Answering some of your questions: 1. The point of the tournament is establishing magical cooperation between the witzarding communities of different countries. For a participant, there is glory and also 1000 galleon prize money. 2. Krum is a professional quidditch player but he is also still in school, I believe in his final year. Quiddich World Cup was not a school championship, it was a professional global quidditch match. 3. There is indeed gambling in Harry Potter, both at theTriwizard Tournament and The Quiddich World Cup. At the latter, even Mr. Weasley participated, and also Fred and George. 4. Fake Moody bewitched Krum to make him take out Harry's opponents from the running so that Harry would for sure get to the Cup first. Therefore, Krum didn't hurt Harry when he saw him. 5. Voldy can touch Harry now because he used Harry's blood to remake his own body. From what I understand, Lilly's sacrifice magic is in Harry's blood, so by taking some of his blood for himself Voldy can now overcome this protective magic and therefore touch or even kill Harry.

The ritual to restore Voldemort, and seeing him rise out of the cauldron will always simultaneously send shivers racing up AND down my spine and make me nauseous. Trivia: They got the movie appearance of Voldemort almost identical to the book. There is one missing detail: in the book, Voldemort is described as having blood-red eyes with a slit-like pupil. The creature that the imposter Mad-Eye Moody was demonstrating The 3 Unforgivable Curses on was an arachnid called a whip scorpion. As someone who was sorted into Hufflepuff on The Wizarding World website, Cedric Diggory's death hit hard. Especially seeing Amos run onto the quidditch pitch and hearing him shout "That's my son!! That's my boy!!" Backstory: Neville was traumatized by the Cruciatus Curse's usage, because his parents were tortured into insanity with it.

This is the obligatory “they did Ron dirty again” comment! The drama makes more sense in the book. Ron isn’t nearly as childish as the movie, and Harry is more childish about it in the book. The scene with Hermione passing on a message is a movie exclusive.

They actually cut a LOT of that mark in the sky at that quidditch cup from the book (amongst many, many things), there's a LOT going on there. And to answer your question, the mark itself does nothing but when you saw it, say coming back from work, that usually meant that whoever was there is DEAD. Very dead. Or worse. They also cut a lot of mystery about the dr. who guy who made the mark appear, the movie doesn't tell, but he actually used HARRY's wand, and it's a pretty huge deal because they figured out it was Harry's wand that casted it.

Cedric really was an exceptional young wizard. Fleur had Madame Maxime closely mentoring her and manipulating her chances, Krum had Karkaroff doing much the same, Harry had Barty Crouch Jr clearly fixing everything in his favour (all three of these student were also exceptional too) BUT Cedric didn’t have that. Harry helped give him a heads up about dragons but he had to figure out how to deal with that alone. Cedric figured out the egg because Barty/Moody gave him a hint (only so Harry would get the same hint too), but Cedric figured out how to survive underwater alone. He handled the maze pretty bloody well alone for a long time, even with an Imperius-ed Krum after him. Barty-as-Moody even mentioned Cedric is very skilled in his first chat with Harry after the ferret fiasco. It was well established that Cedric was on his way to being a greatly skilled wizard, well-liked and respected for his personality too.

Hey, here again. 1. The house where Voldemort and Wormtail are hiding at the beginning is actually the Riddle House, where 50 years before Voldemort murdered his muggle father, Tom Riddle Sr. and his two muggle grandparents. They were found dead in their dinner clothes with expressions of terror on their faces and the caretaker actually was blamed at first, but he was let off the hook. 2. There was actually a LOT of gambling in this book. They cut the character from the film, but in the book there was a slightly shady wizard called Ludo Bagman, who was head of Magical Games and Sports and who had a serious gambling problem and owed some goblins thousands in gold. 3. Cornelius Fudge is Minister of Magic, so basically the president of the UK wizarding community. 4. Just to clarify, Beauxbatons is not an all-girls school and Durmstrang is not an all-boys school. That was just a strange thing choice for the film. 5. Dumbledore brought back the Tri-Wizard Tournament to basically unify international wizards, but it didn't go so well because of Voldemort. 6. The reporter Rita Skeeter was even WORSE in the books. She started to write all sorts of slanderous pieces against the main characters and really hit Harry's public reputations, writing in the newspaper that Harry was deranged and delusional. 7. The merfolk under the lake are actually Hogwarts allies. They were putting on a show for the task, playing the antagonists. 8. The octopus creatures that attack Harry were Grindylows, or water demons. 9. Barty Crouch Jr. did worse than kill Neville's parents, he and three other Death Eaters tortured them to insanity and they are now permanently hospitalized, barely able to recognize their own son. 10. The Crabbe and Goyle at the cemetery were the fathers of Draco's two school cronies. 11. When Harry's and Voldemort's wands connected, because the wands share twin cores of phoenix feathers from Dumbledore's pet Faux, they started a process called Priori Incantatum, where they wands regurgitate the spells they've performed backwards, so shades of Voldemort's victims were coming out of his wand.

