@MuffinP00 Thanks! Tom is seriously one of the best in the business when it comes to everything training. Obviously, everyone has their own training style, but Tom Dokken and Rick Smith are great places to start for advice and guidelines. I have actually had the pleasure of having Tom train myself and my newest pup for three days and I cannot even describe the improvement it made in our communication skills. I think my dog and I both understand each other more after our time with Tom.

@froglickable If you're confident your dog is solid in his commands, there is no reason to start from scratch. If he was not check cord/leash trained, it would be good to give him the commands a few times using this method, just to introduce him to the neck pressure. Also, have him wear the e-collar for a few days before you ever correct him, just to get him used to the collar. Then move forward with your e-collar as reinforcement for commands. For most dogs, this is a very smooth transition

@musicofnote1 We are certainly not saying that an e-collar is the only method of training your hunting dog. Every dog is different. Our goal here is to help people understand how to correctly use an e-collar training program. The training collar is for use in training your dog the command originally. The remote dog training collar should be used to reinforce commands your dog has already learned.

Do you find that style of training collar is better than a pinch style training collar? I’m working with an 11 week old black lab retriever pup and have used a pinch collar in the past. I’m always open to try new things. Just ordered a 425x today to replace an old SD-400!

No, you wouldn't correct the dog on the way back. You may nick on the way back if you choose (it's the same static correction, but doesn't cause discomfort as long as it's on the proper setting) or use tone/vibrate, which is what we usually do. If the dog is coming toward you, don't issue any correction. This is to stop him from getting distracted. If he hesitates of gets off course at all, issue a tap of some kind. Thanks!

Don't be ignorant and try to generalize all dogs based off your dog. Some of us have trained 100's of hard and soft dogs and we know that every dog is different. If the e-collar is used CORRECTLY, its not more of an aversive than a leash and nylon collar. It's no more than a tap on the shoulder to the dog when done correctly.

The dog should learn the authority of your VOICE first and foremost. The sequence should consist of: 1. "Come" 2. Dog ignores voice and keeps walking. 3. Trainer vocalises the words "Ah ah! Dog ignores voice. 3. Quickly shock after command was ignored. Dog runs back, (slowing walking backwards/squatting down) followed by praise. Preferable on a long lead. This concept will train the dog to respond to your commands.

IF YOU WANT YOU CAN START AS EARLY AS EIGHT WEEKS
@SportDOGBrand13 жыл бұрын
@crazed20000 Sorry we just saw this. The age really depends mostly on the dog, but we recommend about 6-8 months. We have seen people start as early as four with great success and some that need to wait as long as 12. Just make sure you are moving at your dog's pace and level of training. Patience and consistency are the most important aspect of training. Remember the e-collar is a reinforcement tool for learned commands. Hope this helps. If you have anymore questions, just let us know!

what if your do already knows these commands but has not had an e collar. should you start back from scratch and add the e collar in?

Tom Dokken is a master. You use the E-collar to reinforce known commands, not teach them. I was first exposed to this theory by Jim Kappes, and Dave Rorem.

Thanks for the video! Is this still the most relevant way to teach a dog to come using the e-collar?
@SportDOGBrand2 жыл бұрын
Great question, Matt! We can confirm that this training series by Tom Dokken is still our recommended guide for teaching basic commands.

does that e collard help with the barking
@SportDOGBrand5 жыл бұрын
Hey Sebastian. This e-collar is more for reinforcing commands/polishing. While it could be used to deter barking, it would be a manual process. We do make collars specifically for barking. They deliver an automatic correction when your dog barks which creates consistent training, whether you are paying attention or not, allowing your dog to learn quicker. Call our Customer Care at 1-800-275-6797 if you'd like more info, and you can check out the features of our NoBark SBC-R here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ataTn72lvru8mqs.html

@SportDOGBrand - "The remote dog training collar should be used to reinforce commands your dog has already learned. " Excuse me, your dog may have been introduced to the command, but why use aversives to reinforce? Why reinforce the positive for the successful, making the success more attractive than the failure?
