@@criticRN Kinda like Catholics are told to go to confession regularly to confess their “sins,” and they start it when kids are young in CCD classes (young elementary school age). I was 7 years old and telling the priest in the confessional both that I didn’t eat all my peas the night before like I was supposed to. Stuff like that, because dang, I was just a small kid - yet the priest will always ask what sins have you committed, so you feel pressured to tell them something. Priests don’t record your admissions though, like Scientologist “auditors” do. They don’t use your sins against you. Scientologists will make you admit your deepest secrets to hold it over member’s heads as blackmail.

As someone who's dad just disappeared for several years... It does effect you in ways you might not find out about til later in life. She'll have questions like why didn't he want to see her, was it her fault, how could he do that, etc... I still struggle trusting men. So yes, she will miss out on that relationship. Hopefully she gets help dealing with it.

If it is what it has been said... she got the jackpot. She would have a better and mainly an HEALTHIER life. Sometimes what looks worse is the best. Growing up with both biological parents I sometimes wondered what would be like to be without. Because it was not all wonderful. It was terrible sometimes. Unbearable. So my fantasy went to: "What if my parents would have been different? More like the good structured loving parents in some tv shows? What if all had been different"? I could see pros and cons. Still I would prefer to keep them than to see any of them out of my life. Although as a grownup I must say it would have been much wonderful and much easier and better is they had break up and gone their separate ways. Maybe then the respect and love lacking when together would show up if separate. So you see? Fantasy is part of our lives. We fantasize for a better version of our reality. Its silly, it's human. So my intention was... who is to say she is not better off? It seems to me it is always healthier to follow a path of tranquility, respect, liberty. If someone offers you something opposite - specially if that someone is your parent - you are lucky, very lucky in deed if someone would find the guts to pull you out.