I couldnt help smile when you said about the gambling at the World Cup. In the books there is another character whos name escapes me and he used to be a well known Quidittch player. At the WC he is running a secret gambling book and the twins bet perfectly on the irish winning but Victor catching the snitch ( in the book the Irish were winning by such a margin the Bulgarians save face by catching the snitch and ending the game). Unfortunatly when the twins collect their winnings they are paid in Leprichuan gold or fools gold which turns to base metal. Harry won a huge money prize for winning the Triwizard Cup and gives it to the twins as he doesn't need it he is rich enough.

Movie only people had it easier. The tongue thing made it too easy to figure out. The book gave us no clue that Crouch Jr was disguised as Moody because everyone thought he died in Azkaban. He was ill, his mother was dying so she begged Crouch Sr to switch them using Polyjuice Potion during their "last" visit. Since dementors can't see they inly sensed one dying person and one healthy person entering and leaving. Auror is more like a cop than a bounty hunter. Ron's inferiority complex really reared it's ugly head at the beginning. Luckily it didn't last long...until Ron suddenly realized that one of his besties is actually a girl. One that other guys are interested in. He still doesn't realize why he's jealous over Hermione though. The dragon doesn't break loose in the book. That was just gratuitous action in the movie that wasn't needed. Snape was a Death Eater for quite awhile before he turned against Voldemort and became a spy. Dumbledore said that in the memory. I miss the creatures and other obstacles they had to get past in the maze. Harry sent up red sparks so the watchers would come save Fleur.

Hi Cole, I hope you're enjoying your vacation! Great reaction as always. This is one of those movies in the series that leaves out a lot from the books, but it's still pretty decent. A few clarifying notes for you as usual! No, that isn't the same snake Harry let out of the zoo. That's Voldemort’s familiar, Nagini. There's lots of professional Quidditch teams. They have their own professional national leagues as well as international. In the books, Ron supports a team called that Chudley Cannons and they're really bad lol Yes, the Minister for Magic in the UK is the wizarding world equivalent to the muggle Prime Minister. The Dark Mark is usually cast by one of the death eaters over the scene of one of their murders. It invokes panic and fear amongst the wizards as it's Voldemort’s mark. Death eaters have the same mark burned into their forearm like a tattoo, which they can use to summon Voldemort by pressing on it, and he them by pressing on one of his followers' marks. Aurors aren't really bounty hunters as such. They're like top class law enforcement in the wizarding world. Think US Marshals. The Triwizard Tournament is a special tournament that takes place between 3 magical schools. The winner receives 1000 galleons (which is a lot of money) and eternal glory for themselves and their school due to the extremely dangerous nature and difficulty of the tasks. They also win the Triwizard cup for the school. The tournament. It used to take place every five years and dates back around 700 years but was discontinued during the 18th century due to the high death toll. The first time it's restarted is when Harry gets chosen and it has increased safety precautions and restrictions. Hence the minimum age requirement being raised to 17. Yes it's like the wizarding Olympics for schools. Nice analogy. The reason why Neville is so affected by seeing the cruciatus curse is because his parents were tortured into madness with it (death eaters were responsible). They're now hospitalised permanently and hardly recognise anyone, even their own son. They're almost dementia-like. That's why Neville lives with his grandmother. The stained glass window he was staring at was meant to represent his mother but the movie doesn't explain any of it very well. Also the death eater impersonating Moody (Barty Crouch Jr) would know all about Neville’s parents as he was involved in their torture. So that makes the demonstration he did in front of Neville even more messed up. Yes, Viktor Krum is also the Bulgarian Seeker despite still being at school. It was a professional tournament. He's just the best seeker in the world, even though he's still very young. Naturally talented. It is a really big deal to be a champion because the risks are so high and Harry's name just appearing as fourth champion when there's only 3 schools competing is obviously sus. Dumbledore was more afraid than angry. He knows someone is out to get Harry and it doesn't take a lot to work out who. However in the book, the line is; “Harry, did you put your name in the Goblet of Fire?” Dumbledore asked calmly.’ It's a major source of amusement amongst the fandom that the book and movie delivered the line so differently. There's full on memes about it. Yes, Dumbledore pulled a memory out of his mind and placed it into a bowl called a pensieve. It allows one (or others) to relive their thoughts and memories as though they're actually there. Remember this, it's important later. Ron's a teenage boy that's always been overshadowed by his five older brothers and then his famous best friend. He's just suffering from a bit of sidekick syndrome but he doesn't mean it really. Any damage is really easy to fix with a simple spell. (Reparo) haha So no, no one is worried about it. Also, Triwizard champions stand alone according to the rules. No one is allowed to step in and rescue unless a contestant withdraws during the task. Damn, I can't believe you figured out Moody was being impersonated so quickly! Colour me impressed! The maze is SO much better in the book than the movie. There's a full on sphinx asking riddles in there! Krum was under the imperius curse by imposter Moody to clear out Harry's competition but not attack Harry himself. The reason why Voldemort can touch Harry now is because he used Harry's blood to resurrect himself. Lily Potter's protection (that came from her sacrifice) now applies to Voldemort too. Remember that, it's also important later. Harry and Voldemort's wands share a phoenix feather core from the same bird. Their wands are brothers and recognise each other. When Harry and Voldemort's wands/spells met, Harry's wand forced Voldemort's to regurgitate its last spells in an event called Priori Incantatum (Prior incantation basically). The last spells were the killing of Cedric, the muggle caretaker and Lily and James Potter. That's why Harry sees his parents and Cedric. It's like a remnant of their memory lingered in the wand and Harry forced them out. Harry has to go to the Dursleys every summer. In fact, it's very important he does so. More on that later on. Snape wasn't an undercover death eater. He was an actual death eater but later switched sides according to Dumbledore. I'm really glad you enjoyed this one! You'll certainly love the book a lot better though! The next one is one of those rare instances for me where I think the movie is better than the book. The 5th book was written during Rowling's writer's block stage and under immense pressure from her publisher and it shows for it. There's a lot of deadwood in it that the movie cuts out. They had to cut so many side plots from the books, and even a plot twist, like Hermione vs the journalist skeeter, Hermione founding an organization to free house elves, the female house elf wink and dobby, the Weasley twins vs the minister of games and sports. Fun fact: the money prize that harry potter won in the tournament was given to the twins so they could start their own business. This info is never revealed in the films. Also, the part where death eaters appear at the world cup was the hardest chapter for jk Rowling to write in the entire series. It wont make sense here because they had to simplify for the film, but it was the set up for a twist and something that would reverberate throughout the series. She said she had to rewrite that chapter way too many times.

