have the factory resharpen it. The quarter round is something I have not messed with before and it has an odd transition on the blade and angle.

I find that hard to believe. Anytime I've called them they just inform me on how much to send for return shipping and I send it in. No questions asked. You must've had a breakdown in communication somewhere.
