Tom Chambers remains the only eligible player with a 20,000 point NBA career who is not enshrined in the Basketball Hall of Fame. Becoming just the 20th NBA player ever to reach 20,000 back in 1995, Chambers was more than a volume scorer - he helped to evolve the way the game of basketball is played.
Chambers helped transform the Power Forward position into the modern “Stretch 4”. His ability to score in the low post, off the dribble, and shooting from the outside paved the way for today’s versatile Forward superstars such as Kevin Durant, Dirk Nowitzki, Giannis Antetokounmpo and others. Possessing extraordinary speed and leaping ability for his size, Chambers ran like a gazelle on the fast break, often finishing with high-flying acrobatic dunks - one of which is still recognized as among the greatest in-game dunks in NBA history.
Tom Chambers should be enshrined both for his outstanding career accomplishments and for his contribution to the evolution of the game. Frustratingly, there is little game footage available to make a truly comprehensive career retrospective, but I have endeavored over the years to collect what I can to put this mix together to help recognize and preserve Tom’s legacy.

Great upload. This video clip has way more stuff than I’ve ever seen and I’m always on the look out for Tom Chambers video clips or old classic games that he participated in. This thing even went back to high school and college. Very good testimonials from Marques Johnson, Bernard King, Kevin Johnson and Mark West who were great players in their own right, giving high praise for Tom-my favorite athlete ever. Bernard King would know a little about Tom’s offensive prowess being that his Washington Bullets surrendered 44 points to Tom in the Capital Center back in 1990-a record set for most points by an individual opponent in that building at that point in time. He’s always been a bit under appreciated and some things never change. Aside from his scoring skills, I took a strange joy in witnessing his occasional fire and brimstone outbursts with the referees and fellow opponents. You were (and still are) the man, Tommy Chambers!

Played against Tom in High School, he had 50 points in Championship game when Fairview won. Colorado during that time had The best High School talent in the Country several teams in Colorado preps had two 7 footers on one High School Team. Also Joe Barry Carroll top pick in The NBA plus LaVon Williams from Manuel was 1st team parade all american, Tom was The best of all and only got better. Scored over 20,000 points in his career while going to college all four years, at the time only 22 players in history had scored that many points. Long overdue for Hall of Fame make it right.

I have great memories of going to see the Utes with Chambers and Vranes with my Dad back in 1980-81. Tom is like other players of that generation who are all too often forgot about now by many fans, both old and mostly young. NBA archive footage is tougher to come by from decades past and the ground breaking things that Chambers and others did are more common place today. But before the internet, young players who later became superstars mimicked players like Dr J (Irving), George (Iceman) Gervin, David Thompson and yes TOM CHAMBERS! It's about bloody time to put Chambers into the The Hall of Fame.

Maybe even better is switching Worthy for Chambers on the 80s Showtime Lakers with their high-octane fast break offense which perfectly suited Chambers' game play style and strengths. Chambers' career development was stunted earlier on by playing for teams that did not run-and-gun. Only after moving on to Phoenix and teaming with Kevin Johnson did he become the superstar player that he was meant to be, but by that stage in his career he only had a few years remaining of peak form.

TC24 agreed he would’ve been a monster with Showtime although I think Showtime would not have been as good because LA would have been heavy on PF’s with Chambers, M.Thompson, B.Thompson, Green and Rambis. Worthy was able to play SF a bit better than Chambers who was more suited as a PF but still a great great player

Well Magic played with him in that 87 All Star Game and TC went off and won the MVP. Chambers was a better finisher than Worthy, Worthy just played with Magic and the Lakers. If Chambers would have been on the Lakers they would have probably won more titles in the late 80’s (Pistons) and early 90’s (Bulls). He is 38th all time on NBA scoring list. He was like 25th when he retired. Definitely a HOF’er

I have to admit this video changed my perspective on Tom's career (excellent as it was) a bit. I always felt Tom, Dominique Wilkins and Orlando Woolridge, good or great as each was, could've taken their game to the next level had they developed their passing more. Then perhaps, they could approach the Bird, Erving, Grant Hill, yes Scottie Pippen level. Or going back, John Havlicek, Rick Barry, Elgin Baylor, Billy Cunningham. High scoring stars who were excellent distributors as well. I felt that Tom, like Nique, had the ability to make (offensive) life easier for their less talented teammates. But that it was a part of the game they left more or less, unfulfilled. Nonetheless, he was an offensive force for years and was one to be reckoned with. Yes, he deserves a Hall call. More than some others who have been enshrined. I don't want to get into those who I feel do not deserve election here cause frankly, I get pissed. So ..... HOF voters, recognize Tom, too!

Hype video aside, he's a classic borderline HOF case. You could make a case either way about him going in. He had a very good career with flashes of greatness. Top 20 player of his era (prime years mid to late 1980s) but probably not quite Top 15 and DEFINITELY not Top 10. Athletic and versatile power forward, he also developed a nice outside game later in his career. The question with him was did he do enough or not and for long enough at that level. His scoring figures during his prime were somewhat inflated by the fast-paced, open court style of the 1980s game with shots going up quickly and often. A good rebounder but not a great one, a good defender but not a great one, etc. It would be nice to see him make it, though.

Chambers has 1987 NBA All-Star MVP and 4 NBA All-Stars. Honestly, Chambers is far less accomplished compered to those 2, that's it's much harder for him to get inducted. Sikma has 7 NBA All-Stars and 1 NBA ring, and while it took him years also, he was too hard to ignore unlike Chambers.

Put Chambers on the Celtics or the Lakers and they would never ever lose. It's a joke that Kevin McHale is in HOF and Chambers isn't. McHale was slower, had no driving ability, never passed, wasn't an outside shooter, and played good interior defense, but not away from the hoop. Chambers was a much better athlete, and he could do so much more.....but he didn't have Bird, Johnson, or Jabbar for teammates.

I don't watch it much now, but I always thought Tom was in the HOF from way back. What's going on here? He was FUN to watch! Think about a Larry Bird-like mind, but able to jump! Seriously, he could jump. High. I would like to have seen Bird vs. Chambers in a 1 on 1 series, 2 out of 3 when both were in their prime. I don't think Larry could stop Tom. I'm pretty sure Tom couldn't stop Larry, either. Never happen, but would have been cool.

I disagree with the bird like mind, bird was also an elite defender and passer cant really compare the 2

Certainly, Tom Chambers belongs in the Hall Of Fame, but It's harder to get there if you haven't won a championship. But I don't think thats Tom Chambers problem..... His problem is "the- people of the- media" was instructed to shun him out, if you will? Tom Chambers a victim of this "politically correct" B.S. There's a video highlight of Tom Chambers jumping over the 6'7" Michael Cooper(L.A. Laker), and successfully completing the slam dunk! You get to see the dunk over the 6'3" Mark Jackson, but they won't let you see the dunk over the 6'7" Michael Cooper......

When you see a very good player in the HOF named Chris Mullin and you compare him with TC ya gotta ask why is TC left out of the HOF? Now Mullin had a better shooting percentage but no rings. There are other players as well in the HOF whose career stats do not match Tom's. I think Tom sadly as a younger player came across as being moody and cold. He was the first unrestricted free agent in the NBA was he not? The Andy Messchermitt/Dave McNally of baseball type? The HOF should be about talent on the court. Chambers had it and did it well enough to be there.