This was my favourite of all the books. I really liked all the little side plots in it, and the movie did a lot of it, which made me happy. I am glad you're watching these, Cole.

IMPORTANT removals from the movie: Cedric used a Transfiguration spell to change a rock into a dog to distract the dragon. He was partially successful; the dragon took the bait, and Cedric went for the Golden egg. Halfway through, the dragon turned its attention back to Cedric, and burned his face. Cedric retrieved the egg, however, and passed the task. Second was Fleur Delacour, who faced a Common Welsh Green. She enchanted the dragon to sleep, but while retrieving the golden egg, the dragon snored and let out a jet of flame that set her skirt alight. She extinguished the flames, and retrieved her egg. Viktor Krum was third, facing a Chinese Fireball. He used the Conjunctivitis Curse to blind the dragon and retrieve his egg. However, he was docked points when the dragon stumbled around and smashed half of the real eggs. Harry Potter drew the fiercest of them all, the Hungarian Horntail. On the advice of Crouch Jr. (disguised as Professor Moody), he used a Summoning Charm to bring his Firebolt broomstick to him, and manoeuvred past the dragon to retrieve his egg. After the First Task, Harry and Viktor were tied for first place, with Cedric in second, and Fleur in third. The champions were told that, the Golden egg they retrieved contained a clue on how to pass the Second Task. Without it, they had little chance of succeeding. I hope you watch the extended edition for the final films ahead. (Especially the last one part one and two which has some stuff that puts some things into full circle.)

It was done SO much better in the book: First of all, Barry Couch Jr. did NOT have that “tongue thing”, as Mushu would say 😅!! So the twist was MUCH better done in the book. And secondly, you got A LOT more background on Barty Couch Jr. The director spend WAY TOO much time on the dragon ‘cause he “loved” dragons to fit the whole storyline. Also, with the dragon, SHE did NOT escape the arena in the book, either. Dumbledore would have NEVER let that happen. Also, the other schools were NOT boys-only & girls-only schools, either; that was just a movie thing. I have NO idea why the director made THAT decision!! Oh, wait, I know why!! ‘Cause he NEVER bothered to read the whole book!! NOT kidding here!! He said in an interview that the book was “too darn long to finish”!! Wish I was kidding here, but I’m not . . . 😡 Because of this, A LOT of things got left out. A lot of important things, I think . . . I just think this one is the WORST one, movie-wise, I mean . . . Just my (& many other book fans) opinion(s)! Oh, & the maze was COMPLETELY different in the book, too!

The maze affects your mind, so that becomes really evident when Harry almost considers running to the Cup and leaving Cedric to the plants (not 100% sure if the maze was meant to attack the contestants this way, or if it was Moody's doing). Harry doesn't truly want glory and fame, so to see him stare at the Cup that way is really indicative of the maze's impact.

