The Late Late Show with James Corden

2 жыл бұрын

James welcomes "Top Gun: Maverick" stars Tom Cruise and Monica Barbaro who recalls meeting Tom for the first time and how she forgot her name. And after James asks Tom how he managed to land a helicopter in London so the two of them could hang out, Tom reels off the litany of licenses he's earned. And Monica explains how Tom's flight instruction was far superior to any of the several driving instructors she had at the DMV.

So basically, Tom Cruise taught his crew to fly a jet for a pilot movie which deals with Tom Cruise teaching his crew how to fly a jet for a dangerous mission. Doesn't get more authentic than this.

100% Agreed! Saw it Sunday (opening weekend) and loved every single second of it! I'm SO glad that I didn't just wait for it to go to the "little" screen ...a.k.a. streaming platforms like Hulu & Netflix! So many scenes in the movie NEED a big screen and that SOUND! I actually physically _FELT_ this movie in IMAX with the audio they provide! I LOVED this beyond what I thought I would! And even teared up a little at some point, which I hate to admit, lol.

Never forget this man is part of a cult that extorts the weak minded and desperate and actively campaigns for them and recruits for them. A cult that a history of criminal activity. Not only that, but he is an unapologetic narcissist. Every movie he is in, he demands it be rewritten to give him more screen time, more dialog, to make him a bigger hero, etc. For example that terrible Mummy remake was such a dumpster fire because of changes he forced them to make. He is a good actor. Thats very true. But when he is acting like this good, benevolent person, that is all it is... Acting.

I like how in the movie the young ones keep calling him old. He wasn't afraid to age the character and tell a story about a man becoming the wise old man who accepts retirement and passes on his knowledge to the younger generation. It's very rare in Hollywood where they try to pretend age does not exist.
@angelbob77
@angelbob77 Жыл бұрын
The original Top Gun came out in 1986... Tom Cruise was probably 23 or 24 when he filmed it. He's almost 60 years old now. People who were 8 or 9 years old when the first Top Gun came out have been inspired by the movie, joined the Navy, graduated IRL Top Gun, become instructors, and have retired. So yes he is old lmao. Probably several generations, three wars, and six Presidents older than anyone that would still be serving today. The first movie came out before the Soviet Union and Berlin Wall fell and when Reagan was still in office. The premise that he's still a captain and he's still flying and kicking the ass of all these young guys is already ridiculous so why the hell would they pretend that he's still just as young as he was in the OG movie? He's probably two or three times the age of everyone he's teaching. It's the only logical course of action lol

He is THE MAN. And look how much time he spent talking about how wonderful Monica is and the rest of the cast. He really makes sure other people get credit and attention. So many people don't realize that he is licensed to fly ANY JET ANY AIRPLANE ANY HELICOPTER IN THE SKY, because he doesn't talk about it that much (except when asked). Even Vanity Fair magazine got it wrong (they said something about getting his pilot's license for his last movie...like dude, he's been a commercial jet pilot for 25 years!). He is THE MAN.

Tom Cruise is the last of the Hollywood superstars. So what if he’s not “the best actor”? He is the biggest movie star alive. He’s single handedly brought us back out to the movies. Thank you Val Kilmer.🙏 As someone who grew up watching the original, and slowly over the years gained much respect for the first movie, and who honestly never thought id see the day where we'd even get a sequel, given the amount of work and effort needed to pull something like this off, boy im glad we did. What an absolute sendoff for Pete "Maverick" Mitchell himself. Thank you, Tom Cruise for your work and dedication to making this movie the best possible experience. Man.. What a f*cking ride it was! At OCS, and also at flight school her bunkmate Natalie is the woman who was Obama's pilot. She was commissioned on Aug 11, 2001. Thirty days later the world changed. My kid washed out at Pensacola and never got her wings. She had an inner ear condition that kicked in at a certain g-force. She stayed in though (USMC). Did about 12 years. Today, she's a wife & mother, married to a great guy who she met in OCS. He's a Lt. Col now, on the list for a full bird Col shot and is hoping for a star. But yeah, I met a lot of female aviators, and the part of Phoenix really struck a chord. Not as boisterous as the lads; more quiet and laid back. But pretty much just as capable. The part Meg Ryan played in Courage Under Fire was well done too.

Somehow I managed to get Tom's attention for a brief moment and shook hands with him over the cordon. Dude is 59. Regardless of what anyone thinks of him, he's in incredible shape. He really takes care of himself, lives life to the fullest, you just sense the energy from him. And he's still doing interviews, travelling the world. A dying breed of a movie star for sure. And the biggest catch is that I feel that beneath the movie star smiling look, Cruise I think is much more serious, much more focused and IMO he more enjoys riding fast bikes, cars, flying planes, discussing technicalities, logistics, etc. than making movies or chatting on talk shows - I think he just happened to end up as a movie star. I wish one day he would be able to just drop the movie star act completely and just be himself and cool with it, because he's earned it.

He loves making movies. Miles Teller said that Tom would talk to him about movies and the industry for hours on the phone. It's his passion.

@@jadedjane6241 You obviously think PR is just real talk. These people exaggerate, often even make stuff up. When Tom Cruise was asked about his favorite movies in another interview, older one, he couldn't name one - and he just kinda dodged the question that he loves too many movies or all of them. That's a BS answer, especially for someone who supposedly is passionate about movies. Just total BS. He is a hustler, a smart guy and passionate overall, so he knows selling this passion will make people buy into him more. That's why he says it. But IMO deep down, he is way more passionate about other stuff.

@@jadedjane6241 "At least my argument is based on something." Yeah... on hearsay. Meanwhile, the commenter you're replying to has based his argument on all of Tom Cruise's actions. He also based his argument on the fact that Tom has so many licenses, and the fact that Tom likes to talk a lot about technicalities and logistics. How is that the same as "just a hunch"? Please don't ever get into a logical discussion again - you clearly aren't cut out for it.

After finding out that Tom Cruise is a scientologist. I will not go see any Tom Cruise movies or support anything that Tom Cruise does as long as hes a scientologist. People who support Tom Cruise and the movies He makes also support Scientology. People should watch Leah Remini's special on Scientology. Scientology is a big time cult.

Without knowing the premiere date, my wife and I booked the top suite at the W London. This was their best room and it overlooks a beautiful park. Unbeknownst to my wife and I the official premiere showing of Top Gun Maverick was occurring in that beautiful park. We’re just Americans with more money than sence, but it was cool knowing that we had the fanciest room in the swankiest hotel in all of London and the actors below us were staying somewhere less accommodating. Haha
