I both start and shut down this engine on regular gasoline, mostly for safety reasons . . . considering it runs on 95% nitromethane. Also the gasoline does leave a residual amount of oil in the upper cylinders preventing any potential seizure the next time it's started.

Gasoline. Nitro is so caustic and generates such a hot fire in the cylinders that there's virtually no upper cylinder lubricant left. Gasoline has a small amount of oil in it so it's used to replace that residual lube in shutting down the engine.

@stevenandersen3525 Жыл бұрын
That might be due to these differences: the new top fuel cars have more that 100 additional cubic inches, a supercharger with more than double the capacity, two magnetos producing nearly 100 amps v/s the mag on this car that makes about 3 amps . . . and many other issues. This car makes about 2,800 hp running on 90% nitromethane by comparison to 11,000 generated by the new versions. This video was shot over 6 years ago. Since then there have been many new changes made to the motor. If you want to see it more currently, look for the video shot 3 years ago in the lineup on the right side of your screen titled: Alcohol to NITROMETHANE