Wow you're already halfway through the franchise and I see you're enjoying it. Voldemort from Years 4 to 7 is best look of him and he's not afraid to kill a child.

Ok while this is in my bottom half of movies its by far my fav book so to start the lore drop. The beginning of the movie actually starts at the dursleys where harry is waiting for the weaslys to pick him up for the tournament but he didnt know they were gonna use flo powder and come out the fireplace and the dursleys fireplace was covered up so they blew a whole in the wall after repairing it before eleaving fred drop a candy that turns dudleys tongue purple and 3 ft long after this we get what the movie shows until the match where the twins bet a ministry official how the quidditch world cup would go and they were 100% right so the guy paid them in leprechan gold which disappears so he finnessed them and they chase him around the entire rest of the book cuz he owe them alot. When the death eaters( wizard KKK) attack eveything goes according to the movie but what the movie leaves out is fake moody was there and he used harry wand to cast the dark mark which scared the other death eaters cuz they was just being racist and they knew they didnt do it and only a death eater or voldemort kno the spell. This where barty crouch jr story come in he was in azkaban as we saw in the flashback but his mother was dying and as a dying wish begged th father to switch her place with the son so he could be free which they did and she died in prison while the father had his house elf keep fake moody locked up in they house for yrs but the death eaters attack let him escape and find wormtail and voldemort where they hatched the plan to do everything. They took Dobby out the entire movie which is bullshit but I digress they kinda ruined the tournament harry got the egg in seconds no that long drawn out fight and the maze had giant spiders one of which broke harrys leg so that whole voldemort fight was on a broken leg and the maze had a sphinx he had to outsmart after that everything accurate until theyre leaving since harry technically won the tournament they gave him 10,000 galleons but he ain want it so he gave it to the twins so they could start mass producing the candies and joke stuff they were shown to have made throughout the book.

So I actually prefer the book weigh a little bit better for the beginning because, Harry gets a letter from Ron stating about the world quidditch cup and invites him. His uncle doesn't like it at first but then he goes fine I'm going to go up and finish my letter to my godfather. At the end of book 3 he informed them that his Godfather was a convicted murderer the one that was on tv. So he grudgingly allows him to do it when the Weasleys come to pick him up Fred and George deliberately dropped some of their candy so Dudley will pick it up eat it and his tongue starts to swell it's a very funny moment of them getting back at the dursleys for Harry. It's a great scene from the book

That's the one thing I didn't like about the movie is Dumbledore raising his voice like he did towards harry, where in the book he went up to Harry and asked him in a calm voice did you put your name in The Goblet. The only time we ever see Dumbledore in the books raise his voice or show any sign of violence is when the students are threatened especially Harry he's very protective of them. So he never would have grabbed Harry like that or spoke to him in that way in the book

Percy follows the trend to get some of the highest scores at Hogwarts. Fred and George are beloved by most people. At this point, anything Ron does has already been done by his older brothers. He can't expect much in terms of rewards since his whole family is struggling with money. Even Ginny is growing popular at this point. 42:15 The maze affects your mind, so that becomes really evident when Harry almost considers running to the Cup and leaving Cedric to the plants (not 100% sure if the maze was meant to attack the contestants this way, or if it was Moody's doing). Harry doesn't truly want glory and fame, so to see him stare at the Cup that way is really indicative of the maze's impact.

in the book dumbledore ask the ? did you put your name in the goblet - "CLAMLY!!!!" also in the book the dragon never left the stage Yep That was David Tennant playing The Evil Barty Crouch Jr. (David Tennant now very famous for playing 10th and the 14th doctor in dr who) Evil Barty Crouch Jr and 2 other death eaters used the Cruciatus Curse on neville longbottom parents - they are not dead they where driven to insane by the curse and is now in a magic hospital.

This is Not a spoiler. In the book "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire", Dumbledore explained to Harry that Priori Incantatem is what happened when their two wands with matching wand core connected. If you recall from the very first movie, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone or Philosopher's Stone when Harry got his wand Mr. Olivander said that the phoenix feather in Harry's wand had a matching feather in another wand that came from the same exact phoenix. The person that has the other feather in his wand is Voldemort. Harry found out in the book version of Goblet of Fire that the phoenix was Dumbledore's bird, Fawks. Because Harry and Voldemort has matching wand cores it means the wands are equal in power and relation. The wands really are brothers. As Harry's wand began to slowly beat Voldemort's wand it caused the Piori Incantatem spell to happen. That means the last few spells that a wand made reveals itself. So in this case not only did the last few murders that Voldemort's wand made expose itself to everyone in the graveyard, in the book version it also showed Wormtail's new silvery hand first as well. 🪄💥⚡️🪄
